I think they're saying you need to forgive yourself in the sense that you need to be able to let go of the guilt if you truly want to experience the joy God offers in His forgiveness. If you're not "forgiving yourself" then you're not "putting the past behind you" and living in God's freedom.

I understand grace is a bless, yet, before forgiveness there should be a REPENT process. To put back and compensate the damage part. Bible teach us a lesson with Zaccheus when he return 4 times the money those he charged. that is why the Messhiah stated that salvation has come to his house. There was repent. In the bible saids forgive as lons as the person repent.
