I have an onkyo tx-910 with the exact same problem. Tapping the relay does cause change. Now that I know this relay can be serviced, I'll give it the same DeOxit treatment and get it back to full operation. Very helpful video!

As a follow up, I did this exact repair tonight and it resolved the problem in my TX-910. Now it's working as new and sounds great. Thanks again for this video, it proved very helpful.

Nice repair, and nice catch. Would be hard to catch that one unless you know what you're looking for.

Thanks for posting this! I just bought one of these. tapa, tapa, tapa, I know how to do that haha. But seriously, helpful vid. It might not be a bad idea to spray in the relay once I get it whether it works or not.

The problem is as follows, when the amplifier is working there is no noise, but when it is turned down, noise is heard only in the R channels, it does not matter if I am on aux tape cd... After turning it off and on, it is fine, I wonder if I have the same problem with this relay, because at touch the relay this noise appears and disappears

would be nice to see how you removed and opened the relays, though

having the same issue. TX-7440 here. I guess those relays only had a lifetime of 30 years :D

I had a similar intermittent channel on a 1989 vintage JVC receiver. I eventually discovered a bad speaker relay. The Deoxit treatment didn't work, had to replace the relay. See the JVC video on my KZbin channel

Yes, sometimes they are to far gone.

You can get good quality drop-in Omron replacement relays on eBay via China Post cheap. I've used many with excellent results.

I saw that. I figured if this didn't clean it up I would order one. Thanks for looking out.

Yeah, I've seen lots of problems with relays like the one in this Onkyo. Denon used them in the AVR-5600. Died like flies.

DS484 model has intermittent volume 10-20-30 second drop with 5-10 full output signal, both channels. Any suggestions?

I see you have an Owon Oscilloscope. What do you think of them? I see people giving them bad reviews.

I think they are fine for people that don't want to spend a ton of money and don't need to make a lot complex measurements. It gets the job done in most cases.

you lucked out with an easy fix. Those Onkyo's are a pain in the ass to fix and they run hot. Since its 30 years old all the electrolytics are way out of spec. you are going to get voltage spikes all kind of nasty stuff. the owner will hand it back to you in 6 months

Funny how so many electronic repairs are really mechanical repairs.

you should not clean relays...just change them....it's a lot of time wasted for a 2 $ part...

Why spend money if you have the skill to repair something saves electronics waste
Are Onkyo's overheating?
