On this same episode onew tried to start this song and started to cry so they had to stop it. Jonghyun wrote this song about the moon being so far away. It was hard on onew to perform this song and everyone there knew this. Thank you so much for this reaction. Another song that was hard for shinee to sing was dear name on IU's program. It was soooooo beautiful you should check it out.

During the show right before they started Onew said I feel like I want to cry and he was about to so he asked for water and got off and went to get the water himself. He cameback and did this... he then said being on the brink of crying really helped me so everyone laughed except for Dong Wook the guy leaning on the wall he cried there...

Selene aka The Moon, 6.23 was the date of the Supermoon that happened back 2013 (?). SHINee’s Jonghyun got inspired by it and wrote a song about the Moon and how it’s like so near yet so far (and cant be reached). Really a beautiful song. It’s a SHINee Song and the FIVE members sing it sooo beautifully.

And the story of that song also evolved that international shawols talked about them Shinee being our moon because we don't get to see them often or participate in the fan meets..and Jonghyun said something about we still share the same moon despite being far apart from each other (?) Taemin(?) said they'd think of international shawols too when they sing it (tumblr translation from way back when). However after Dec17 the song became our dedication to Jonghyun, he was our moon, our pearl aqua moon. It's always been an emotional Jjong tribute song for them and us shinee fans Shawols.

Just an added layer~ He actually tried to explain during the show that he wasn't crying because of Jonghyun and so I want to get that across here~

"Selene 6.23 " is another one of the dozens of songs that was written by Jonghyun and it has now become a song that the members often sing as a tribute to him. That is why Onew became so emotional, and why you saw everyone tearing up. It's songs like this that demonstrates just how good Jonghyun was as a songwriter and why SHINee are some of the best in the industry when it comes to vocals. :D (You really need to hear a live concert version of the song with all 5 of the SHINee members singing the song.) Sunwoo Junga sings a lot of Jonghyun's lines in this performance, which makes it even more heart-wrenching if you know what the original version sounds like. Onew did tear up during this performance. Even before he started the song he had to take a minute to compose himself, but as he said, he actually sings even better when he is emotional. If you watch SHINee's SHINee World Concert 2018 - Best from Now On concert that they held only 2 months after Jonghyun's death, you will understand what I mean. Both the SHINee members and audience cried throughout the whole concert, but they still all sounded magnificent and their vocal quality wasn't even affected. And if you knew Jonghyun, you would know he had a very soft heart and would often cry in concerts, but he could always deliver his lines in a song, even while sobbing, and he still sounded flawless. That's why SHINee are on such another level, they are experts at what they do and that's why they are so highly respected by everyone. As others may have mentioned, Selene means moon in Greek and 6.23 (2013) was when we had a supermoon, which means the moon was really close to the Earth that day, making it appear extra big and bright. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you see the song has a lot of deep meaning. Jonghyun really loved the moon. He saw a lot of beauty and symbolism in the moon and often talking about the moon in interviews and conversations. Jonghyun said he wrote the song thinking about how the distance between the Moon and Earth was similar to the distance between SHINee and their fans all over the world. The alternate title of the song is "The Distance Between Us," which has now taken on even more meaning since his passing. (We know interpret the lyrics to be talking about the distance between us here on Earth and Jonghyun in Heaven.) It was even said that the moon turned a pearl aqua color -- SHINee's fan color -- the day of Jonghyun's funeral. And fans took comfort in the fact that this meant that his spirit had made it to Heaven and that he was now at peace. Thank you for appreciating Jonghyun's work and for loving Onew. The way to honor Jonghyun's memory is to watch him in everything he did throughout his career and to react to his music and listen to his songs, and to appreciate tributes like this one, etc. So, go ahead and react to as much SHINee content, and even Jonghyun's solo work, as you can. It's OK if it makes us a little emotional sometimes, but the way to get to know him and SHINee better is to really spend some time getting to know them as the amazing performers that they are. All Jonghyun ever wanted was to make people happy through his work and to influence the world with his songs and lyrics. So, honor him by discovering what an amazing person he was and seeing exactly what he wanted people to remember him for. Yes, it's sad sometimes, but it doesn't necessarily always have to be that way if you just appreciate his work for what it is and live in the moment. His final words to the world were "Tell me I did Well." And that is what we fans try to do. By continuing to watch and listen to Jonghyun's and SHINee's music, and appreciating the hundreds of clips of him we are lucky enough to have with SHINee as a group of 5, we are showing Jonghyun that, yes indeed, you did well and your life will forever be meaningful to thousands of people. You will never be forgotten Jonghyun, you did well.

Thank goodness for you Milinda Wilson our Shawol historian. I was misremembering the story behind Selene and Shawols from the old tumblr fan account. I remember something about Jjong wrote the song about the super moon and international shawols sharing the same moon or was it taemin who told the shawols telling him shinee is like our moon so hard to reach that they'd think of international shawols around the world when they sing this. We all know later it became our tribute song to Jjong of course. He is after all our pearl aqua moon

Nothing makes me miss Kim Jonghyun so much as hearing this song! His death started a psychological downward spiral that took me two years to recover from. His pain, the fact that he felt so alone even though his life meant so much to so many people, was so hard to process. His music literally kept me afloat on so many occasions; His beautiful heart and life. I hope he knows somehow, somewhere, how much his life was worth, and what a priceless legacy he left behind.

When I heard and read the story on Jonghyun and his tragic story, it made me feel so bad for him that he felt like that when on the other hand his voice and music did for so much other people. I wish his own music will help him coped with what he dealt with and I know music is a powerful thing. I too dealth with my share of depression and music is a powerful weapon to help with that which I know you mentioned. I am glad to know you are doing well. Before this song sunwoo jungah singing her song "Runaway" and its really a sad song. Also selene 6.23 is a song that the lyrics written by jonghyun and maybe onew have something in his mind that time because he was chocked up before singing selene 6.23
