As someone who has worked at Spirit Halloween, yes, people do buy banana costumes, breathalyzers, which the blow into part is at crotch level, and the readout says "6969", which is very funny, a hilarious joke. There are a bunch of other "silly" ones, to the point where the "humor costume section" was the entire back corner of the store. Thankfully they weren't the most popular, by far, but people bought them.
