Even before Putin announced the start of a full-scale war at four o'clock in the morning, the Russian military crossed the border with Ukraine. The first fallen border guard was 35-year-old Denys Tkach. He was the head of the border post in the village of Zorynivka in the Luhansk region.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., the Russian military opened fire on him.
Our journalist Maryana Pietsukh spoke with Denys's brother, who was on shift with him on the night of February 24, and his wife Oksana, who went to the border to pick up her husband's body. See the story of the first dead border guard since the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war.
