This is Tokyo’s newest tourist attraction, a recreated Edo village of food and tour buses, but is it any good? #tokyo MAP: maps.google.co...

@@onlyinjapanGO I wouldn't want to come all the way out just for a Konbini. That said, the Unagi wasn't too bad (assuming the portion size isn't ridiculously small), and maybe if you come as places start closing up, you'll get deals like the Tiger Prawn.

Thanks for the tour John! Might be visiting Toyosu next month to see what all the fuss is about. Also..I had no idea Lavista is from Hakodate. As a broke student in Hakodate vacation then I couldn't afford to go stay there until I revisited a few years later. Indeed one of the best hotel breakfast in Japan.

I visited the shops in 1st Jan, when it was still not opened. It was pretty unique blend of traditional aesthetics in the middle of futuristic Toyosu.

First reaction prices did not seem unreasonable. Bit elevated, but consider the experience and ambience. Besides it's together in one place. Nice episode enjoyed.
@onlyinjapanGO7 ай бұрын
Right, elevated but reasonable - but not good enough to get locals to visit. It’ll be tourists all the way, but location isn’t ideal. It’ll have to be the big draw which it isn’t.

Thanks, John, for the great tour. I like pausing the video so I can practice reading the menus. I will visit Chiba and Tokyo at the end of April, and I want to have hiragana and katakana mastered by then...

If I go to the TeamLabs Planets exhibit, then it makes sense to also come here. Is this open until late (after 5pm), or is it mainly in the morning like Tsukiji and Senso-ji? From what I've seen, most Street Food places (not including Izakaya) close relatively early.

Hi John. Loved this walking tour livestream showing us something fresh and new. A friend of mine just flew out to Japan today. I'll let her know to check this place out. Hopefully she'll have time. Do you feel that events like this will start to be far and few if the yen remains or becomes weaker and residents are unable to support these businesses?

This place looks really cool, and some prices might be a little pricey, but overall it doesn’t seem that bad. Especially considering that the world wide inflation. I’m really shocked when I watch videos of Japan with the food prices I just don’t even understand how some businesses can stay in business. I pay $15 for bowl of Ramen here in Florida. And I have no problem with it. I would imagine it would be about $10 in Japan, so when I see videos of Ramen for like four or five dollars it just blows my mind. Specially, with restaurants the profit margin usually is so slim.

John, these places need to be authentic to be 100% successful. Very difficult to achieve. Doesn’t help to be buried in amongst modern skyscrapers. You have so many skilled contemporary architects in Japan, let them get involved. Example look at the sensational work by Hiroshi Nakamura the Meditation Pavilion to the Toshogu Shrine Juyosho associated with Uneo Park.

It will be a struggle, there’s not much around here - Tsukiji is central and walking distance from Shinbashi and Ginza, Tokyo Station in 20 min of foot. This - is gonna rely on bus tour groups I think.

Well, if I were a tourist 😉 I’m not so it’s important for me to say “make up your own mind” and check it out for yourself. I think I showed it all - kind of cool but feels like it won’t last. Too isolated from other areas of the city, lack of accommodations and other attractions although they could make more here.
