September 1998 Seoul National University "Land (Toji) School" Lecture The Whole Counsel of God Father Dae Cheon Deok Founder of the Jesus Abbey [Prayer] 0:10 … that we do not stray neither to the left nor to the right, 0:20 but lead us that we may stay directly on the path of the Lord. And, if we miss one or two things, 0:29 please help us to recognize this and give us the strength to investigate these things more deeply. 0:33 Lord! Please grant the help of the Holy Spirit to those of us who are lecturing. 0:44 Please strengthen the use of our minds, the propriety of our speech, and give insights to others. 0:53 Please strengthen those who listen not only to have insights but to also have peace. 1:04 As You have said, whoever tries to act in accordance with Your will 1:16 will know whether these things are from heaven or from man. 1:19 Lord! Please give us the ability to discern and the ability to carry out Your will. 1:32 We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ. 1:34 "The whole counsel of God" means that one must know the entirety of the counsel of God. 1:43 Many denominations believe and emphasize only a portion of the Bible. 1:50 There are not many denominations that digest and convey the Bible from start to finish. 2:00 At Jesus Abbey, we start reading from Genesis and Matthew and continue reading. 2:08 After finishing Revelation, we return to Matthew, and after finishing the Old Testament we return to Genesis. 2:18 We read continuously in efforts to avoid omitting a single verse. 2:27 Similarly for Psalms, we start at Psalm 1 and read until 150, and upon finishing start all over. 2:35 By doing so, we uncover many verses that are typically ignored by most churches. 2:43 But, it's not easy. It's so hard to digest it all! There are many complicated things that come out. 2:54 There are things that are hard to understand. Yet, we are to believe that it is the Word of God. 2:58 And we are to read it again and try to get understanding through discussion. If we don't understand it this time around 3:07 then we can have the attitude that maybe we can understand it the next time around. So, it's fun that way. 3:15 We must understand what the whole counsel of God, the complete counsel of God, is. 3:22 So, in relation to a few of today's topics, there is a good Korean saying about Eum and Yang (Yin and Yang in Chinese). 3:42 Actually, although the terms Eum and Yang don't appear in the Bible, I believe their concepts exist. 3:54 They are not anti-Biblical concepts. They are evident from nature, itself. 4:03 If you have a bowl, there's an outside and an inside. Without the outside, there would be no place for things to go into. 4:13 If you have no inside, there would be no content within. All bowls must have the Eum and Yang go together. 4:25 When you think of marriage, when a man and a woman marry, it's the marriage of Eum and Yang. This is a fundamental law of nature. 4:43 The Bible says that though the man and woman become one flesh, they each have different responsibilities. 4:51 Therefore, although the Eum and Yang must go together, they are not the same thing. 4:59 Pneumatologically speaking, there is a relationship to the Eum and Yang concepts. 5:07 Some denominations emphasize the fruits of the Spirit, that is the Holy Spirit who enters a person's heart and causes regeneration 5:19 and the bearing of love, joy, long-suffering, and various other spiritual fruit. 5:28 But, they don't say a single word about the power of the Holy Spirit. 5:34 Other denominations emphasize the power of the Holy Spirit and say that if you receive the Holy Spirit then you can perform miracles. 5:42 That you can teach. You will have the power to preach. You will have the strength to spread the Gospel. 5:51 That, too, is correct. However, this denomination would only talk about these things. 5:56 And the other denomination would only talk about the other thing. It's because they are unable to understand the Eum -Yang concept. 6:02 Pneumatologically speaking, Eum is the inner work of the Holy Spirit, that changes the person, his personality, and makes him into a new person 6:16 so that, because he has the sap of the Holy Spirit, the person grows and grows into a tree that bears fruit. 6:27 However, a tree is not a machine. We use many machines in the world. 6:38 Let's think about it. How would you live without machines? 6:42 Although you could live without machines, what would you do without a car? Without a phone? 6:51 What you do without factories? It'd be tough if we had to live on agriculture alone. It'd be no fun. 7:03 And yet, you can't live without agriculture, either. Agriculture is important. 7:08 Although the living and growing tree is important, the machine is needed, as well. 7:15 The power of the Holy Spirit is like the machine. If one is filled with the Holy Spirit 7:29 it's as if one is being charged. The power of electricity of the charged battery then can work in various ways. 7:43 Power comes out. However, a battery does not bear fruit. 7:49 If a battery is charged, fully discharged, and then left alone for a few days or a few years 7:57 the battery can be recharged and power can come out again. That's how a person who is filled with the Holy Spirit is like. 8:06 One can be newly charged numerous times. One can receive new strength numerous times 8:12 and go out and preach by the power of the Holy Spirit, perform miracles, and do a number of amazing things. 8:22 But, if you don't have fruit, then you are but a machine. You will not be a tree and have no life. So, I had some doubts. 8:39 Bible speaks often of being filled with the Holy Spirit. However, sometimes, the word "filled" 8:47 has a certain meaning in one context and has a different meaning in another. 8:54 Because of my doubts, I did a search on a computer. The computer program I had showed the words in the original language. 9:04 If I pressed a button, the original language would show up. I saw that "filled" showed the word "pletheis" in one place, 9:12 but in another place it showed the word "plereis". Ah ha! The words were not the same! 9:19 So, I looked up the words in a bible dictionary and saw that "plereis" and "pletheis" meant the same thing. There was no difference in meaning. So, I became doubtful. 9:34 So, I tested this on the computer. I gathered all the verses that used the word "pletheis". 9:42 Then, I gathered all the verses that used the word "plereis." 9:46 I compared them in parallel and, haha, I noticed a difference. If it was related to the machine aspect, then it showed "pletheis". 9:55 If it was related to life aspect, then it showed "plereis". This was clearly an Eum and Yang relationship. 10:01 "Pletheis" is the Yang component where the machine-like power comes out. 10:08 When the power of the Holy Spirit comes out, it is described as a "filling" of the Holy Spirit. 10:14 But, in the translations, this [other thing] is also called "filling." 10:16 This is not a "filling". This is a "sufficiency". A soul will die without the sufficiency of the Holy Spirit. 10:25 The sufficiency of the Holy Spirit is like the sap inside of a tree. 10:31 If a tree has sap, then it can live and bear fruit. 10:37 If a tree does not have sap, it dies and there is no way to make it recover. 10:42 But, the filling of the Holy Spirit gives a machine-like power and performs a machine-like function. 10:52 The distinction between the Eum and Yang is found in a Spirit-led life. 10:59 The bible makes this distinction. Clearly. 11:04 However, no one has discovered this distinction. All the bible dictionaries say that there is no distinction. 11:16 There are two reasons for this. One is because they did not compare [the verses] carefully. 11:24 The other is because they did not think to make a distinction because they did not have the Eum-Yang mindset. 11:30 Westerners did not think too deeply on this, and were unable to come to this realization. 11:39 That is why in the Western world, there is much conflict in marriage. 11:44 They were unable to realize that Eum and Yang need to go together. 11:48 However, in the Korean Taegukgi, the Eum and Yang symbols appear. They are reminded again and again on a daily basis. 11:57 To live together and to cooperate with each other, becoming one while maintaining distinctions. 12:04 Not bad distinctions, but proper ones where I have my role and you have your separate role. 12:13 But, as we perform our separate roles we cooperate and help each other. 12:19 And when we finally have children, we give strength to the children. 12:27 Although the mother does the work of breastfeeding, the father cannot breastfeed. 12:35 But, the father can go out and work in the field and feed the family with the produce from it. 12:41 Or he can earn money and provide the strength to maintain the family lifestyle. 12:47 Also, one other reason why they were unable to find the distinction is because they apathy. 12:56 Most scholars were only interested in the sufficiency of the Holy Spirit, but not the filling of the Holy Spirit. 13:07 Until the start of the Full Gospel denomination in 1907, for a long, long time, no denomination 13:17 talked about the filling of the Holy Spirit. D. L. Moody spoke much about the baptism of the Holy Spirit 13:26 and my grandfather, R.A. Torrey Sr., taught about the baptism of the Holy Spirit a 100 years ago. 13:33 The church was receptive to this teaching until the Full Gospel movement suddenly sprang up 13:42 and the issue of speaking in tongues came about. If it was said that it was OK whether or not one spoke in tongues, then there would have been no issue. 13:50 But, there were those who insisted that speaking in tongues was absolutely mandatory and that one could not have received the Holy Spirit without speaking in tongues. 13:58 So, my grandfather went to them and exhorted them, "I'm sorry, but the Bible does not have such a teaching."
@albertlee54397 жыл бұрын
14:05 "Please do not emphasize this point, but your other teachings are good." 14:12 "You can teach that acts of power and miracles come by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit." 14:19 "That people can prophesy. And, also, that people can speak in tongues." 14:25 "But, please do not teach that you MUST do so. There is no such teaching in the Bible." 14:31 "No! If you do not speak in tongues then you do not have the Holy Spirit!" 14:38 So, my grandfather said, "I'm sorry, but it appears there is no way we can work together." 14:44 Ultimately, the Evangelicals only emphasized the inner working of the Holy Spirit and told you to leave if you spoke about the outward Holy Spirit. "Go to the Full Gospel church!" 14:55 And the Full Gospel church told my grandfather to leave. So, he was left alone in between them. 15:05 One side feels bad if you talk about the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The other side feels bad if you don't talk about speaking in tongues. 15:15 But, my grandfather already had this insight because he had read the bible many, many times. 15:22 Just as he had felt, he realized that that one needed both and that both needed to be mutually recognized. 15:28 Finally, about 23 years ago, the Charismatic movement formed. Finally, a group that matched my grandfather's position had formed. 15:44 Until that time, our family was the only ones that held to that teaching. 15:51 Finally, others came to the same realizations, started teaching it, and now it is has spread widely. 15:58 So, when it comes to our relationship to the Holy Spirit, we need both Eum and Yang aspects. 16:04 We need both the filling and the sufficiency of the Holy Spirit. If we had a computer program, 16:17 we could see which verses were about filling and which were about sufficiency. 16:22 It's difficult to find without a computer program. So, I would like to request of the young people 16:31 that every one of you install a bible program on your computers. The bible program that I use 16:40 is one that is easy to use. It's a program called Word Search. 16:47 It's published by Navigators and is a good program. 16:53 The only thing is that it doesn't have the Greek Old Testament. There is another program that has the Greek Old Testament. 17:04 But, that program is really hard to use! It's so complicated! So, I don't use it very much. 17:11 If you do get a bible program, please get one that is easy to use. 17:17 Rather than a program that has many translations, you'll want a program that shows an explanation of the original language with the verse in the original language. 17:30 So, if you do a search on all verses with "plereis" and all the verses with "pletheis" 17:38 and compare the two, you can instantly make the judgment on your own. And if there are other translation difficulties, you can do the same thing. 17:47 But, if you think not only of the issues concerning the Holy Spirit, but also issues concerning prayer 17:53 There is no Christianity without prayer. But, in prayer there is an Eum-Yang aspect, as well. 18:03 When you pray for yourself, that is Eum. Many people go all out in prayer. 18:13 They pray every day and with all fervor. However, it's only prayer for themselves. 18:20 Of course, you must pray for yourself. You cannot say that you don't need it. 18:26 But, intercession is a different thing. That is the Yang aspect. 18:31 When you're praying for someone else, but not for yourself! For someone else! 18:38 The reason why Jesus Abbey was founded was so that it can become a house of prayer for others. 18:47 Many people, when they think of a prayer house, or even a prayer mountain, 18:52 They go to pray only to resolve their own problems. 18:55 But, the Jesus Abbey is a place of prayer for the resolutions of national problems. 18:59 Also, for people who are hurting, those with complicated issues, world evangelism, or global politics, 19:11 national politics, economic issues, or issues with the national culture. We pray for these things. 19:20 Our prayer topic is to pray about what we can do with Christian culture. 19:25 So, we pray every day for the nation and for the church. 19:31 And we pray for people with problems. This is Yang prayer. 19:38 We need both. After this, there is the issue of work. 19:46 The word of the Lord. Jesus said, "as the Father has been working until now, I am also working." 19:54 God does not rest. God created the world in 6 days. 20:01 Then rested one day. But it doesn't say that he rested forever after. 20:05 It says he rested for one day, and then he started working again. 20:10 Our God is the Creator God. Accordingly, He does creative work. 20:16 We need to be influenced by God in our work. But, there is a Eum-Yang distinction in our work, as well. 20:25 when I work with my body, that is Yang. Is there another way? 20:33 Yes, prayer. When you pray, you are working, as well. 20:38 Saint Benedict said, "To work is prayer, and to pray is work." 20:47 Both are always needed. Eum and Yang. So, we work with the body and with prayer. 20:57 We strive to work and we strive to pray. And God is working. 21:03 If I don't do the things that I am able to do, then I am a lazy person. 21:09 But, there are many things that I cannot do. In those times, rather than giving up or getting discouraged 21:17 make your requests to God. And though I am working in my strength, pray, "Lord, my strength is so inadequate." 21:27 "Please work with me and grant me power by the Holy Spirit." 21:35 "So that the work may be done effectively." The two perspectives must always exist. 21:44 The perspective of effort, the perspective of activity. And the perspective of what looks like inactivity, but is in reality, prayer. 21:52 You don't have to pray loudly. If you like to pray loudly, it is alright to do so. 22:00 But, some people pray in silence. Even though one only prays internally, God still uses that prayer. 22:07 It's not about having to do it this way, and it's not about having to do it that way. 22:15 After this is "discipleship." Let's think about discipleship. 22:21 Jesus did not ask us to go throughout the world and make believers. 22:31 He did not say to go and evangelize the whole world. 22:28 He said to go to the whole world and make disciples. What is a disciple? 22:46 A disciple is someone who carries the cross. A person who lives from start to finish according to the will of God. 22:57 Many Christians think that having believed in Christ and received forgiveness by the shedding of his blood 23:04 that they can now do as they please! Ha! I have been freed by God! 23:10 That kind of "freedom" is living for yourself. 23:15 However, in the Anglican Church, there is a prayer that says 23:24 "To serve you is perfect [or true] freedom." Where does "perfect freedom" come from? 23:33 Serving God, becoming his servant is how one obtains perfect freedom. 23:41 There is Eum and Yang there, as well. To say that "I'm going to be vigorous, since I'm now free" 23:49 "I'll do whatever I please" is wrong. 23:54 If you only live according to the will of God, you will be able to obtain true freedom. 24:00 Jesus said, "Whoever is to become my disciple must take up his cross and follow me." 24:12 Must everyone take up the cross? There must always be the danger of being nailed to the cross. 24:22 If we become popular people, and there is no one who dislikes us, 24:29 if there is no one who persecutes us, no one who despises us, and no one who mocks us, 24:36 then perhaps it's because we are not doing anything that shares about Jesus. 24:43 We are currently reading in the Gospel of John at Jesus Abbey. 24:50 I got a fresh impression of the Gospel of John when I read it this time. 24:57 When I read it this time, I thought to myself, "Jesus, why did you fight like that?" 25:04 "You kept intentionally going out to cause trouble to get into fights with the Pharisees and scribes." 25:10 "You kept saying strange things. If you only said gentle things then there would have been no trouble." 25:18 "What was the reason for constantly saying those antagonizing things?" 25:25 As I was reading the Gospel of John, I got a strong impression that this was very difficult to understand. 25:32 Before, I thought that I understood, but this time, I thought that there would be no way I could understand. 25:38 Actually, Jesus entered into many fights. There was much adversity. 25:48 Of course, Jesus did so to resolve social problems and economic problems. 25:58 It was after his first sermon on the mount that the fights started. "Blessed are the poor" 26:05 "for they shall inherit the earth." What does this mean? They will be given the land for free. 26:13 Because the land is theirs, their inheritance, they will get the land for free. 26:19 The landowners saw that they were in trouble, they thought, "this man is going to declare the Year of Jubilee." 26:25 If the Year of Jubilee is declared then each person would get their land back. There were many who did not possess any land. 26:33 And there were many landowners with much land. Those with a lot of land became very rich. 26:40 If I were to have 10,000 pyeong (.033 km^2; 8.17 acres), I could build a farm and live well. 26:51 But if I were to lend the 10,000 pyeong to a tenant and ask for half the harvest, it would be hard for me to live off that. 27:09 But, if I were to have 20,000 pyeong and lent it out to two tenants, then I could live well off of the harvest from 10,000 pyeong. 27:22 If were to have 30,000 pyeong, now I have some disposable income. If I were to have 40,000 pyeong, then I have become wealthy. 27:28 But, each of the tenant farmers are living in difficult conditions. 27:35 That is why the Bible commands that the land be returned to the original owners. 27:41 But, Jesus, in his first sermon, said that the land was to be returned to everyone. 27:44 The landowners decided to kill Jesus once he declared that the land was to be returned.
@albertlee54397 жыл бұрын
27:50 That is when the landowners decided to kill Jesus. But, Jesus already knew this. 27:59 Not only that, but he also said that, according to the will of God, a leader was to become a slave. 28:06 That one must go below others and become humble. But, the Pharisees said, "We know better." 28:13 "Ahem! We are the leaders! Ahem!" But, Jesus said that they were to become slaves. 28:23 That they were to go beneath others. But, they didn't want to hear this word. 28:28 They had no intention of going beneath others. 28:32 So, Jesus kept chasing after them, kept making them feel bad with his strange sayings. 28:40 Do I always have to make others feel bad? 28:49 It is possible that a person who doesn't like the truth would feel bad for hearing the truth. 28:58 What should I do? The Holy Spirit will show you. Sometimes there will pass long periods of time without adversity 29:07 while many people receive blessings. But suddenly, the moment will arrive 29:12 if I am determined to follow the path of Christ no matter what 29:17 if I am determined to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit 29:24 the moment will arrive when the problem of the cross will come up. Someone who wants to crucify me on the cross will appear. 29:32 Actually, I am ashamed to have lived until the age of 80. I've never had a big fight to this point. 29:41 I don't know if it's because I've compromised. But, Lord, is there something wrong with me for not having been killed to my deep embarrassment, 29:54 or that I have not been faced with a huge temptation? 30:04 Lord, please guide me. I want to do according to your will. 30:11 If you want me to start a new journey at the age of 80 like Moses, then I am willing. 30:20 When Moses embarked on a new journey at the age of 80, he kept running into many fights. 30:27 He fought with Pharoah, then he fought with Israel, then he fought with this nation and that nation. 30:33 Then as he lived in the wilderness he was almost killed on numerous occasions. He suffered many things. 30:41 Until then, he had lived uneventfully in a palace and didn't have many problems. 30:49 Is it because I am like a person living in a palace? 30:54 Or is it because of some other reason that I have lived to this point? 30:59 But, regardless, Lord, please give me a heart that bears the cross. 31:05 Thus, one has to bear the cross to be a disciple. But, this bearing of the cross is Eum. 31:17 What is Yang? It is the making of disciples. 31:25 It is exhorting others, asking them, "Would you become Jesus' disciple?" 31:31 When you explain what it means to be Jesus' disciple, they say, "Alas, there's no way!" 31:40 But, God has requested that we go throughout the whole world to make disciples. That's Yang. 31:52 Eum is about becoming a disciple. Yang is about making disciples. 31:58 Next are societal issues. 32:03 Societal issues also fall into two types. Please read Micah 6:8. Micah 6:8. 32:26 Let's make sure I didn't cite the wrong verse. 32:37 Chapter 6, verse 8. That's the correct one. 32:41 "He has told you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?" 32:56 First, "to do justice." Second, "to love mercy." 33:05 Justice and mercy, here, are Eum and Yang. 33:10 Justice is Yang. It is the immediate effort to apply God's laws, God's economic laws, 33:17 to solve society's problems so that justice may be brought forth. 33:26 It doesn't say to "like justice" but to "do justice". 33:30 If we were to act justly, then there would be very few poor people on this earth. 33:38 Where would the poor people come from? The disabled, widows, orphans, and the homeless sojourners. 33:48 Although those people would continue to face poverty, those who are healthy would be gainfully employed 33:55 with sufficient income. That is justice. 33:59 If we were to do justice, then there would be very few poor people. 34:05 For the remaining poor people, those who cannot fix their problems, 34:11 we can address them with mercy, with the heart of love. 34:15 Ah! Here are people who lack food to eat. So, we'll distribute food to them. 34:20 This person doesn't have a home, so we'll build a home for him. 34:24 If this person lacks something, then we will provide assistance. 34:31 This is what the early church did. They didn't wait until justice was established. 34:39 They tried to provide assistance to everyone in need, and were successful. 34:48 Ultimately, if you look at Acts Chapter 4, there was no one among them who was needy. 34:58 However, the principle is that one should not start with mercy. 35:04 There are three schools of thought among current missionaries. 35:12 One school only seeks to spread the Gospel, saying "If you only believe in Jesus, you'll be saved!" 35:18 "What does it mean to be 'saved'?" "It means the forgiveness of sins." "But, I'm not a sinner." 35:24 "No! You are a sinner! If you do not repent of your sin, 35:28 "and do not receive salvation then you will go to Hell!" Is this good news? [laughs] 35:40 Many missionaries only talk about this. "Repent! This is good news!" 35:46 "If you only repent you'll be saved!" "What is salvation?" 35:51 "You will go to heaven after you die." "Then what happens before I die?" "I don't know." 35:59 "This is boring. Go tell someone else." 36:04 The second school of missionaries, because they have hearts of mercy, 36:11 they give out food, treat diseases, teach children, and do various social welfare activities. 36:22 But, because they do not have justice, there is no limit to the number of people who need welfare. 36:32 No matter how much money we gather, no matter how many children we feed, we can only scratch the surface of the problem. 36:39 Feeding the unemployed at Seoul Station is a good work, a beautiful work. But, it is only a token. 36:48 The underlying problem is not solved. The problem cannot be solved without justice. 36:56 If you go to India, there are countless numbers of starving people. 37:03 Mother Theresa and others like her would spend all their strength over their entire lives 37:10 helping the needy and showing love, and telling them that Jesus loves them. 37:19 But, the fundamental problem is not solved. The problem continues to get worse. 37:27 Mercy comes second! Justice comes first! However, there are very few missionaries who do justice. 37:38 Or, there are missionaries who want to do justice, but do not know what Biblical justice is. 37:45 Most of those who have the justice mindset learned it from liberation theology, or even Minjung theology. 37:54 But, those people have abandoned the Bible. They try to do everything with common ideas. 38:05 First… What do you call the thinking that's going around that's the popular thinking? "Politically correct"! 38:17 In English, there is a term called "politically correct". Words that are politically correct. 38:23 "This or that is politically correct." If you follow this then it will have nothing to do with the Bible, 38:32 and it will be ineffective. You will not be able to establish justice. 38:38 But, if you do God's justice, like Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, there will be much effectiveness. 38:49 Those three countries have very few unemployed people. They all have jobs. 38:56 But, because they don't know where the justice comes from, they believe in various evil spirits. 39:05 You can't begin to say how many superstitions they have. They want to become even richer. 39:11 Greed is growing more and more. If the fundamental problems are solved, 39:15 then people want more and more and the problems become unsolvable. 39:22 Without solving the spiritual problems, then the practical problems will be inadequately addressed. 39:30 Both the Eum and Yang need to go together. 39:35 Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the justice of God be maintained. 39:42 Without the justice of God, no matter how much people in the world are sorry, 39:50 take pity, or show love, there will be no effect. 39:55 The effect will be very small. Thus, justice must go together with mercy. 40:03 This is Yang, this is Eum, and these must go together. 40:08 Right now, there is justice in Taiwan, but nobody teaches the mercy of God and love of God. 40:18 If they are unable to solve the problem of increasing greed 40:24 and if they are unable to solve the problem of superstition, then they will live in the midst of darkness. 40:32 Because many Christians were in Hong Kong for a long time, 40:36 as they executed justice, they also had a lot of Christian teaching. 40:42 But, to the Hong Kong people, Hong Kong was never British land, but always Chinese land.

40:49 So on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong was returned to China. 40:57 As soon as the land was returned to China, it was declared to be Buddhist territory. They have so many superstitions! 41:04 God must have felt slighted, so he sent many diseases against them. 41:10 Hong Kong flu, Hong Kong chicken flu, all these came out. 41:16 You can't describe how many chickens they eat on New Year's Day. 41:25 The Chinese, in particular, consume a lot of chicken. But, the New Years Day of the following year 41:33 They were unable to eat any chicken. The chickens were all killed because of the flu. 41:38 God was telling them to know who he was. But, they asked, "Who? Who are you?" And so they were unable to hear. They don't know him. 41:47 So, in many ways, Eum and Yang need to go together. You can't have just Yang and you can't have just Eum. 41:59 We need to have both when we think about societal issues. 42:05 Next, the last topic is about the glory of God. Giving glory to God. 42:13 Who does that fit? In my opinion, the Yang here would be singing well, 42:25 singing out the hymns and clapping your hands. "God is great! Let's give glory to God!" 42:38 "Glory! Glory!" These aren't bad things. God wants to receive glory through these things. 42:43 But, if you look closer at the Bible, if you look at John Chapter 17 42:52 Jesus gave permission for the disciples to become unified and so that God would be glorified. 43:03 If the church is united as one, then God is glorified. 43:11 Worship is good. Again, you can see Eum and Yang within the context of worship. 43:19 Traditional worship. The old habits and traditions are not bad things. 43:29 Those things influence us. However, freestyle worship influences others. 43:37 This, too, has a distinction between Eum and Yang. But, God desires both. 43:46 Not solely freestyle worship, and not solely traditional worship, but God desires worship that contains both. 43:52 But, there is the principle that God is glorified by the church becoming one. 43:59 What does it mean to become one? Love! Loving one another 44:06 can be seen as glorifying God by Eum. 44:14 A few days ago, I read an article about Mongolia. Missionaries to Mongolia started missions there since 1870. 44:27 That's almost 130 years ago, about 2 years shy of 130 years. 44:39 But, where are the churches? Where was the effect? 44:47 There wasn't any. Why? It said that the missions effort in Mongolia has been constantly self-destructing. 45:02 Why? This missionary and that missionary are unable to cooperate. 45:09 "Only we are correct!" "No! Only we are correct!" They are competing with each other. 45:14 Today, there are over 30 missionary groups and associations in Mongolia. 45:26 They fight and compete against each other, and argue about who is right amongst themselves. 45:37 As this continues, it is inevitable that they would self-destruct again, by committing suicide. 45:46 Why? Because Jesus is not receiving glory, the Mongolians will not follow them. 45:52 Long ago, the Mongolians had decided to become Christian during the days of Kublai Khan. 46:07 They heard about Christianity through Marco Polo's family. 46:16 So, they sent envoys all the way to Rome. 46:25 "Send us 100 missionaries. We will become a Christian nation." 46:33 Although the Emperor asked around who would go, there were none who were willing to go. 46:41 "Ah, this is problematic. The road is long and difficult. It's no fun to living among the savages." 46:50 In the end, two monks tried to go but before they reached the half-way point, 47:05 they got discouraged about one-third of the way and turned back to their homes. 47:12 So, Kublai Khan sent envoys to Tibet, saying "We'll become a Buddhist nation." 47:20 Mongolia became a Buddhist country because the Christian church threw away the opportunity that God provided. 47:30 Mongolia stayed a Buddhist country for many years until, finally, the Christian church started talking about evangelizing them and went out to them. 47:44 But, they failed again because they would not cooperate, but rather, fought and competed against each other. 47:55 So, how are we to glorify God? We are not to give glory only with our words. 48:04 It's not only through a beautiful worship ceremony that we are to glorify God. 48:12 But, also through quiet, gentle love. If we become one through loving one another 48:23 then Jesus will receive glory. That is Eum. 48:30 Worshipping with loud voices is Yang. Acknowledging one another quietly, 48:36 understanding one another, and loving each other is Eum. 48:44 So, in order to give glory to God, 48:47 we cannot do without the work of the Holy Spirit within us. 48:53 The Holy Spirit is the one who acts from start to finish. 49:00 One the one hand, He gives power in ways that are Yang. 49:05 He gives power and works externally. 49:10 Also, on the flipside, he gives us the heart of quiet and gentle love within us. 49:19 In order for God to be glorified, all the gentle acts that are needed 49:25 are done by the Holy Spirit, as well. [Break] 49:30 Most of you who attend the Jubilee Conference know what I mean when I talk about justice. 49:39 For society to produce things, it needs labor and a place for people to work. 49:51 Without a place to work, nothing can be produced. 49:55 Humans are not birds that fly in the sky, nor are they fish that swim in water. 50:06 They are land dwellers. That is why they cannot do any work without land. 50:12 But some people say, "This is my land," and they build fences. 50:19 But, to provide space to work, they need access to that land. 50:25 So, they allow access only if they pay a lot of money. If the land price is increased 50:31 arbitrarily as they please, then there is no profit left even if one purchases the land to make a place to work. 50:40 Survival becomes difficult. Remember the story about the tenant farmers from earlier? 50:46 If this farm, this farm, and that farm are mine, and I receive rent from each tenant farmer 50:53 then I can receive a lot of money and become rich and will not have to work. 50:58 But, life becomes difficult for the tenant farmers. 51:02 Why? It's because I called the land my own. 51:06 But, according to what Henry George teaches, land issues can be resolved simply. 51:14 Although an individual's name might be on the title to the land, it really belongs to the nation. 51:23 In the Bible, the land belongs to God. God apportioned the land to each nation. 51:29 So, if each nation's government (whether it is the central government or local government, it doesn't matter) 51:37 received the land value tax, then the price of the land would fall and anyone could easily 51:48 set up workplaces and still receive profit. Practically, looking at Korea, 51:52 the price of land is indescribably high if one were to try to set up a factory. 52:03 Many houses are being built right now. On average, half of the house price is the land price. 52:13 So, the price of the house is twice its actual value. Housing prices are so high that it's hard to find a place to life. 52:22 Furthermore, our country is trying to export products. But, its products are expensive compared to other countries. Why? 52:32 It's not because the workers are receiving a lot of money. It's not because wages are high. 52:49 It's because land prices are high. Do you know how high the land prices are in Korea? 52:57 If you were to sell all of Korea's land, then you could buy the entire United States. Korean land is that expensive compared to American land. 53:08 So, production is near impossible. If one were to make high quality products 53:18 and pay adequate wages, it would be hard to sell them. Other countries can produce more cheaply. 53:28 Why? Taiwan's land prices are low. Even though they pay the same wages, they make a big profit. 53:40 So, they can sell their products more cheaply than we can. The fundamental justice problem is the problem of land prices. 53:51 Who owns the land? If private individuals refuse to pay a land tax because they own the land, then injustices can arise. 54:08 People will be used. But, if the government, even the local government… 54:14 In the United States, the City of Pittsburgh and the City of Harrisburg collect a land tax. 54:29 There, the land prices were lowered and many new homes were built. There is almost no unemployment. The city looks very nice. 54:38 Long ago, Pittsburgh used to have a lot of steel companies like our Pohang City and was a very dirty city. 55:03 Pittsburgh was famous for being the dirtiest city in America. But, then they started fixing the taxing system. 55:15 In an ordinary tax system, the land tax and the building tax are the same, at rates such as 20% or 12%. 55:26 But, Pittsburgh raised the land tax and lowered the building tax year by year. 55:32 As they started doing this, new buildings were built and jobs increased. 55:38 As this continued, Pittsburgh became one of America's best cities to live in. It's a famous case. 55:49 "Most livable city in America." It was the dirtiest city and now it's the most livable. 55:54 Why? Because they changed the land tax system. 55:57 So, if Henry George's theories are practically implemented, then a certain amount of justice is established. 56:09 The jobs are not going away, and people are living well off the wages they receive. 56:20 In other places, the wages are too low, preventing people from being able to live well. 56:26 Long ago, when I did construction work in America, I didn't have any skills. 56:37 I received the lowest salary. Yet, if I had gotten married on that salary, 56:46 I would still been able to support my family. Right now, even if you're a skilled worker 56:54 it is difficult to support your family, so the spouse has to go out and work. 56:57 The kids have to be sent to school and kindergarten and tuition has to be paid. It's hard to live.
