There comes a point when we have to say enough is enough and stand up for ourselves. They've treated us like garbage long enough. Just look at the BC Softwood Lumber dispute, going on since the 80's. They impose tariffs, the WTO sides with us, then they impose more again. We're now at 81% tariff since August. 2 mills just shut down, and the industry has lost $10 billion since 2017 alone. And that's just the softwood lumber business... there's plenty more on the list where we've been shafted.

Dude... this is going to crush Canada's economy, and you're suggesting we wait it out. We do 76% of our trade with them... if they raise the prices on their shelves, then their citizens will just buy another cheaper brand, meaning our companies lose sales. Our companies then either eat the tariff by lowering their price enough to stay competitive, or people lose jobs, and companies shut down. Our own auto part manufacturers are saying that at 10%, they'd break even... but at 25%, it's not worth staying in business. This is going to affect millions of Canadians. The US is the largest producer of crude oil, we produce 14 million barrels per day. Normal crude oil only costs 3 or 4 dollars a barrel to refine, but the Canadian tar oil costs 50 a barrel to refine, because it has to be separated with steam in a complex process. That 2 million barrels a day is not all being bought by the US. Alot of it is shipped to Houston and loaded on tanker ships and sold to other countries.

It’s honestly kind of funny that a country relies on another foreign country for their electricity and fuel! As a Canadian, yes this is good for our country which is so rich in resources but also low in population, but if you don’t focus on building the resources that can support your own country you might want to at least just stay polite and logical about 25% teriffs across the board! Especially when your threat and leverage about this is that we have a lax boarder?! A boarder that is on both sides mostly dense woodlands and lakes! Forty-six pounds of fentanyl was caught coming into the U.S from Canada last year as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of pounds that come in from Mexico (almost all of what comes into the U.S, whether it’s from Mexico or Canada) originates from China! The small amount that has come in from Canada has come in from British Columbia (that’s our most western province for any Americans that don’t know). That’s a specific tiny problem in a tiny specific area! Let’s also talk about supposed illegal immigrant problem that is apparently coming from Canada! You can't hardly give that tar oil away, because it is costly to refine at 50 dollars per barrel, whereas normal crude costs 3 or 4 dollar per barrel to refine. Trudeau is lying when he says we buy 2 million barrels a day of tar oil. Most of it is pipelined or shipped by rail to Houston where some is refined and some is put on tanker ships and sold to other countries. With a 25% tariff on 2 million barrels per day, Canada will be paying Trump or the US treasury 40 million or so dollars per day.
