Ideally 2cms to 2.5 cms.. 2) It needs to be ivory white generally, if it has turned pale yellow, reddish etc then it's most likely spoilt. 3) Usually fresh and edible coconut meat sticks to the shell and would be difficult to separate from the shell unless refrigerated. Hence grating is required. If the coconut meat separates from its shell with ease it's likely it's spoilt or on the verge of being spoiled. 4)If the water inside is too misty its likely the coconut is spoilt. The water has to be semi transparent, atleast upto 70-80%. If it's the other way around the coconut maybe spoilt. 5) Strong smell of coconut or pungent smell shows the coconut is spoilt. The smell should be minimum or sometimes non-existent. 6)The texture or feel is more crispy or hard, if it's too soft or weak like in the video, it's a strong indicator it's spoilt. The above indications cannot be applied to tender coconut, but the brown mature coconuts as seen in the above video. To clearly know if a coconut is rotten comes from regular use of it, the taste and smell makes it clear.

​​​​​@@kenzy9995 been a while since I've eaten coconuts but i can remember the stinky smell, the flesh being green-ish and murky water of rotten coconuts Btw, young coconut flesh is thinner, more transparent and tasty and the water is sweet; adult's flesh is slightly harder and thicker and the sweet juice has slight acidity; old one's just hard, lost most of it's tastiness (you can extract coconut milk from it tho) and the water almost have a soda-like (not that it bubbles like soda ofc) texture but still good. Out of context but coconut milk is good substitute for shampoo and conditioner lol

the coconut is not spoiled its ripe, in southern india they classify 100% riped coconuts as spoiled due to the fact that they hold no value for recipes or any other values in terms of marketing when they ripen as they lose flavor, and condensity. It aggrivates me when ppl clarify they are from a certain ethnicity/race to try and back up info as if they know better when they are just as much subjected to being incorrect than anyone else on some matters.
