Tech KZbinrs should look at FR graphs more and learn how to interpret them. There's so much you can tell about a headphone from that. For now mainstream videos keep focusing on "features". It's fine if you only care about your ancs and connectivity but sound is still immensely important for a lot of people. Hope the recent emergence of the chi-fi market and maybe Linus getting a proper headphone dummy might change how consumers and manufacturers approach sound quality.

FR graphs are like looking at a 2D picture of a place without actually being there. 🤔 Can be useful but far from adequate in terms of assessing sound quality.

@@aaronloudnwireless Some 'extremists' claim it's all you need to assess a transducer's performance and everything can be found there, including 'intangibles' such as resolution, imaging or staging. Some others are still speculating where to find those. I'm far too incompetent to take sides or claim one should decide their preference based on a graph completely. Your ears are unique and as such they should have the final say but then so are reviewers' who hear things differently. This is why an objective granular graph is the next best thing to testing equipment yourself. For me personally, since I learned a little about FR and different targets I've been able to understand my own tastes better and make much better informed purchasing decisions. Good job on bringing up the topic. People could really use some of that knowledge.

At the same time, relying only on the graph can be deceptive. You really need to put the buds on and listen to music. Wear comfort, how well they seal in ears, warmth of sound, soundstage, depth, overall integrity, etc are not shown on the graph. It only shows the sound signature of frequency.

I'm a sound nerd, I have tried the Sony's, Bose, Senheiserner, you name it (I also have returned a bunch of them😆) and my number 1 headphones for sound is the JBL Tour ONE, my only complaint is not too much bass, also a headphone can have the best sound ever but if is for example, too bulky, or drivers are right on my earhole I will get fatigue quick, is just many factors in the end, comfort, execution from manufacturer and the person.

What's your opinion about harmonics. With responses above 35 or 40 kHz?
@aaronloudnwireless Жыл бұрын
Even if it's in the recording and fed through the right medium, it needs to be a whole body experience to feel visceral, not just fed through headphones.
@nicolasbouhier2924 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronloudnwireless I basically use HiFi loudspeakers _ I'm 25 oops 😜 - and headphones only on travel or at work, so even without hi-res label I prefer "natural listening". But you didn't mention it despite it works (on details I agree) but some people just don't believe it's possible because it's above human capacity on paper.
@aaronloudnwireless Жыл бұрын
@@nicolasbouhier2924 that’s beyond the scope of this video. Humans can perceive harmonics in those frequencies but not really through the ears. It’s felt through bone conduction.

Probably worth noting also that the dB axis is actually compressed as the decibel scale is logarithmic, so small differences in the chart can actually mean meaningful changes in audible gain (sound / volume).

Where is like Sibilance located? I've had pairs like the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro that sounded great but they had such high sibilance that I ended up getting rid of them because I couldn't get rid of the Sibilance without losing the clarity? Or is that something that can't be fixed with the EQ band and needs to be done with the manufacturer?

Just one question? Why to the hell sony oled tv's like my bravia xr-55a80j just use the basic audio codec SBC? It's ridiculous for sony. LDAC is just marketing? My wh1000xm4 can use only this codec figured it out with the app Bluetooth codec changer app for Android. The only who use LDAC for TV, Box or Stick is the firestick what I know. It's a shame for sony. May be you can make it as a topic. Movies need best quality sound also. Right?
@aaronloudnwireless Жыл бұрын
LDAC is an overkill for built in TV speakers. For TVs you'll be looking out for what formats it decodes like Dolby Atmos or DTS X
@pakinoGC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your quick answer! But it's not possible to use the ldac only through Bluetooth? Like the firestick?
@pakinoGC Жыл бұрын
Or it makes no difference between ldac and sbc and all the movie audio formats with Bluetooth headsets like my wh1000xm4? I think the higher compression with SBC makes the sound worse!?
@aaronloudnwireless Жыл бұрын
Anything over Bluetooth is in 2-CH stereo, and LDAC won't make much of a diff for movies. It's more of a music-centered codec

You're the first person I've heard to acknowledge the drop off in some frequencies is deliberate. What you describe as airyness, I would describe as a more definitive seperation between mids & highs helping the headphones/speakers sound like they have a seperate tweeter. I prefer the sound of my friends Harman Kardon bluetooth speaker to my JBL Boombox. I was able to measure the sound curve for each and use an equaliser (with many bands) to match my Boombox curve with the Harman Kardon. My boombox sounds almost exactly the same as the Harman Kardon now by introducing some of those deliberate dips. It would be interesting to know if the more airy sounding devices all drop off at the same frequencies.

I can't say for sure that they all do, depends on the hardware's default coloration 🤔
