Yes it is and it is a UK Dunlop DOT race tire that can run in either direction that year! Dave Moss Host

@gggromay Thanks for the suggestion. The next shooting sessions for Two Clicks Out will be much more in depth. He was very happy with the changes made to his bike. I thought we interviewed him, but when I went to edit the piece, I didn't see it. Thanks for the feedback. Chris Matye Shooting/Editing- OTT

Binge watching Dave, so much to learn and I done even race. I just enjoy the process and fault finding to a solution.

Good example of how important it is to 'read' the tyre in order to go in the right direction with suspension. Know the cold pressure and set it before anything else. Check pressure when under the warmers and again as soon as you come in after every session. Maintaining the hot pressure gives a known constant when 'reading' your tyre...Mark, Dunlop Motorsport.

@brett6604 This is Dave's response above, to someone that made the same observation. "good observation. Most race tires are no longer directional, but DOT race tires have to have all the markings of a stock tire including the rotational arrow. Getting the most use out of a race tire (slick or DOT) is therefore done by "flipping" the tire. Helps keep the costs down a little for our biggest expense - tires!" Dave Moss

Yea I saw the arrow wrong way round as I'm a retired bike mech. Are some tyres ok one backwards then Dave?

Aren't those the Dunlop GP D211 tires, and aren't they known to disintegrate when flipped and ran backwards?

January is the scheduled month for visiting NZ. I have not started planning dates and locations yet, so would you like to get that started with me and recommend a 2-3 week trip itinerary for track days and races? Obviously, I need to be able to cover expenses for the trip, so I need to figure out how to do that.

I'm thinking he assumed someone would be smart enough to mount their tires correctly so related all issues to suspension and correcting it.

@cougz82 with these race DOT tires you can run them in either direction. This is true of many race tires, slicks or DOTs. To be race legal, all race DOT must have correct side wall information including directional arrow. Dave Moss Host

He's obviously made adjustments to the front before those laps (as mentioned) but without adjusting the back to suit the new front settings, thats why the backs chewed up, the fronts overloading the back.

Call me crazy but did anyone pick up the fact that the arrow is pointing the wrong direction on the rear tire at 4:13 ? Maybe that's why the tire is shredded????? Who mounted your tires bro???
@OnTheThrottleTV13 жыл бұрын
@khyoon14 in breaking a track down by design based on rotation, tracks lend themselves to right or left turns being fast, right or left turns being technical/slow requiring slow roll on. In this instance with this track, right hand turns were full throttle exits, lefts were maintenance throttle or slow roll ons. Dave Moss Host

Don't forget folks that most race tires event though they have an arrow on them (remember they are DOT race) are not directional. You can reverse a Pirelli or Dunlop race DOT for example. I 'flip' mine all the time to get more longevity from the tire! Dave Moss Host

Hi Dave. In a previous episode you said that when looking at the wear of the REAR tire the right side is for gas, and the left for survival. What does this mean exactly?

@Dave Moss Tuning Ok, enough comments about the tire being flipped, sheesh. Dave, I don't know if I've seen this question brought up before, but it's been on my mind..... Regarding preload, a ziptie is used in the front in order to measure fork travel. Are there any techniques used to monitor shock travel, or can that only be done by 'reading' the rear tire? As always, thanks for your response.
@fkmehardy61867 жыл бұрын
A tape measure to set up sag is for rear preload.

i like this style vid, favorite Dave Moss vid, hopefully can find more of this style. tire wear is interesting. I ran into a unknown for me. I understand theory of high and Low speed Compression. but i would think you would open up the high speed, Dial in the Low Speed( I assume its the old school, the foundation) then work on the High speed. But, honestly not sure, been out of this stuff for bit, so "High Speed" is out of my wheel house, I do understand the different inputs that are "high vs Low speed" it's not your speed, But speed definetley matters. I think of it like braking bumps,, chatter, same stuff a slow rebound can create "Packing". I may be off base??

My goal is to get into the 20's. I'd like to seek your services on how to better setup my machine to meet the needs at WSIR. Thanks.

4:05 The Arrow on the tire indicating tire Direction is Going the wrong WAY!! The tire is on Backwards, thats why its all messed up. The arrow should face the direction of rotation going forward. It is going backwards, would be perfect if he rode the track in reverse.
