This was the best decision they took. Their suffering ended and they received the goobye as separate two individuals. They were good and pure from their heart. May their souls rest in peace. Ameen

Thank you to the team for trying, in addition to the headaches, the back and neck pain. The fear if one got worse ,how frightening. I am sorry they did not get the chance to see life as two free individuals. May they rest in peace, they were incredibly brave.

Two brave young women made the ultimate sacrifice, which enabled doctors to learn more about these types of surgery so that one day another set of siblings in a similar predicament may be saved. They got their wish to be separated. And I'm sure even after death they do not regret their decision. Kudos also to the brave doctor willing to perform this surgery amidst possible backlash.

A truer thought was never spoken. In the west our lives are blessed with technology and good health care and for which I am forever grateful but these women reached out to us from an undeveloped country and fought for their lives and although they were unsuccessful and this is so sad I'm sure that what was learnt by the awesome medical staff will help other people who faced with this awful challenge in their lives.

😥. How horribly sad. I cannot imagine losing a precious child. I had a miscarriage in 1990, I didn’t think that I would ever get over losing my baby. I got pregnant for my daughter then I almost lost her. I would have lost my mind had I lost her. I feel so bad for anyone who has lost a baby or even grown children. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. I hope who ever has lost a baby or son/Daughter that they have a great support system and they can heal from that horrible tragedy.

I remember them. I was at high school when this happened, and they were all around the news. I had to go to school on the day of the surgery, and there was no internet, no access to news. I’ll have to go back and watch the last half or less to find that out. Even in hindsight, the surgeons made the right decision. Mentally, those two young women wanted to be separated and never would have stopped trying to find a way. It would have consumed their lives. Physically, their brains and bodies were deteriorating due to being conjoined. They would have lived the rest of their lives in both mental and physical pain. This way, they died happy and full of hope. It is tremendously sad for those who loved them, but they are at peace. RIP beautiful Ladan and Laleh.

The government and people of of Singapore are to be commended for their generosity and humanity, and the medical team are above all truly magnificent human beings. They did everything following strict protocol and ethics, and as with any surgery, even minor procedures, there is the risk of serious complications and death. This medical team's work is to be applauded for the attention to detail they instigated before tackling surgery. There was no other choice for these girls to make, and they had to take the chance. Even if they had been born in a so-called developed country, surgery would have failed even if it had been attempted early in their lives. Theirs was a tragic medical condition that had no surgical solution. These girls taught humanity as a whole by their resilience and grace living with their situation, and that is the amazing legacy they left.

You don’t know that if they lived in a country in the U.S that the same outcome would have happened. Most opera😢toons on 4-5 year old twins are successful and theirs would also probably have been successful if it was done at an early age. I have seen young and completed conjoined Siamese twin cases like this and they normally come out alive. They only died most likely because it was done when they were 29 instead of 4 years old.

@@kaitlinschwarz3644 I agree that, if the surgery would’ve been done at an earlier age, it may have been successful. They pretty much said that in the video. However, Singapore is one of the leading medical pioneers in the world. In many ways, they are more advanced in procedures & equipment than the US. Some of our own doctors go there to learn these techniques & advancements. If you walked into their hospitals, you would be truly amazed at those advancements, as well as how they treat their patients there. They actually put care in Healthcare. It would be very arrogant to think that we are so much further ahead in the medical field than every place else in the world.

Not many people are born conjoined and while some can be separated without creating too much damage, some end up mutilated as they often share organs and limbs. The change is so radical, you really have to be conservative. If they desperately want to be separated, knowing they may die, you just have to try your best and go for it. They were old enough to make these decisions. It is harder to do it with little kids, on so many levels, physical and emotional, for all parties involved.

lina Nicolia see the thing with what you said is, doctors know when it is risky and life threatening and when it is a doable separation. But these women were Adamant on what they wanted, and as adults no one can force them not to go through with it. A doctor can choose not to perform it. But no one has to say no, when an adult wants what they want.

I admire their bravery to even consider separation after so many years being conjoined. Their courage and utter desperation to live independent lives, AT ANY COST, shown through this entire video...they made plans for their futures, they knew what they both wanted to achieve as far as education, careers, BUT THEIR MAIN GOAL WAS TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT EACH OTHER FACE TO FACE...FINALLY. Not once did either of these beautiful women say "oh I can't wait to be separate because I want to be rich, married, famous etc..." I believe that the people these two precious women knew, encountered, studied with, danced with, spoke with, laughed with and cried with are living better lives now just for the simple reason they were fortunate enough to call them their friends. I will never forget these brave women. Thank you Ladan and Laleh Bijani !!!!

The twins knew the risks and I think they would have rather both passed together in their dream, than to only have one survive or continue living the way they had been. People really don't know how much freedom they have when born with what we call normal. They tasted the need for independence and lived fully acting upon that...RIP ladies.

I admire them for the choice they made. I would have wanted to do the same thing. They were brave and I wish them peace and happiness where ever they are.

these two achieved so much in their lives. Imagine you have to manage to put up with someone 24/7 that close to you and somehow get along well together no matter what, even study. We can´t even begin to imagine what huge task that is.

I remember them. I was so scared for them and when i heard they passed it was honestly devastating. I kept regretting they did the operation but its clear why they felt the way they did. God comfort their family always

Very touching story..... struggles most people can never fully grasp. And, yet, the girls seemed so well-adjusted and down- to-earth. I fell right in love with them, 5 minutes into the video. R.I.P.

Tears flowed down my eyes watching this. I do understand their desire for independence. I would be very scared to see if one actually survived. After watching them, I think the survivor would go insane without having her other sister around. God bless both of these women.
