What I see the style as is a perfect interpretation of androgyny. The white shirts are masculine, the black crop tops are feminine, but they range like in split seconds, especially with their dancing. It's really wild. I think the reason the last part after yoojungs last rap specifically hits so hard because the change from aggression into elegance is so sudden, and the song does the same. This is style wise very close to libido, with the highly distorted drums and artificial sounds (I don't know anything about instruments I'm sorry😂), and libido kinda did a thing a little similar, but this just went so much harder in that specific constant changing between feminine elegance and masculine aggression. Onlyoneof and their producers really found their styles and own it like a pro. Nobody does it like them. Also from what I've noticed, and this started in libido era, is that the members really grew on each other. They're incredibly confident and supportive to each other, and it shows in their art. They are really the perfect match as a group, and it's so powerful.

That's like one of OOO's major themes so i wasn't surprised to see such contrasts within the choreography. One of their most prevalent concepts can be summed up by one word : tension. As you pointed out, they've been for instance particularly exploring the tension between masculinity and feminity since their early days as a group (mainly through the lyrics of some songs and the choreographies, ex "dOra maar"). But their concept is also about showing how seemingly opposite notions can merge/combine/entertwine (within 1 person for instance, which links to the themes of androgyny, search of identity and self-discovery). Love that they keep exploring this as it's such an original and interesting concept, both visually and intellectually :)

@Man !!! honestly, I've been hardcore keeping up with them for about a year, and I know all their mvs and songs by heart😂 but every time I see their new stuff, my jaw still drops to the floor. Idk, they always take it a step further, explore new parts of their concepts, and imo they haven't repeated themselves ever. The coolest thing about ooo songs is that their songs always sound like the title since libido. Libido did exactly what the actual libido does. It drags you in and once you're even halfway in, you can't stop thinking about it, which is the main reason why it has been in my top 100 for two years in a row (in 2022 it was no 1). Skinz sounds like what it would look under the skin kinda, with random rushes or different hormones and tensions and nerves and ups and downs and all that stuff, still exploring the libido concept further, but in a complete different way (my legendary no2 in 2022). Gaslighting sounds like you're being gaslighted, and chrome arts so randomly just sound like what chrome is, in all its details. I feel like this is the main reason why ooo don't repeat themselves. Because their topics are always highly specific and they also pursue them with such detail.

@@personunknown7129 Can relate, it's a freakin mood but they do always surprise us every single time with their talent x'D you 2 said it all, OOO is really such a unique group. They're consistent with their musical identity and concepts, and keep experimenting with it at the same time. All the songs are linked with one another in some way, both in terms of musical similarities, stylistic patterns, notions and lyrics... so satisfying. Also love that the music they're making actually makes us lyOns and listeners in general reflect about the sound, MVs, lyrics, concepts, etc and debate about it. It makes us communicate more and exchange viewpoints and opinion, and it sparks such interesting conversations between us (not only about the songs or group but also about society, emotions, life in general, and many other topics)... this is exactly what art is and is meant to do towards us.

I feel like there is something so unique about this group. You kinda hit the nail on the head with the "experimental" part, they really lean in that direction and at this point is clear that they really plan on doing their own thing regardless of how the trends in kpop work

Yeah I understand how your original perspective of each member might have been shifted by this but in terms of their "team performance" formula this song and choreo actually very much fit it perfectly. Yoojung is a pretty soft fairy but he is also a strong dancer and very much fills the center role in this group as his biggest asset is his charisma while dancing. Ultimately their positions arent all that definite tho. After Love's departure from the group (who was their original leader and main vocalist) the positions honestly became very unclear for the rest of them. From the formula it looks like Junji and Rie are kind of the main vocalists with Nine getting some more vocal lines too but tbh they all sing and rap lmao. It is clear that Mill is main rapper but he sings a ton too. + originally Junji, Rie and Yoojung are also the dance line that works on their moves. KB used to be a second rapper but became everything his voice fits at the given moment lol. And that I think is what the group mostly does instead of following some pattern... they really divide parts by the voice that fits the part no matter your position and focus and the "formula" kind of showed itself organically as their songs are written and constructed in a similar on brand way. Also sound wise interesting distorted instrumentals + sultry melody and vocals are their bread and butter lmao. But you will ofc find other kind of sounds in their discography as well.

6:48 its funny you talk about it because their last two full group albums were all about instincts (albums are called instinct pt1 and pt2 and all of the songs in them, even bsides, tell stories based on things such as S. Chrome arts is a very OOO sound, industrial-experimental-distorted is one of its hallmarks (not the only one), many people don't love this, but many of us live for it. I hope you really liked it, I would like you to listen to skinz

this industrial sound is what i look forward from onlyoneof. It started from their instinct EP in 2021 with their title track "libidO." It's reminiscent of the genre EBM (Electronic Body Music) from the 80s and artists/bands like Nitzer Ebb, Nine Inch Nails, Orange Sector, etc. EBM is characterized by industrial "pots and pans" sounds with abrasive and gritty beats and aggressive vocals, with cyberpunk and provocative undertones. It's a sound that is pure, raw, uncontained energy. "EBM" tracks from OnlyOneOf are: libidO, skinz, beat, and chrOme arts. Hope they continue expanding into this sound because no one does it in kpop as far as i know.

i never thought about what it would be like for ppl who came to know ooo through their solos to dive into their group work for the first time but i really could not recommend them more. they have such fantastic music that i think you would really really enjoy

Yeah, they're underrated sensations. Of course they've got visual appeal down (shoutout to my fellow YooJung biases), but they're also phenomenal dancers, incredible artists, and really great at showing themselves (in more ways than one). You'll definitely want to see libidO in both the original and the guilty pleasure versions, and their amazing videos for sage, dOra maar, skinz with its dance practice (which should come with a mature content rating), and then they've also done a ton of covers, either by rerecording the song and dancing to it (dOlphin), or just dancing (Savage). And KB, despite being the oldest, never really came off as being fully leader-ish. If you didn't know, their group leader, Love, left sadly, which is a loss for the members in many ways because he really was a balancing force, which you'll probably see in the videos he's still in. Anyway, hope you can find more ways to enjoy them and give them love. They're absolutely wonderful.

There are a few videos on youtube that show the English lyrics. Overall, it talks about an everlasting connection using chromium, a rust-resisting metal, as a metaphor. The outfit and the lighting simulate the chrome art style in acid design. It is worthwhile to check out OnlyOneOf's other group work. Their concepts and performances are always spot on, and each song/performance has its unique charm.

I've barely dipped a toe into OOO so far, but everything I've heard is so distinct. I love it. They have a truly unique sound in most of what I've heard so far, and their concepts and visuals and awesome too. (Definitely not requests or suggestions I swear), but some of their other songs I play regularly are libidO, gaslighting and skinz, and they all feature that sort of lovely distorted sound I heard again in this. Their choreos are also very stylistically unique to them too, which I love.

yep it must feel super strange to get into their group work after watching just their solo work,but from their debut they always had that chill,sensual sound and it grew into (sorry for my language) just horny,industrial and experimental sound lmfao which is now what lyons expect from them and they do this kind of music the best in kpop its so unique to them also if you want to check more music from them as a group you can go in chronological order to see their improvements and how their sound develops which is so cool and also you can see "love" the seventh member which left the group about two years ago i think ( my favorite is their instinct pt2 album and the song "skinz" as their title track )

OOO are currently in Japan promoting chrOme arts. Whilst there, they are singing other group songs in their discography, going all the way back to dOra maar (in Japanese!!). Im glad you mention "instinct" bc they have a very unholy song named "libidO" as the title song of their album "Instinct pt. 1" (if there's a part 1 there is definitely a part 2). "libidO" and the entire 2 Instinct albums describe how love and lust taking parts in a human's life as well as they portrait different aspects or concepts related to the subject. For examples we have songs named "libidO", "gaslight" of "skinz" which by reading the names you can already tell the theme of their songs. OnlyOneOf has always been showing their mature charms for as long as they've been known for but I reckon since the album Instinct pt. 1, it's becoming another level. Especially in a gender neutral way.

Dunno if you heard some of their other songs already but here are some suggestions : - some MVs to start your journey : "skinz", "libidO", "sage", "savanna", "a sOng Of ice&fire"... - some performance videos/dance practices to see more of their beautiful choreographies : "gaslighting", "suit dance", "dOra maar", "bOss", "time leap"... - some b-sides to dive more into their sound : "designer", "byredO", "ultimate bliss", "fragile", "Off angel"... Also recommend you to check out the 6 solo songs of the "undergrOund idOl" project to get to see/hear more of each member individually :) Their concept actually encloses a lot of different notions, though most of them can be linked to these 2 general themes : "relationships" and "tension". Through their music, lyrics, choreos and MVs, OOO portrays all kinds of relationships, such as : romantic/erotic relationships (including queer relationships), relationship between human and god, relationship between artist and public/muse, relationship with oneself, ...
