Thank you. I ran down a different path. I turned 500 into 5^3*2^2 and 250 into 5^3 * 2... Then I stumbled and didn't make (5^3)^250 into 5^750... ...

pretty silly problem. just start with an example: say 6^8 / 3^4 and work it out by hand. Then apply steps to larger problem. Takes about 3 minutes

Brooo you messed up so much in the second problem, got it right but took you so long.... just define t=x², solve for t using the quadratic equation, and finally find x=√t. It would have been so much quicker and cleaner, and it works with any equation of that form, without the need for a nice number like 20=16+4.
