As someone who's held a M/cycle license for 55 years and come off eleven times (so far) I'd recommend that you adopt a slightly more defensive style of driving in traffic, i know these cams with their wide-angle lenses give the impression of a faster speed but it appears that you over-commit yourself a little too often and the odds are against you getting away with it indefinitely.. someone WILL open a car door on you one day that's a certainty, probably a passenger impatient to get to their office a hundred yds down the road. "I'll just jump out here"...

01:05 That taxi just commited a motoring offence under dangerous driving law. Highway code" you may NOT proceed if a person is on the crossing or attempting to use the crossing". With flashing ambers you cant go anyway unless people are well clear!
@TheMcal99096 жыл бұрын
IF everyone followed the highway code in London no one would get anywhere.. You have to drive aggressive in most areas. Like the Bus that pulled out on him. That would be sat there for 20mins before getting a space to pull out.
@MrTemjin6 жыл бұрын
To be fair, until you have ridden in London, you dont really understand what a jungle it is. Want to get home? You need to ignore quite a few rules. Even police will close their eyes to 90% of the offences as long is its not dangerous driving or life threatening.
@TheMcal99096 жыл бұрын
Although its a fine line between the two, i think there is a difference between aggressive driving and breaking the law. If you would like to get technical yes rules were broken. But what was done most people will find it acceptable to do.
@nonenone38986 жыл бұрын
The highway code is simply that a set of codes NOT rules. they are suggestions on how to drive. If you break the code and an accident results the highway code breach could be used to demonstrate you were not using best practice when the accident happened.

Actually ,despite your head shaking,the bus was perfectly within his rights to continue Highway code rule 223 "Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely"It is also a much ignored rule that buses have priority when leaving a bus stop.You saw him a good 150 yards away,so had enough time to ease off and let him out. Must admit i wonder what goes through the minds of these idiot pedestrians.Are they really that important that they can't wait a few seconds for the crossing lights to change?`
@MrTemjin6 жыл бұрын
WIth the bus, I do believe the HighWay code rule 223 applies when moving off from a bus stop. Not even an emergency vehicle is able to cross an intersection without making sure it is clear. But you are right, I did see him and I did stop for him to get out. Not here to defend pedestrians, but as a pedestrian myself sometimes, traffic lights and crosswalks in London are completely random sometimes ahah
@ynotnilknarf396 жыл бұрын
I wonder what goes through idiotic motorists who think their journey can't wait a few seconds at the cost of safety of vulnerable road users. The lights are not obligatory for pedestrians and they have priority at all times.

And you think these morons should risk their lives in heavy traffic to prove what point?I would have thought common sense would dictate the red/green light system might be in place for a reason.Perhaps their super skinny latte couldn't possibly wait a few seconds,and running in front of traffic is really that important.As i said,idiots.

@davidbarlow3506 жыл бұрын
Ah,another self-righteous do-gooder.I suggest you climb down off your high horse and read The Highway Code relating to Pelican crossings.Anyone who is stupid enough to jump out in front of a moving car gets what they deserve. I don't drive on pavements hunting them down,and i don't recall anywhere saying i don't give a fuck about pedestrians.I don't give a fuck for selfish idiots who think it's their God given right to simply walk into the road risking their own lives and possibly others while so self-absorbed that it is they who don't give a fuck. A car/truck /bicycle or motorcycle cannot stop instantly and it's about time these fools realised it.By the way,although i drive a car,i'm also a pedestrian,only i'm not so sanctimonious about it as you are,and i manage to not jump out in front of moving traffic.i think it used to be called common-sense.Alas not,as you've demonstrated.at all common anymore.

It's pefectly legal and makes commonsense, it reduces the lines of traffic thus people get to destination quicker.
@AnotherHerring5 жыл бұрын
It's all legal. In general, the advice is to keep to within about 10mph of the traffic speed (so 10 mph through stationary traffic, 15-20 if it's just rolling along). There are a few places where he went that I wouldn't (now, did on a pushbike when I was younger and dafter), particularly the one between bus and big truck (nowhere to escape to if one or other starts moving and closing the gap). Also you need to be aware that pedestrians can (equally legally) be crossing the road and therefore be very careful when your sightlines are obstructed.

Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Is riding between autos legal there. In Florida and other states in US it is not because it is so dangerous. There is a blind spot where a semi truck can be hidden, something my father explained to me when I was first learning to drive. The next day I found that he was right. A motorcycle would be invisible in the blind spot.

Lane filtering is legal in the uk.

MrTemjin Thanks. Love the name, Lane Filtering. Those wavy lines make me dizzy... Now, let’s consider blind spots. When I was first driving my father explained clearly about the blind spot in the passenger side window and how I should turn my head to check what’s there. The next day, just before I moved over into the right lane I did just that and darned if there wasn’t a semi-truck and trailer riding in it. He was right. OK, if a semi-trailer truck can be hidden in the blind spot, a bike or motorcycle has no chance of being seen and so this riding is extremely dangerous as seen in the video. Governments should outlaw it all together and the two wheeler should follow the vehicle ahead just as a car would not just for the safety of the rider but for the future peace of mind of the driver who might kill a rider. These riders are out of control, dangerous and obviously feel they are above the law and need not wait nor be safe. The common thread in these types of posts are that the bicyclist is god and the drivers are idiots but the videos invariably show the riders to be suicidal and incompetent.

Some of those lane gaps I might need bigger balls to do - like the bus and semi trailer one... but i guess it's better when you're actually doing it as opposed to watching it, better view of the gap distances.. Either that or you're dragging some big ole brass ones around!

It looks worse than it actually is, believe me there are some gaps where I stop for a few seconds and calculate if I can go through or if traffic will start moving before I manage to squeeze in, most of the times I will never risk it.

Jack Rodgers When I lived and worked in London years ago now, I only had one mishap while filtering. I was stationary at the time and a coach moved across in the lane I had been filtering in. The back of the coach swung across and I ended up on the bonnet of the car next to me! The coach drove off. Someone else saw this, chased after the coach and forced it to halt then gave the driver a good telling off! During the last few years before emigrating I rode an MZ TS250/1 that I had adapted for city riding. It had very narrow handlebars and the mirror was positioned so I could see behind me over my shoulder. A TLS front brake from a Honda was fitted and the electrics up graded to 12V. One day the trains, buses and Underground were all out on strike and the roads were near gridlocked. That day my 23 mile ride took about 10-15 minutes longer than usual to get to Whitehall. Only one other of my colleagues got in that day!

Wonder how many bikers get killed squeeze in and out of lanes cos they can't take there turn on the road like everyone else
@MrTemjin6 жыл бұрын
Probably a lot less than the ones rear ended by phone using or simply distracted car drivers.
@patrickrutter47626 жыл бұрын
that's why they get knocked off there bikes in and out of traffic. if they stuck to the highway code you are not allowed to undertake .!!!!!!!!!!!
@nolhrt6 жыл бұрын
Hardly any. It's exactly why bikes are better in traffic. It just irritates car drivers imprisoned in their cars.

Huge Jobbie Someone on their bike filtering is one person that is not in the lane in front of you wasting your time, be grateful, try to find the positive in every situation ;)

"Bikers can legally filter between lanes in the UK, cars cannot. They do not have to take their turn." There's talk of cyclists being allowed to sensibly run red lights here as they can in some other countries. Makes sense to me - all vehicles are not the same.

That's THE WORST font for video captions. WTF were you thinking? I'm a fast reader, but on a mobile phone I literally had to stop the vid to read every one, and even then some were unreadable. Eventually have up. Try thinking about the viewer.
@MrTemjin6 жыл бұрын
I cannot think about the viewer, when the viewer doesnt give feedback. I probably had half a million + views and noone has ever told me about the font being bad. I had two comments on this video about that (including yours), so Ill take it on board and change the font for something clearer, and im not being ironic, I do appreciate the feedback, in the end these videos are for you and the others viewers, thank you.

MrTemjin you wrote: "I cannot think about the viewer, when the viewer doesnt give feedback." Try testing your vids on small devices. It's not easy to get right. Dark script works on light backgrounds but fails on dark backgrounds, and vice versa. " I probably had half a million + views and noone has ever told me about the font being bad." That suggests to me that most people aren't really paying attention to the on screen captions. " I had two comments on this video about that (including yours), so Ill take it on board and change the font for something clearer, and im not being ironic, I do appreciate the feedback, in the end these videos are for you and the others viewers, thank you." That's a great response bro. Much appreciated. I was hoping to help. It's great that you took it that way. I'm impatient when I confront inadequate communications. As a self trained graphic designer, I've always put a lot of effort into making text clear and readable. It's a process. Except for their use of grey type, Apple's ads are by far the best in this regard. Their late '90s and early 2000s ads are the best though. Good luck with your rework.

You were lucky that copper didn't pinch you for sitting in the cycle box at the lights - if memory serves that's a £100 fine and three points.

It will always depend, you can sit in the cycle box if you can't stop in time. Other than that, you might be right, but to be honest its the safest place to be.

I'd love to ride around London but do not understand the rules of the road there. I would get squashed.
