Hey Michelle! So glad that you're riding and even happier that you didn't quit! You can totally do this :)

Simple stop you don’t have to lift off your foot off the front sensor you just have to tilt slowly back but keep your weight centered over the wheel.

I had the same problem with a pair of shoes I was wearing. Shoes and foot placement make a difference. Don't give up you'll get a feel for the board and gain more trust in the board. These things are so much fun!

I did actually try my new Nike SBs yesterday and still felt like my back foot was gradually slipping. It does make me wonder if having my dominant foot in the back would fix that issue, but then I'd have to relearn riding it all over again.

Congratulations Michelle 👍🏽👍🏽 this Onewheel community is great. Good approach with safety first. Im new too, started with the Pint X. I kindly suggest to keep practicing. My approach was very basic and I took a step by step practice approach. Practicing and observing situational awareness along the way. For me , situation awareness is critical to surviving if riding in the NYC streets of my neighborhood... again, this is my opinion and approach. The Float Life guys have a bunch of great vids on this KZbin platform. Jake Leary is EXCELLENT at explaining how to do things. I am hooked on this. Looking forward to when temps go back above 20°F.

Keep it up. I'm on my 4th day with the OneWheel Pint X. I put in 50 miles and I'm loving it now. I used to skateboard so it was a lot easier for me, but I understand the fear when you start wobbling and the burning feeling of riding for only 2 minutes. I constantly changed foot positions to see what was most comfortable for me and I repeatedly changed my stance from straight to bent. Good luck and have fun.
@kyudoka2 жыл бұрын
Ever since XR 4212 newer and new Pint Xs the front footpad sensor have an extra plastic layer. The best way to engage both sides of the front sensor you can either use another layer of grip tape. But I have found using furniture footpads (little round one sided stick pads) where my feet usually step on has consistently engaged my sensor. Once you get more confident you can work on carving and work on foot weight distribution to stop the wobblies. I turned off simple stop and just learned quick stop. Keep practicing and stop when you need to and get back at it. I was nervous in the beginning but slowly built that confidence esp random nosedive (low battery and uphill)

I got my Pint X in November and had the exact same issues (shoes, sensors, etc.,) the first few days. It's a quirky and fearsome thing but also a hell of a lot of fun. Way to stay with it!

I found it's important to carve flexing my ankles with the heel toe motion, similar to snowboarding...Once I began to relax and carve, my feet and legs felt less fatigue! I'm a newbie to the OneWheel...Take your time, once you feel comfortable riding without falling off...Go out and try riding on various terrain, concrete paths, gravel roads etc....It's important to learn how the OW will handle in various terrain conditions! I picked up the Pint X on the 28th of December....It's an incredible machine and will climb the steepest streets. Practice carving left and right nice and slow! I've got 226 miles of riding total ..Good Luck!.......I love the OW so much I ordered the GT also

Thanks a bunch for the tips! I'm definitely trying to carve more, can't wait to eventually be comfortable enough to just carve with no effort without the fear of falling, but little by little!

Learn at a pace that is best for you. You will gain comfort and confidence with time. Try and take a breath and enjoy the journey. The Onewheel is an amazing machine. It will do wonders for you if you ride within its limits (which shouldn’t be a concern for you based on the precautions you are taking). All in all, excellent progress so far, and welcome to the community!

I find personally and from others that Onewheel's take a good amount of experience of limit testing to fully understand and feel comfortable. I have an regular Pint w/ 150 miles and still feel uncomfortable sometimes. Even as a snowboarder and longboarder I was shaky the first couple days. It's like any other skill, practice and experience. Welcome to the community, float on!

It definitely gets better with practice and flat shoes do help . Before going fast I would take notes of the dips on the road . Dips are the arch nemesis of a one wheeler.
@death2652 жыл бұрын
Everything you are experiencing is completely normal for new riders. The wobbles will go away with the more time you put into practicing and carving does help. The foot slippage is an illusion of the mind. Anytime you think you feel your foot slipping just look down and you'll see your foot hasn't moved from where it started. That will also go away in time after you get more comfortable. With the dismounting, I'd suggest you learn how to quick stop. When riding remove your front foot and bring it back parallel with your rear foot. This will stop the board instantly at any speed and for me is the easiest way to dismount. Keep at it and you'll love it for sure!
@SweetSimplicitix2 жыл бұрын
Very cool that you said that it is an illusion of the mind because that's exactly what I started to tell myself. I noticed that I would always think my foot was slipping and then I would look down and realize it didn't move at all.

I got a Pint X and I still don't have the dismount down. What I do isn't pretty but it's safe and consistent. I slow down to a complete stop and as I stop I tip the board over toe side and do a small hop off the board as my toes come to the ground. I end up with my board tipped on it's side but I'm not afraid of falling this way.

I have several pairs of vans. By far the best ones for me have been midtop vans with comfycush for ankle support/ankle protection if your board decides to kick you inadvertently and comfycush helps a little with foot fatigue. It still doesn’t completely replace carving and occasionally changing foot position

To help with wobbling: Put diagonal pressure on the board from your feet. In other words put more weight on your back foot's toes and more weight on your front foot's heel. Or do the reverse and put more weight on your back foot's heel and more weight on your front foot's toes. Whichever feels more comfortable.
@SweetSimplicitix2 жыл бұрын
I was starting to try something different where I would point my front foot forward a bit more instead of having it parallel to my back foot and I was liking it. I'm actually really surprised my feet come off the side of the board because I'm a small person.

When it comes to slipping feet yes shoes will absolutely help, Also, for future reference, the future motion grip tape isn't the greatest in my opinion especially in bumpy areas, the float life along with craft and ride have great grip tape (I switched mine to craft and ride grip tape, best in market and I was really pissed off at one point with my older grip tape from future motion after wearing it down a bit with more serious mileage)

I just got mine 5 days ago. Now I'm a pro... KIDDING. My method is.... right or wrong is hold on to something with board OFF and tilt n tip it front to back and heal to tow in a kind of circle. I find myself relying less on what i hold on to and the muscles used are getting use to the feeling of the board under my feet keeping them flat on to board. We all have an Instinct to lift heel or tow to stay balanced. Now i can stand on it for 1 or maybe 2 seconds balanced not powered or holding on so i am improving. I find keeping my back foot straight across the board and front at a angle tows forward is best for me to balance. I Also practice my heal lift to turn off the motor and dismount in this way building on that muscle memory. No fear or nervous feeling when not moving 😉. Practicing in this way also really saves battery and skin to LOL.

If you want more confidence and more trust on footpads you might want to upgrade to a grippier grip tape I recommend watching a tutorial on how to install a fresh pair of grip tape though because you dont wanna remove the footpad pressure sensor. Also skate shoes are the best for riding onewheels in my opinion, always rocking my vans. I ride my pint x with craft and ride grip tape plus vans and my feet always feel locked :0 . Have a great day!

Stick with it, you'll be able to go on those long journeys in no time. I was all about the OW for years. When I finally got it I was... Underwhelmed. It took me 3 or so days to move around. But still wasn't having fun. That, until l tooky first ride around town. I had so much fun moving around and discovering things. My foot hurt a lot, so I rest often. I ended up getting Nike SBs which helped my foot a lot. Simple Stop will grow on you. I know a lot of folks hate it. For me, it's a means to and end. And, I actually prefer it. Wish that I lived in Cali so I can help. There is a huge OW community out there though. In any case, here's a few tips from me: 1. Place your front foot at a 45degree angle. For me, it's more comfy and I yeah. My nieces to ride this way. It'll be help with Stability and Motor engagement. 2. When you get going, try going up curbs, tiny bumps, and tiny inclines. I just to fear them because it felt "wrong". What it teaches you is how to optimize your riding for any situation. Once you can ride round town comfortably you'll be able to bring pets along among other things (I use it for moving my trash can to/from the curb). 3. Learn to carve and turn. This is more advanced, but once I learned this skill s little, I felt that I was ready for any situation. 4. Have fun! Put some music on and enjoy the ride. Float on!

Do you think that would solve my back foot feeling like it's slipping? I wore skate shoes to ride and still felt like my back foot was adjusting slightly as I rode and I just lost confidence in my stance gradually.
@oldretireddude2 жыл бұрын
Go gear! Don't let yourself give up on the gear too fast, the OW has teeth and overconfidence is a big issue with the OW. To be teeter-tottering on the dead board shows me that you are fairly athletic to begin with. Have you let some air out of the tire to help with stability? Rule of thumb is your weight divided by 10, then adjust to your taste. Less psi is more stabile (will loose some range), more psi is less stabile but more agile and zippy.
@SweetSimplicitix2 жыл бұрын
Haha I think I'm ok with keeping the tire psi the same and to just continue practicing. I ordered shoes so hopefully that'll help with me thinking my foot is slowly slipping as I ride.

Get good shoes. I use Vans. They have a good platform for these boards. Keep up the riding. You are building up leg muscles that you have hardly ever used yet, and it takes time. Also, don’t do too much riding all at once. A lot of people think that we learn by doing, but in all actuality we INPUT information by doing, and the learning part comes when our brain rests. That’s why things seem to be easier after coming back to it. Kind of like studying for a test, and then getting plenty of rest the night before.

I'm actually a little intrigued because from watching the show when I was young I always thought that Yu-Gi-Oh actually seemed pretty badass if it were made into a more accessible game than physical cards. Reading the reviews though, it doesn't seem that newbie friendly? I don't know the culture around the game at all, but I'd want to enjoy it without spending much money and honestly idk if my idea of the game is correct where it's just turn by turn. People in reviews make it sound like people will have master decks that will destroy you in one turn lol.

@@SweetSimplicitix It's very true that people will have master decks, but we have to take into account that the game has been out for over 20 years. I t has a lot of different cards, but this is what makes it amazing, there's endless possibilities. The game offers so much knowledge and the ability to copy/examine other players decks. If a guy has a crazy deck you can try copying it. So far the currency has given me a lot for free but it's only been out for a day.
