A herd of elk were seen running to avoid waves at high tide in Cannon Beach, Oregon, on January 10.
Eric Brough captured this footage while staying at a motel near the water.
In the footage, Brough can be heard telling his wife to come out and see the animals.
The video shows elk running across the sand right in front of Brough. They can be seen trying to steer clear of waves coming in several directions before continuing onward.

In Oregon it is law that the entire coastline is open to the public. So while those houses/motels are close to shore there is still a beach open to the public between them and the water.

Animals definitely have an awareness that humans don’t have. I’ve seen it first hand when I was in Thailand during the tsunami the day after Christmas 2004. All of the dogs and cats started freakin out and running and a few minutes later we got hit with a Huge wave. Luckily I was on a motorcycle and not right on the beach, so I was able to get away but many were not so lucky. That tsunami took the lives of approximately a quarter million people and it would have been a lot worse if it wasn’t the day after Christmas because there would’ve been a lot more people out and about.

hunting elk has opened my eyes to these amazing animals. That may seem like a oxymoron, but it is not. I have watched elk for hours (one day 11hours watching the same heard, slowly making their way through the burn (from Missionary Ridge fire in 2002) and the pine trees to my location); huge heard of 80+ elk. Daughter and I watched a heard of about 70+ last season and eventually got a shot at a bull. Always fascinating to see huge herd like that. The cows run the show. the bulls are scared as shit, generally hang back or stay surrounded, as in this video, allowing the eldest cow to lead the herd to safety. Cows "mew" and to hear a herd doing this is quite beautiful, there is an elegance to elk. Bull subtle and it's scary as fuck if up close. They are such hardy, super strong creatures and can climb an almost vertical hillside. Hunting ek out my front door has been one of the greatest experiences I've shared with friends and family. It's an adventure my wife and I share yearly. We hunt together. Stalking, coordinating, and many times seeing the elk run off to live another day. We don't mind, we love elk. We also do not buy meat from the grocery store, we process our elk as a family; making sausage, burger, steaks, fajitas, jerky, etc. It's a long weekend to process (think butchering) four quarters of elk. amazing creatures and their meat is the healthiest one can eat... almost zero fat. one usually adds pork fat to the ground elk simply to make it easier to cook. cheerio.

This was a case of elk being almost trapped by the tide. Animals do sense, indeed, when earthquakes are about to occur. Sometimes they do it weeks in advance, other times minutes or only seconds before. Earthquakes do release a significant amount of energy, and animals are a lot more sensitive to that than current humans are.

Ginger, your incredibly gorgeous /handsome horse is awesome, such a beautiful beauty! Please give him /her lots of hugs and kisses for me, I just love animals! Thank you! My brother has 2 quarter horses, 1 is a buckskin /dunn and the other is a bay and they smell so good, I just love the scent of horses, it's just so manly! 😍🐎 😚🐎 😙🐎

@@didibolter9362 idk how you see my horse but he is beautiful and the smell. You say it’s manly? I say it’s horsey. Even their breath smells horsey. You can bathe it away but it comes back. I love sitting quietly in the barn at night and listen to the munching sound of horses eating hay. I see, you saw the horse on my icon. She was a half draft and half quarter horse/paint. Like riding a sofa, her gaits were smooth and easy. If she cantered it wasn’t far, for me. Once all 11 horses left the field, took the highway a half mile to a dairy farm they all went into. The farmer jumped his 4 wheeler and ushered them home thru the back fields. He reported that my horse Pi came thundering to the front and passed the 4 wheeler leading them all back. She had a barn accident and had to sadly be sent over the rainbow bridge. My horse right now is a mini stallion. Mostly white with dark spots that are a roan color. Black, brown, tan, grey all mixed up. It’s like blue roan and red roan mixed together. He is trained to drive. I have a small two wheeled cart and harness for him. Last night he was all wound up. Pacing around and looking intently into the dark. Stallions can smell mares from far away. I think a neighbor has mares....he’s an old guy maybe 18. I got him at an auction. He was very fearful and it took a long time to get him to settle. At that time Pi was still with us. She has a field mate a buckskin Morgan horse. Her name is Millie. She was called Milly the silly filly. I gave her to a friend who has Morgan’s, after Pi was gone she became severely barn bound and wouldn’t leave the barn. Now she gets put in a trailer, taken to a state park and ridden very nicely there. It made the trailer ‘home’ and eliminated Millies problem.

@@gingercox6468 Oh Ginger, I am so extremely sorry to hear about your horse PI, such a horrible shame, I feel for you. My brother's horse was kicked by my dad's horse and he had to be sent to the Rainbow bridge too, that is such a hard thing to do but, sometimes it's the only thing that a person can do. Your mini stallion sounds delightful and precious! Please give him my love, I absolutely love all animals. My family has always had animals, cat, dogs, horses, cows and even ducks. My dad would come home from work and our ducks, "Hank", "Henry" and "Junior" would be let out of their area and dad would call then and they'd go running and waddling as fast as they could go towards my dad because dad always fed them slugs. Hank, Henry and Junior would get so full that they couldn't even get another slug down their slimey little throats, it's a gross story but, indeed a true story. I hope that I didn't gross you out too much my friend! Well, thank you for answering my story with your story, be safe and healthy, take care!

@0:41 shows why the current is so dangerous on the coast. Watch how fast the water comes in, it would easily knock someone off their feet, there's riptide currents too. It will drag people out into the ocean, they can't escape it and drown. Watch how fast the water rises.
