Why do they tie bags to the ends of the keepnets ?

when the ships go by then the net goes from left to right and thats not good for the fish getting slapped across the stones . the bag is weighted with stones and if at the end of the match your net is stuck between the stones you pull the net and the bag will open letting the stones out and the net is free . thanks for watching Terry.
