Great hearing you guys giving it praise too.

Ratchet and Clank are the only survivors of the PS2 Platformer Characters. Other than Crash, and Spyro I suppose. But they don’t count because they aren’t exclusive anymore.
@Grendel692 жыл бұрын
The enjoyable parts of Ratchet and Clank were the variety of weapons, fun characters and cool worlds, the soundtrack was pretty baller too. That all kinda ended with the PS3 and onward as they went in a new direction, more cinematic and focused on the shooting. Some characters fell flat on their ass yeah, just completely not funny. But some of the jokes in those games had me chuckling even these days. 2 in my opinion is the pinnacle of what Ratchet and Clank should be, with all the good bits of 1, and then some, while still maintaining a lot of platforming and some puzzle elements. I've played most of the ones I could get my hands on, 1, 2, 3, 4 (most of them recently as well) and into the nexus a while back. The reboot was... okay, I played it to 100% but it never really gave me that charm I felt with the PS2 titles, the guns were fun even if some were a bit annoying, looking at you RYNO, I hate the music they added with the newer titles. The story too, my GOD the fucking story. It annihilated major characters origins, gutted most of the cool lore from the OG trilogy and made Ratchet into a little bitch boy. But yeah, the games are fun, but don't play the reboot for the story. play the OG's, they Kick ASS. As for the hypothetical killing the villain scenario, it would depend on the style of game. If it's open world let them kill the villain and continue with no main story, just side quests, it's up to them lol. Just make sure they know they've killed the main story in a big WARNING somehow. for very linear games I like lyle's flinch idea.
@gandalf17532 жыл бұрын
@stupid Cat Imo only the originals gameplay was a little lacking, mainly because of no strafing in that one. But honestly rc2 was easily the best game of the entire series, easily outshining the new ones. At the time the OG was pretty unique though not to many other platorming shooters that I know of around that time, and the style and music was the strongpoint of that game.
@rattbastard2 жыл бұрын
@@gandalf1753 Really? I picked up the trilogy collection for ps3 and I HATED rc2 Got to the end of the game and everything and I disliked every moment of it rc3 had really enjoyable combat while rc1 was just fun to dick around in not sure if I was playing wrong or what but by the end of rc2 I was getting 2-shot by even the weakest enemy, so that probably had something to do with it
@gandalf17532 жыл бұрын
@@rattbastard To me it was a good balance between the direction and style of the og to the improved combat of the 3rd. If you ever give it another chance try to get the bubble shield and drones asap, they help a ton, also gotta keep a lookout for the health upgrades and buy the best armor you can. My problem with 3 is it seemed to get really repetetive, most of the enemies were tyrranids and alot of the levels were really bland especially compared to rc1. I still have the most nostalgia for the OG game though, some of those levels and soundtracks will be in my head forever.

@HipnikDragomir2 жыл бұрын
The stories weren't all that in the PS2 games, but they did have subtle social commentary against corporate shenanigans which was appreciated. Starting with the PS3 they decided to get all serious and it's just lame.
@RestingMoose2 жыл бұрын
The original games were quite special back in the day, especially the first one. The movie and the reboot completely ruined the origin story and the characters of Ratchet and Clank. It turned the games into patronizing baby games, much like this one. In the original they were also poking fun at consumerism and big corporations, which was completely replaced with a shitty 'I want to be a superhero' plot. TheGamingBritShow breaks it down really well, why the originals were good and the new ones bad. It's not just nostalgia.
@nerdstorma84272 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Instead of being the unique edgy story it was with a dash of corporate cynism: mocking fake products, Ratchet and Clank basically just started copying bland new Diseny/Pixar. They became the very thing they set out making fun of.

15:13 Regarding the killing NPCs conversation, one of the most infuriating things about the Assassin's Creed sequels is that they completely removed the ability to kill NPCs. If a game doesn't let you kill NPCs, that's one thing, but if the rules change from one game to the next, it's such a bummer because you _know_ they could do it, but changed it for whatever reason.

I think the main thing is that while the ps4 and Xbox one probably would make this a slog, the thing is they were obsolete essentially when they released because they were based on older gpu and cpu tech. In fact, the irony is that because the pc was playing games at 1080p so long ago, by trying to aim those systems at 1080p, you ended up with every game having upscaled resolutions and standard 30fps. Like the irony is the xbox series x and ps5 are finally "4k ray tracing" consoles, but like, their hardware is probably better suited to 1440p gaming. So like consoles give you that big sense of a leap in tech, playing games on pc really makes you jaded. I think even with the xbox one x and ps4 pro it kind of made you jaded too, unless you were playing games at 4k, where games still struggled on both to an extent (the ps4 pro didn't even have true 4k in most graphics heavy titles). I only have a 2060 and play at 1440p, but I feel like this game would have run at 4k30 or 1440p60 pretty easy on that era of card, at the very least a 2060 super or 2070 (I say this because of potential raytracing). Without the ray tracing, a game like this probably could have run on like a 970 Ti or 1070 no problem. Insert equivalent amd cards as well. Then again, I'm not ragging on anything or being pcmr, I can go back and play games on console and get used to 30fps and all that stuff, I get used to it easily. I'm just saying I feel like consoles have only really had an edge on pc back in the day, like with gcn/ps2/xbox, since their unique hardware allowed them to have different looks and qualities you might not have seen on pc back then. Like I don't think, back on release, you could really have a pc do all the stuff the gcn did with Luigi's mansion because of the unique hardware. Not that everything is just off the shelf hardware, more or less, running unity, unreal, or a smattering of other engines, it just feels like consoles are these weird closed gardens, despite being essentially PCs. Hell, I even wondered if super Mario galaxy could have been done on the 360 or ps3 without a ton of custom shaders and stuff.
