I'd love to train with Rogan. He seems like a great instructor who will tell you when something is good and tells you when it sucks. He is not into building up your ego, he is into building up your skill set. Why is he always out of breath? Maybe because he has been training for hours. He fights and trains with the best in the world. I would feel comfortable in saying, he can easily kick 99.9% of the UFC viewer's butts. What he does in his private life is his business. I appreciate him sharing his knowledge. Every time I see one of his videos, I have to go train. He has a side kick and spinning side kick that GSP asked him to show him. Yep. One of the best fighters to step in the Octagon, asked Joe Rogan, to teach him a technique. So if GSP respects the guys talent and teaching ability, I would say that endorsement is good enough for me. Also, he is an Eddie Bravo 10th Planet Black Belt. I wish he could talk his friend Eddie in opening a school up in Valdosta, GA. This is the martial arts waste land.

the toes of your grounded foot should be pointing outside of the opponents gate as if you are aiming to kick throw them and finish the motion after your leg has passed through the target. In a muay thai class they will encourage you to be on the balls of your foot. This is my preferance. In karate or at least in my experience of it this is discouraged while kicking.

Thank you for clarification on hand position when throwing the roundhouse. This is seriously the best explination of it I have found on the internet. I am in Thailand and have been taught both ways (hands up and swinging hand). I have read every argument on the internet and you seem to be the only one who explains that it can be done either way and the pros and cons of each rather than just arguing for the technique you perform. You da man Joe!
@TimberedSplash5 жыл бұрын
Did Hapkido for almost 8 years. I was taught to NOT follow through. The way we were taught was when executing the kick, stop, recoil the kicking leg and bring that leg back to where you will be in your original fighting stance. We were not allowed to follow through, especially do a full circle follow through, because our back would be exposed and open for a vicious counter.

@@MorsoVallanKumous it doesn't matter what there doing to your dropped hand when your shin is drilling into them. I'm not debating which is better, Im stating why the Thai people drop their hand while round housing, because in Muay Thai, they have gotten used to keeping their opponents stationed while throwing devastating hits, whether it is during the opponents attack or on this case, being held in a trap. The dropped hand keeps them stationary for a split of a second which is long enough to make contact with a kick. This is much the same concept with the clinching.

Once they're doing that, you can teach them to thrown it dynamically without over extending. Breaking the habit of kicking with the ass hanging out and just the leg swinging is a PITA.

Great tutorial, shame about missing the footwork for those who are beginners. Without correct footwork it is very easy to injure your own ankle, knee and hip. Your support leg must pivot, so the starting position of the support foot the toes would be facing your opponent and as the kick makes its impact the toes would be facing away from your opponent. Once you retract the leg back after impact your foot then pivots once again and you end up back in your stance, toes facing the opponent. Hope that helps any complete beginners 🙏🏻

Joe Rogan has a powerful spinning back kick however he gets too much praise. He is way too out of breathe. The video is not showing their feet, critical if recording a kicking tutorial. The black background hides Rogans sloppy technique. Also when teaching one should breakdown the technique further which from watching his student kick is not following through with hip. This kick is the most powerful in the world not the spinning back kick and is in my opinion the most difficult to learn due to what Joe said about the body moving together which is true. One tip that helped me is to bring the hip past your center line also use the planted foot to push off the floor and kia yell for more power. Rogan is cool but I am super disappointed in him being a gatekeeper puppet for the illuminati.

Can I explain how to make the strongest possible thrust kick here? My thrust kick is my strongest forward-facing kick, always has been. Since he's still healty enough to do this right, let's see how strong he can thrust kick. Isshinryu thrust kick: The heel is the weapon. The leg comes up and you push your buttocks forward into the kick as you extend the leg for maximum power and torque. I can thrust kick a 225lbs standing water bag and make it fly about 10 feet across a room I've walked it off before in the dojo. This is from standing guard with no running start. Combining a thrust kick with a windmill block becomes what we call "combined submission/striking" and we pull the opponent down into the thrust kick or a knee strike from a potential front wrist lock position. Kicking opponent repeatedly results in opponent tapping out or verbal submission.

The front kick would be more accurate to use as a comparison. And then again, the "boxing" jab is still allowed in mma 😉 you start throwing round kicks to someone who's good with his hands and you'll soon realise that a ROUND kick is NOT a very good "tool" to check distance, reaction ECT....if you like throwing round kicks fair enough I'm a big fan myself. But I don't agree it should be compared to the jab

That's a power roundhouse, where the knee is lower. He needs to lift his knee higher to do a proper roundhouse. Higher the knee higher the kick. The kick should not involve the toe area hitting the pad. That's a recipe for injury. Further up the foot is the correct area of contact. Black belt TKD.
