I began with VIPKid in 2016. I resumed with VIPTeacher in August 2023. I've been consistently my version of fully booked. I'm a tier 10 and my average hourly rate at the end of the month is right at $19 an hour, this includes incentives and is before taxes. I'm okay with that. I had forgotten how EASY teaching with them is. Like, it's no effort. I'm enjoying the $700 a month. Yes, I make more per hour elsewhere for lots more effort. I just came back after a break and no bookings so far! I started in 2017 and used to be fully booked up until I took a break. Any suggestions for getting booked again? I've done all the standard things such as updating my video/profile, opened slots, and got all the certifications. Any other ideas or things that helped you? Or did you get booked right away again?

Hey Tim!! As always, thanks for the video content. I got the email back in November 2023 to open up slots, so I did. I’ve been teaching regularly since then. Fully booked from Mon-Fri 7am-10am EST. I reduced my in school teaching this year, so this nicely fills the gap. 😊

I just started back after 3.5 years full time with VIPKid and leaving in August 2021. I'm not expecting to do more than weekend evenings, but it's so great to have a side gig ready to go that feels like home (plus a tax deduction!). I'm in tier 10 and things are booking up, but I wish we could use a practice classroom to check our tech before class starts.

I finally started opening up 60 hours a week after giving up over a year or more ago because of your video. But after many weeks it has been very little bookings like 1 or 2 and only on the weekend so there isn't many students still it seems and yes I am certified in tons of it all.

Agreed. I was on Korean platform, fully booked even after China crash. So we were suddenly switched to global platfirm and I have had about 1 booking a week ever since. I am certified for literally everything. Admittedly, i have not opened many slots.

After being with Cambly for a number of years, they ended the contracts for teachers and New Jersey so I tried to do what you did with VIP I even signed up to be a substitute and I got nothing. It’s been a number of weeks. I’ll go back and I’ll try again, but in the meantime, I’ve been supplementing with Delivery apps until I can get a bigger student population. It’s tough out here but I’m doing what I can to avoid the W-2. I left the corporate hustle and bustle back in 2019 and I don’t want to go back lol

So funny….I think I started vipkid in 2017 and stopped around when you did. Just a couple weeks ago i also checked into getting back into it. I did some new certs and could change some but not all things. I hadn’t😢 caught on to the ideA of always signing new contracts but not opening up slots so now I guess until they really open up to new teachers I don’t have a chance! I still miss it soooo much! I do not want to do independent teachers, but I do watch what you send out Tim, mostly because you remind me of the good ol days!

If you can still get onto your teaching account you should send a ticket and they might be able to send you a new contract, I just got one sent today after about 3 years of not teaching with them nor continuously updating my contracts, its worth a try if you have done it yet!

I’ve been teaching 3 days per week M-W-F. I’m getting 20-30 classes from those days. Now with the kiddos out for summer I am opening nights and getting bookings. I have a few adults in my classes but they really like taking their classes on weekends. I work with 2 other companies, so it’s a good side income.

I started back two months ago and have been getting usually around 4 class per weekday minimum. July was more than august. All students I teach have been traveling so I’m thinking it’s just slower more. School starts back sept 1. Fingers crossed it gets super busy for everyone then. I have a masters in international education and use to live in China for 4 years.

Yes, things are always slower in the summer , it will most likely pick up in the fall.

What’s odd is I didn’t know until today it changed to VIP teacher. Just a couple weeks ago I went to the old VIP Kid website and scheduled a live demo to apply to teach. My live demo is supposed to be tomorrow! But what’s also strange is that I haven’t received any information about what I need to do in my live demo as far as materials, lesson, etc. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do, so I’m wondering if it will be more like an interview?

Are you a new VIPTeacher or did you used to teach for VIPKid? If you used o teach then you don't need to do a demo, just make sure you have an active contract and you can teach. If you are a new VIPTeacher then you need to apply on the VIPTeacher website. If you go to the old VIPKid website you will be directed to the VIPTeacher site. You will have gotten or should have an email (check spam) with all the details. Its a demo lesson.

I was happy to get back on too thinking that I would get at least half of the bookings I once got but it was crickets for me too. I did recertify on a lot of things. So far I've taught reading classes to teens and adults. I wanted to learn more about the job board. I've tried to sign up for a few of those but the pay is just the same. It's not different. I really was hoping that VK would supplement me with steady income while I got my independent teaching going. I stopped trying to teach on it for a while.

I would say, try opening odd hour classes to start. The students are there but its slow to start after being gone for a while. Weekends will be good too and certainly summer time approaching.

I was rejected when I tried years ago. I am going to try again. I have a Macbook now and hope they offer the online tools to teach with which is a weight lifted. I am concerned about the pay as well. Are you now teaching kids overseas on your own?

Good luck! They only hire from US/Canada, so if you are eligible to work there, go for it! I have my own students, yes.

Yes, she is from China. I think 90% of their students are in China. I mean, all my private students are in China. VIPTeacher isn't based in China anymore. Most online ESL companies are full of chinese students and I guess parents can make those decisions to have classes or not. Its illegal for companies to operate in China still though.

I reopened my slots around mid-March and got booked within several days. I now teach about 10-15 hours/week. It's the beginning of June and I am noticing fewer bookings, but I believe it's because it's now Summer. The lessons have changed but it's still very familiar! I also teach with Lingostar and I'm not a fan. I don't like how their classroom is set up, but their lessons are nice. I had a recurring student for a while, but she has since canceled. I got hired to teach with Lingostart around the same time I reopened my VIP slots and I'm getting way more bookings with VIPTEACH.

Its $7. I carry over my tiered bonus structure from the old VIPKid and I get an extra 0.80 per class from that. The more you teach, the more you get, but it doesn't go much over $8 / class (25 min)
