Taemin is playing the piano and Onew is singing :) Yes, he is singing in Japanese. SHINee members are fluent in Japanese and have many Japanese albums. He is crying because he had a vocal cord surgery and couldn't even speak for few weeks. This was the first concert after the operation and he was relieved that his voice is working. Also, Minho will have the main role in the Netflix drama The Fabulous together with Chae Soo Bin.

Onew had a surgery prior to the concert and there was a risk he wouldn't be able to sing again after the operation. This performance was his first solo stage (though Taemin was there as well in the piano) after the suegery so it was really special. Also based from what I've read before, the original singer of this song also had the same condition as Onew's, unfortunately for him he wasn't able to sing again.

that is not true about the original singer, he didn't lost his voice, he has released albums after that, he released one in 2021

@@universe986 If I remember correctly, he could not sing for a long time and underwent an operation again, after which he returned to singing, but did not regain the voice he had before.

@@bea_hae_tae9392 That is incorrect too. He was singing his surgery was many years later and he even had heart surgery in 2016 or so but that has been a myth some of Shinee fans keep spreading. Hideaki Tokunaga had a brain condition that prevented him from doing anything even singing in 2001 to 2002 he got physical therapy he went back to singing. He has moyamoya disease. Search it online.

The reason why the audience screams so loud and Onew cries during this performance of "Rainy Blue" is because this was Onew's first solo performance since having vocal cord surgery. It was a really scary surgery because there was no guarantee that he would ever be able to sing again, let along at the same quality as he did before the surgery. Onew spent about 3 months after his surgery not being able to speak at all in order to give his vocal cords time to heal, and then he had to learn to sing all over again. This performance was proof to himself and fans that he could still do it and that nothing had changed. Onew chose to do a cover of this song as his first solo after the surgery because the song is connected to everything he had to go through and it is really meaningful. As I understand it, the original Japanese singer had the same surgery as Onew, and he was never able to sing as well again. As I have heard Onew explain, "Rainy Blue" was so meaningful to him at this time because the song is about how the original singer had to give up something that was so precious to him, etc. The song is kind of saying how the world around him kept moving forward while time stood still for him during his recovery because of how hard it was to deal with the fact that he might not be able to keep singing. For the original singer, he kept chasing the happiness of singing but sadly his voice was never the same. Luckily Onew's surgery had a much better outcome than the original singer and it seems to not have had much of an affect on his voice. Thank goodness, because the world would be a much sadder place if we could no longer hear Onew's beautiful voice. :D Onew is a member of SHINee, so of course he is an amazing singer and performer. That's why the members of SHINee are some of the most well respected singers and artists, and why they are one of the top groups in the industry. SHINee are the golden standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard, and it's what all other groups strive to reach. Fun fact: This performance of "Rainy Blue" is from SHINee's SHINee World Concert 2014 in Japan, which was held at the Tokyo Dome. The Tokyo Dome is the same venue where you saw Onew perform "Nessun Dorma" (2 years after this), so there is 55,000 people in that audience. As you are starting to discover, SHINee are one of the most famous artists in Japan and they are even more famous than a lot of Japanese artists -- most Japanese people don't even consider SHINee foreign artists. SHINee debuted in Japan in 2011 and all of the members are fluent in Japanese. SHINee spends about 50% of their career in Japan and for every Korean album they have a Japanese album. Onew is in the k drama descendants of the sun. It's currently on Netflix. Taemin did final life which is on Amazon prime as a subscription offer but videos of it are in KZbin. Thanks for the reaction to this mv.
