Ferns have two live phases, Gametophyte and sporophyte phase. Gametophyte is the phase when the spores from mature fern sprouts and turn into tiny algae like structure(called prothallium) that have female and male reproduction organ (ferns can be hybridize at this phase). After self ferlitization (or even hybridization) the embryo will start the Sporophyte phase, it will grow big like the fern that we usually see.

@@onlyplants yeah, the green/pink contrast is so unvelievable. Generally speaking, the green of some Madagaskar plants is not seen on the typical houseplants. Some of my Pachypodiums have this intense dark green with a little copper like metallic depth. You should definitely have a look on the genus, especially brevicaule and its ssp. leucoxanthum as that one is easy to identify :)

Hello Sean, Cacti are succulents, but succulents are not automatically cacti. Succulents are plants which are able to store water in either their stems, leaves or roots. Therefore Cacti fall in this categorie of succulent plants. But Cacti have their own Family which is the Cactaceae and originally Cacti are only found on the American Continent. Worldwide there are many different Plant Families which can be called succulents but only one of those Families is the Cactaceae. And if it is not in the Cactaceae, it's not a cactus.

Hey Sean, I love your videos. I just have a small criticism. The font you use on your images is almost always unreadable and I have no idea what it says at thumbnail size until I have to zoom in or just read your title to try to work it out. You should use a less fancy font so viewers can instantly know what the text says. Anyway, hope you don't mind. Keep up the good work.

For Platycerum and other fern hybrids it's "simple". Each spore will give you a milimeter size plant looking like an algae or a liverwort (with half of the parent's DNA), and those tiny plants will release sperm cells to fertilise each other. A true fern will grow from the female part of those plantlets. So if you plant together different spores you will have a few hybrids.
@onlyplants2 жыл бұрын
Interesting… its like giving birth to children and having them fertilize each other incestuously 😅😅
@StalkerNaturaliste2 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants well all plants do that. Pollen is not the sperm cell, it's individual microscopic plants with half of the original DNA that will eventually produce sperm cell when touching the female flower. It's more like giving birth to autonomous testicles^^
