Together with the 12 Major scale warm Up, this is a great tool to practice. I will start now to play both at the same practice session (although for the beginning now only up to 3 sharps and flats). I put the metronome to 90 Bpm and try to play them without music sheet in this order: major scale, minor scale, pentatonic major, pentatonic minor, blues scale. Going up and down the whole range of the sax. When I can play these first 7 scales by memory without fault I will add more scales later on. Greetings from amazingThailand Marco

Hi Marco! Sounds like a good plan!
@marcowenzel88892 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineSaxAcademy Yeah, I am 65 now and I wish I had done this 40 years ago, when I started to play saxophone:practicing with system. I never practiced scales and never with a metronome. I had no idea about music theory, pentatonic, blues and so on. My reading of music sheets is still very poor. But at that time I had no teacher, I was travelling as electronic Engineer for a big german Company all over the world for customer support. I bought the saxophone mainly to have something to do in all these strange countries (among them Saudi and Libya) when I was not working and to keep me off only hanging around in bars in my free time. In fact, I only started around 2 years ago to practice dayly and systematically and now for at least 3 hours every day. It is so exiting nowadays with all these good saxophone lessons on internet (like your's). Since almost 9 years I am retired and live in Thailand now, great country, good food, super weather and the most important: nice people. All the best to you, your students and cheers from Thailand Marco

Love the video. Thanks for a great warm up. The only critique is to have the scale up on the video about one or two seconds prior playing it. I was missing the first couple of notes of each scale because I didn't know what was coming next.

You are the first person ever to explain simply the Cmaj and Amin by moving the A to the root position. Does the same apply to all the other scales please? Mind you I suppose I could work it out for myself.
@OnlineSaxAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shirley! Yes this will apply to all major to minor scales. The 6th note of the major scale is the root note of the relative minor

@@OnlineSaxAcademy you can also count back 4 semitones yes/no?
@OnlineSaxAcademy2 жыл бұрын
@waterhen. It’s normally taught that you count back 3 semi tones because you don’t count the note your starting on, think of it as 3 moves down, but if you count your starting note as 1 then it would be 4

This took me about an hour Started off using the notes on the screen (I paused video on tv) then expanded the range as far as I could go Its probably me but I have a bad habit of musical wandering off on a scale when a tune comes into my head. So 5 mins = 1hr Had to stop to give my chops a rest All in all I like this and will try to cut down to 10mins Cheers 👍

Exelelent video, but!, you need to write de armony for more clarity and relationate the single scale with the chord progretion....that is the secret, not onlt the simple sacale
@OnlineSaxAcademyКүн бұрын
Thanks, I find that that is too advanced for most people who are just learning these scales for the first time. I do have more advanced specific lessons about chord/scale theory but that wasn’t the goal of this lesson where these backing tracks mostly to make practice more fun.
