I've seen people use the front side trecking poles in different lengths, so that the rain water just automatically drains out of one side and awning doesn't start sacking.

When it rains I add a longer or taller center pole to the awning and the rain just runs off. I love sitting in my camp chair during rain and snow conditions. After the rain or snow I'll remove the center pole. For additional wind protection I'll use the cheap 5X7 blue tarp in the tiny stuff sack from Walmart and place it on the side or front depending on the wind direction. Try the Thermarest foam pillow. It beats all inflatable pillows and I've tried most of them, too. Another thing I do is place a sheet of tyvek beneath the tent floor for protection; nothing has ever punctured the tyvek. Washing the tyvek a couple times in our washing machine and drying it on low heat has taken all of the crinkly noise out of it and makes it very easy to roll rather having to fold it. Somehow it even feels lighter. It adds another sheet of insulation beneath you as well. After initially setting it up in my backyard I realized it needed five more stakes so an additional set of MSR Groundhogs were added, surprisingly adding very little weight to the kit. I am working on making it a four season tent by adding a custom made liner. I have four other tents but this is my favorite due to the awning as I like to leave it up and not close it. I do most of my cooking, reading and just enjoy sitting underneath it. If you're into stealth camping like I am, especially now that so many people are getting out into the woods due to the pandemic, I bring along a Ginsco 6.5X10 camouflage netting and cover my tent after trekking deeper into the woods or higher up a mountain slope.

I think a ridgeline is much faster. Just my personal preference. Instead of running your toggle in the ridgeline, use a prusik loop on each end of the tent. Much easier to get it taught and keep it that way. Great tent and great review👍

So do deal with rain pooling on the awning use a shorter pole in one of the corners. It will provide a slope for the water to flow off. It will affect the head room a little bit but can always be adjusted again when the rain stops.

Great video, I think thats a good plan to use the trekking poles for the awning as they can be adjusted where the tent poles cannot be changed. About your pillow , have you tried that non slip mesh they use for putting under rugs on a slippy floor, I had some issues and it seemed to work ! Take care mate

New subscriber here....Great review but there is one thing I'm curious about. If you had lowered the two trekking poles so the canopy slopped down (if the rain was coming from the back.) would the rain shed off good. I ask because I would want to be able to have the canopy up all the time during heavy rain.

Hi Johnny Riddle, Thanks for the sub. I think I know what you are asking but please correct me if I am not answering correctly. When we had the hard rain. Both my son and I lowered only one side of the canopy by removing the pole and zipping up. The wind was to the back side of the tent so we both stayed dry even though one side of the canopy was up. The water shed to the back of the tent as well as down the lowered side of canopy. Worked great and had good air flow in tent. Was able to look outside and watch the hard rain all night long.

Excellent input John. I bet it would be a lot easier to balance out the 4 corners using bungees. I prefer the two trees but always take me additional time to get the line up correct. Your solution would fix that. Will give it a try. Thanks

@@DansEverythingOutdoors i use bungees all the time to setup bashas so it was habbit to use them with this, but prefer bungees that have carabiners at the end rather than hooks so no chance springing off.

@@DansEverythingOutdoors This tent is a unique concept. A tent with a tarp porch. And it's not very heavy. A small vent near the ridge line would take care of most of the condensation problem. Otherwise I have replaced three of my other tents with this one for kayak camping.

I recently bought one of these off of amazon... I tested it out in my yard on a rainy night and it basically was a swimming pool in the morning. This seems to be a common issue with this tent. It leaked like crazy in the 2 back corners. Too bad, because I love the design but I had to return it.

Hi Juan, I have not seen an issue with condensation. I make sure the back side is pulled out to allow air flow. I also usually sleep with one of the front sides up or cracked open to increase the air flow. I have seen some condensation when closed up all the way. I also did have condensation in the winter when the deep snow blocked the back airway off. It is to be expected with any tent that does not use a top screen with a rain fly. Just got to keep some air movement.

Thanks Baker Baker. I do like the tent. Just the right size for one person. Small enough to pack and big enough for a basic tent. I think the stove is listed in the description but that was the Redcamp wood burning stove. I have several solos and bushbox ones but tend to use this one the most. I want to buy this tent for use in all seasons and i want to rely heavily on this tent when i hike and camp in most states. Do you think this would be a good tent for winter camping? Ive heard nothing but good things to say about this tent and you reply back to viewers so i thought i would ask you.

Hi Preston, I have read that this is a 3 season tent. Spring, Summer and Fall. I think the reason it is not stated as a winter tent is that it is single walled and if not properly ventilated will cause condensation on the inside which will freeze. I have used it in temps down in the 20s and I thought it did fine as long as I kept vents open to circulate the air. That does make it a little cooler inside but that is what a good sleeping bag is for and I like my face cool at night when I sleep.

Been considering the Backwoods Bungalow for a while, but realize now it wouldn't work for me. I want an awning that can be left up overnight in the rain independent of a door. Bailing water off an awning every 5 minutes is not acceptable. I'd still need to rig a tarp. Thanks for the comprehensive review.

You're welcome uguysmuts and you are correct. I just did a video where I used it in the remnants of hurricane. Held up good. I raised the canopy up a little further on one side and had no problem with pooling. Can also lower one side at night and prevent pooling. I used a separate tarp when I want to close all the way up but still have a cover to get underneath.

Hi David, It is the Brila Mini Lantern amzn.to/3nirtvV I really like the lantern and it has several levels of brightness and alternate Red. The big fail of this lantern is that the Red light only blinks or blinks SOS but there is no constant Red. If they fixed that then it would be my best pick.

Still loving the tent. Has a small drip from the top seem as shown in one of my videos. I just need to seal it sometime. not bad enough to be urgent. Very little amount of water. I too mostly hammock camp
