I worked for 2 years at a document scanning company years ago and proofreading was all I did 8 hours a day, basically catching errors that were caused by a faulty document scan. As a result, over the years, I find myself catching spelling and grammar errors on TV chyrons and documents. It's a habit I can't break! LOL

I am always on the look out for grammatical errors. I am an English major in college, and I am minoring in creative writing with the hopes of becoming an editor/ proofreader. The most common errors that I find are homonyms and quite a bit of mechanic and usage problems.

Thanks for the video! I have spotted errors my whole life, as early as 6 or 7, reading menus and finding misspellings. I did medical transcription for 13+ years as well as proofread other transcriptionists’ work, so I may give this a try as a side hustle. 😊

Great video, very helpful. Yes, I often see grammatical errors when I read. It is something that happens without any effort, and what I use to determine the trustworthiness of a product or communique. I expect professionalism in product reviews. Without it I will move on to another vendor.

I’m actually finishing up the Proofread Anywhere course, I got it while discounted almost a year ago, it gives you great starting tips and practice for getting up skills, building a portfolios and so much. There are two levels of the general course offered and marketing specifics would be accessible within the plus option. I only have the regular currently but I’m sure there are marketing tips and guidance online

@mimipastry
@mimipastry 2 жыл бұрын
@@stateofconsciousness9174 I didn’t have a lot of money at the time even with a discount and the other type is more expensive (both the plus and the transcript one) and I wanted to see what the general course had to offer. I hadn’t stuck with it to completion as of current but it wasn’t a bad starting place. There is a supportive Facebook group but only to an extent. The marketing specifics are for the plus students only unfortunately 🙄 So I guess it depends on which you’d like to commit to. I hope I answered your question 😅

Thank you so much for this information! I am a stay at home mom with a love for (and many have said a gift for!) writing and editing. I’ve been looking into freelancing options for some time now, and your video gave me the kick in the pants I needed to just DO IT. I set up a profile on UpWork yesterday and have already begun submitting proposals. I am a published author with a personal website and blog, and am giving that information for the prospective clients to check out when I send proposals - haven’t gotten any takers yet but I am hoping someone will give me a chance so I can begin to build some credibility! I’m not going to give up until someone does 😅😏 Thanks again!

If I can just get a couple, I think it’d be easier moving forward. I’ve applied for a few really simple, quick turnaround ones just to try to get something and maybe some helpful feedback for my profile in return. But not sure how to snag those first ones 😅

Hello there. First I would like to tell you that I enjoyed your video and it is very informational. To answer your question regarding if when I am reading something, do I pick out grammatical errors, cap. errors, sentence structure, etc. Oh yes, I do! I have always done that and think it's so funny that I just automatically do this. I'm feeling that perhaps I could earn a bit of money picking out and fixing the mistakes I read. I just need some help in getting started in a possible profession that I should have been doing a long time ago.

It drives me a little crazy when I find them because I want to automatically fix it, not to mention that it can potentially jar the reader out of the fiction world. I would love to spend my day proofreading because it would allow me to do something I already enjoy so much. I grew up with my mom and I called her a walking, talking dictionary because if I didn't know a word, she would be able to help me just as well as Google can these days. Any tips for me as a beginner are welcome, because I am interested in making this my stay at home job. I'm highly antisocial, so it would fit me perfectly.

Editing/copyediting is NOT the same as proofreading. The Proofread Anywhere free class explains this.

I definitely would like to start doing this! I find it hard to not correct spelling and grammar errors on posts that I see in my Facebook feed by leaving a comment!

Thank you for sharing! I am one of those people that finds mistakes easily in most everything I read. How do you determine which company to start with and what type of assignments to accept as a beginner?

Yes, always finding those spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. I was a medical transcriptionist for 25 years. I would love a job like this.

Yes especially when I am reading recipes. Once I got through the whole thing and there was not any measurements! How frustrating was that.

A lot of times what I'll notice is an incorrect duplication of a word, like "and and," where it's clearly not an intentional choice (in the wonderfully weird ways English can be sometimes). Other times, it'll be "his" or "is" when the opposite is what was meant to be written.
