two different companies wanted over 10000 to replace our windows in our 100 year old, two story farmhouse. (this was with the lowest quality windows they offered, this was also in January 2020) We built a tiny house in the backyard instead lol! thanks for the video Jimmy, have a fantastic day!

Speaking of heated seats, we test drove a Honda mini van back in the day during the summer. My wife put her purse on the floor and it hit my seat heater button and turned it on hi. After about 4 minutes my back was wet. I said something is wrong with this seat! Had a good laugh at that one!

One of the main problems that I have with an older vehicle is using it as a daily driver. If they break down your walking. If you have an old vehicle as a hobby it can be fun like your 62.

Thanks for the video Jimmy! I'm a strong supporter of the Right to Repair, I spend a lot of time thinking about how cars, electronics, power tools etc fail. I really am not a fan of modern complications that add nothing to the owner but give a manufacturer a public relations talking point or tick a meaningless box for marketing. Compulsory start-stop is one, low tension rings that lead to oil burning and dead engines are another. I'm glad we don't have TPMS as standard in Australia too. I'd love to see some regulations that make manufacturers release engineering drawings and repair information and software after say 15 years.

I fear I will eventually. It won’t roll, the brakes are locked up. Customer says no rush, so it will likely sit until there is a day with NOTHiNG to do. :)

@@JimmyMakingitwork I owed a 1979 924 many years ago. It's 90 percent VW including the brakes so it won't be a problem finding parts or to repair. I know-----famous last words! Lol

As soon as venture capitalists and corporate management come in it usually does go to crap. Seen it too many times. They implement their “measurement statistics” and methods and wonder why your productivity has went down. Just get out of my way and let me work and make everyone money! SMH

Are a lot of independent shops flat rate? I thought FR was mostly a model in dealerships.

Most are flat rate, so when it’s slow they don’t need to pay you. But when it’s busy it keeps their margins where they want. Seems like FR or commission for most shops. Very few pay a salary since it seems to slow mechanics WAY down. :)

@ that is interesting. I manage a public utility in NYS and we employ 22 technicians. We are starting to hire new techs as some of our current ones move towards retirement . These are highly competitive jobs due to the high salary and benefits so I like review applicants and sit in during the interview process. I noticed during the interviews, the dealership techs top reasons for leaving is flat rate and warranty pay while most that work at independents cite not enough hourly pay/benefits. Appreciate your response!
