Gosling hardly changes his facial expressions throughout. Very lazy- body & facial expression are key for good acting. Although sure, it's very aesthetically pleasing. But that's hardly enough to make a film *good*. I think it certainly appeals to hipsters who want to look 'special' by having interest in quirky, less-mainstream films. Where's the substance though?

Please don't consider me to be a hipster for this buuuut. After watching it a first time and feeling underwhelmed I went and looked into the meaning of it all a little deeper. After watching a few fan theory videos and going back to it I appreciated it and enjoyed it so much more. *Spoilers* - The Police chief is God, the sword is his judgment for the sins of the people. There's loads more to it and other theories that are entertaining. 8/10 for this movie for me.

Attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. You can't be ambiguously pretentious because that eliminates the ambiguity. It was just an art house flick, reminds me of lynch films in a way. It was visceral, great at building tension, and it makes you crave catharsis but there is none.
