The life of a torp DD main is in a word intuition. It doesn't always work out, but the life mission is getting into the heads of the enemy. A totally different mindset than a gun DD main.

i feel like "not doing anything" in a torp boat is actually the trick you need to master, staying in concealment, position and spoting consistently does take some skill. It definitely implies reducing greed to wait for the later part of the game when you get much more powerful, that is if you know where enemy gunboats are. I think the tough part about these ships is staying and healthy until the late game.

I like how you explain your thought process. As someone who doesn't play BBs or Torpedo focused DDs, I would never have thought to look at where the enemy BBs guns are pointed to help with my torpedo lead

If you're doing PVE particularly Co-op go for the A build. It's 76 seconds to reload torps vs 109 on the B build. When to use the 30 second reload depends on circumstances, often times you won't need to use it. Both the Monaghan and Farragut are fun to play and are about equal, they're the best DD's at tier 6 Long range torps are not as big a deal in PVE because most battles are knife fights. Bots are expert at dodging torps so I try to be 2.5 kilometers or less before launching. You can hit an occasional long shot if the bots are in a travel mode but remember on an all human team the challenge is often for your torps to hit it before your teammates sink it.

Aggro 'A' Hull is the way to play this one imho. If you want a hard hitting torp boat with minimal guns just play Hatsuharu, at least you'll have decent concealment.

I adore that little turd. T6 with T8 torps AND a reload booster? I don't play it super often since T6, but whenever I get red credit boosters my Monag gets to be the one to eat them, always. Very well played PQ though it was a torp boat. Patience, staying concealed and prediting the moves are key for a torp boat. I agree, thats the essentials. It plays more in your head. Sitting in smoke and farm is kid of boring, though.

I sank a sub with a torp last week while aiming at another ship. Feels very good. (WOWS gameplay for DDs against subs is FUBAR, but getting better, you sink them with guns instead of depth charges, LOL) I like RPF you can plan your torp targets and know which direction a gunboat DD hunting you may be coming from. Best torp targets are ships going somewhere on the map with you on the flank. The B hull Monaghan gets more torp tubes and more mid range AA. But if you get spotted and have to run you can't shoot back very easily. There was a new DD released that only had two turrets forward but they were twins, and it;s a higher tier ship.

I remember back before the Soviet DD split. The Kiev was the only DD in the entire game to have a secondary gun. This was before commander rework as well. I actually remember trying to do a secondary build with it and rarely got a hit unsurprisingly. I always wanted to at least get 1 kill with it. Not sure if you've done it. But you should try giving Giuseppe Verdi Secondary build a try. Not sure if you own it or not. But some of the most broken fun I've had. I absolutely popping smoke and sailing straight through the enemies lines. Both sides of my ship lighting up. The enemy DD's never seem to understand that you don't need that little white line to guide you to be able to fire your torps.
