If this thing can withstand ridiculously caveman-level abuse beyond what it's technically designed for, I'd say thats certainly not a mark against it.

The M9 is made from 420 steel. It's very durable. The Army doesn't have to teach soldiers what not to do with their combination bayonets/combst utility knives made from high quality 1095 steel, that way. Rarely will the modern bayonet be used as one by untrained soldiers.

No, bayonets that doubled up as survival knives did exist before the M9. The Eickhorn KCB-70 and KCB-77 did all the stuff that M9 does way before even the M9 was designed. If anything the wire cutter lug feature and the screwdriver block on the sheath found on M9 were copied from the KCB-77.

This knife is tough. Other than that it's pretty much useless in every department. Paying $200CAD for a 420HC steel knife is laughable. My buddy got this against my advice and here's what I've gathered. 1. It's edge profile is terrible, I've seen axes with edges better designed for cutting and small tasks. 2. It's HEAVY. It's literally heavier than my 10" blade Kukri. Not only that it's unbalanced, terrible for fine tasks. 3. Who the hell would put this on the muzzle of their rifle? Who seriously feels like dropping 2lbs at the tip of their rifle... Nobody. That's who.
@johncarnes26882 жыл бұрын
Its a bayonet, it is meant to place in the end of a m16/ m4 rifle and stab your enemy. It is great at its job.. Thats the purpose & the mission not cutting boards.
@Bowfella2 жыл бұрын
@@johncarnes2688 Even as a bayonet it's not suited for the job. Bayonets are meant for STABBING. This blade has the profile of a 2x4, not a bayonet. Not only that but it's super heavy. Why the hell would you want to slap 1kg on the tip of your barrel and make the balance of your rifle terrible?? Bayonets are supposed to be super light with a very thin profile.
@johncarnes26882 жыл бұрын
@@Bowfella the blade length is 7 inches. Its not that heavy especially on an M16 platform. Little more awkward on M4 platform but not that noticble. Didn't use them that much in my 30year Army career, but it worked perfectly fine as a bayonet and never noticed it being heavy, especially with all the gear we had. It was fine for I se. It is such a good bayonet, that I bought a personal one for my persinal Colt A3 AR for nostalgia.

I live in Ontario as well, and here's the basics of Canadian knife laws: - no gravity knives and switchblades including spring loaded knives, and any other one-handed knives (e.g butterfly) -no neck knives and any other concealed carry knives -you can carry any knife fitting above standards provided it's visible and you have a good reason for it. "Self defence" is not a acceptable reason. In short, blades are allowed, just avoid one handed and concealed ones, and have a reason for it.
