Given that the M9 is a bayonet instead of a utility knife it passed pretty nicely. I'm sure it would do its primary job even better.

Not necessarily . Unlike conventional bayonets, the M9 was designed to not only be a bayonet but also perform as a knife. So the sharpness test is a complete fail.

It's called the slap attack. It's a defensive tactic to slap them with the side of the blade as to not cut the attacker for the least damage possible.

I know a couple people are kind of giving you the piss about how you're testing this _combat bayonet_ . . . but realistically speaking, any rigors exposed to any knife is a good test of it's overall abilities. If this thing can withstand ridiculously caveman-level abuse beyond what it's technically designed for, I'd say thats certainly not a mark against it.

The M9 is made from 420 steel. It's very durable. The Army doesn't have to teach soldiers what not to do with their combination bayonets/combst utility knives made from high quality 1095 steel, that way. Rarely will the modern bayonet be used as one by untrained soldiers.

Stabs a Casing Box--stab a helmet with the enemy wearing it,or stab an enemy wearing body armor... Stab an empty metal canister-Open cans for food,or just destroy aluminum,use the SAW edge to cut wire,etc..... Break Concrete or Cinder-Block- Chop Concrete or Cinder Block-- Break enemy face-Break or chop a bone with ease,Break Glass if under water,or break glass in case of emergency..... Standing Pressure- Old Stories say this knife had 49 designers-only a few designers made it(I think 5 ).,It was to withstand the weight of 200-500 lbs(I think it was up to 500 pounds). Drop test-drop tests were up to a couple flights(5 Story Heighth-someone correct me if I am wrong) to with stand the drop from a higher height. It’s a decent knife.I still like the Old AirMen Knife (Pilots Knife like my father had when he was in AirCrew in the Navy) and the KaBar(and KaBar story origin is very cool) Facts

The Army discovered in Viet Nam that a sawback on a spine used in CQC will probably get stuck and remain there until the battle's over. Compare the M9 to a Kabar or Case fighting knife. Same design overall, but the M9 has a muzzle ring, bayonet mount, and lower quality steel.

Oh By the way, The Bayonet was never intended for or designed to be a survival knife until the M9 was introduced in the late 80's I guess, not sure, but what a kick ass knife the US jumped to from the old M8 Vietnam bayonet.
@TheNocturnalEvil
@TheNocturnalEvil 2 жыл бұрын
No, bayonets that doubled up as survival knives did exist before the M9. The Eickhorn KCB-70 and KCB-77 did all the stuff that M9 does way before even the M9 was designed. If anything the wire cutter lug feature and the screwdriver block on the sheath found on M9 were copied from the KCB-77.

This knife is tough. Other than that it's pretty much useless in every department. Paying $200CAD for a 420HC steel knife is laughable. My buddy got this against my advice and here's what I've gathered. 1. It's edge profile is terrible, I've seen axes with edges better designed for cutting and small tasks. 2. It's HEAVY. It's literally heavier than my 10" blade Kukri. Not only that it's unbalanced, terrible for fine tasks. 3. Who the hell would put this on the muzzle of their rifle? Who seriously feels like dropping 2lbs at the tip of their rifle... Nobody. That's who.
@johncarnes2688
@johncarnes2688 2 жыл бұрын
Its a bayonet, it is meant to place in the end of a m16/ m4 rifle and stab your enemy. It is great at its job.. Thats the purpose & the mission not cutting boards.
@Bowfella
@Bowfella 2 жыл бұрын
@@johncarnes2688 Even as a bayonet it's not suited for the job. Bayonets are meant for STABBING. This blade has the profile of a 2x4, not a bayonet. Not only that but it's super heavy. Why the hell would you want to slap 1kg on the tip of your barrel and make the balance of your rifle terrible?? Bayonets are supposed to be super light with a very thin profile.
@johncarnes2688
@johncarnes2688 2 жыл бұрын
@@Bowfella the blade length is 7 inches. Its not that heavy especially on an M16 platform. Little more awkward on M4 platform but not that noticble. Didn't use them that much in my 30year Army career, but it worked perfectly fine as a bayonet and never noticed it being heavy, especially with all the gear we had. It was fine for I se. It is such a good bayonet, that I bought a personal one for my persinal Colt A3 AR for nostalgia.

Just don't cut it with a tempered wire(Harder than those ordinary fences and wires, those are tempered). I used mine, yeah it cut(The spring wire from cheap airsoft guns), but it leaved a mark like it damage the cutter in the sheath, but not the knife. My m9 if kinda different thou, the difference is, the saw is like from the rambo knife. I repeat don't cut those tempered wire, even their small like needle, they will still fuck up your cutters. At least get a bolt cutter or a heavy duty pliers for that.

I live in Ontario as well, and here's the basics of Canadian knife laws: - no gravity knives and switchblades including spring loaded knives, and any other one-handed knives (e.g butterfly) -no neck knives and any other concealed carry knives -you can carry any knife fitting above standards provided it's visible and you have a good reason for it. "Self defence" is not a acceptable reason. In short, blades are allowed, just avoid one handed and concealed ones, and have a reason for it.

Great torture test. I bought one just because, some years ago before they changed the handle design. So far I've just chopped up my apartment a bit (one great thing about renting).

No it's not. bayonet with the main blade serrated is illegal to use in war. at least for NATO

If I remember right I think the saw on back is to "saw" through the aluminum hull of a helicopter .
@MayorFuglycools
@MayorFuglycools 9 жыл бұрын
mwillblade Yes, that is true, but it is also reported to cut wood material. To be honest, you could notch sticks for traps, but a better saw should be devised in my opinion. Mayor Fuglycool
