I was just thinking the same. Every day's a school day. At the ripe old age of 50 I'm still learning. Today I experienced something that's never happened to me before. Covered a wall and it went off almost immediately. Managed to catch it though. First time I've finished a wall in 20 minutes.

This video dropped just in time. I took on my lounge ceiling today (Over Artex). Everything was prepped properly so was good to go. Got the first coat on and noticed the plaster was drying really fast and started to crack. Anyway after watching this video I kept my shit together and finished the 1st coat, Opened a a couple of windows to cool the room down and cracked the 2nd coat on. As I sit on the sofa totally knackered, it seems fine. So glad I kept my head - All down to watching this video last night LOL

Brilliant mate ! I started as a chippy many years ago and collected trades along the way ! Plastering being my last city and guilds. One day perhaps over a pint I will go over the story but short version is I avoided it for a long time after getting caught out a few times being cocky. But after bitting the bullet and booking time off to do the course I got there ! Now the don't panic part was awesome as I always work like that stay calm and I think it comes from my first boss when doing carpentry he used to always say " Haste makes waste!" Proper old school craftsman I was privileged to learn from him ! Any how I'm now about 16 years into plastering and a lot of what you explain I already know but would never be able to teach it or explain it, your a star mate keep it up !

Kirk the ice cool cumber makes watching this a pleasure rather than a stress!! I’ve got a question, if you wouldn’t mind! Condensation/damp/mould in the top corners of interior plaster on 1970s ex council houses, is it a cold bridging fault, or a ventilation/circulation issue in your experience?
@Onthetrowel
@Onthetrowel Жыл бұрын
In my experience mate condensation forms on cold areas, condensation = moisture and moisture = mould and damp patches. Ventilation and air circulation remove condensation so it's all of these factors together. Just think of your bathroom when you have had a long hot shower on a winter night. The windows will be dripping and that's because they are the coldest areas. It's just the same principle but it takes longer to notice
@Handless_handle
@Handless_handle Жыл бұрын
@@Onthetrowel mate that’s why your top of your game! Simply explanation no trickery! Do you recommend additional ventilation in areas/cold corners of a 1960s build? I think we are past ripping down interior/exterior brick to kingspan and such to provide additional thermal insulation…perhaps forced ventilation via PIV or similar is required: odd because all the houses in our street suffer (staggered Terrance 1960s ex council houses)
@Onthetrowel

Finally got around to this Kirk as I've had a hell of a two weeks, working 6 nights, dogsitting a giant Alaskan Malamute too... never felt so tired in my life. Anyway, thanks for finally pointing out that fat. So it's fine to move the plaster around on the wet trowel and push it all in, but any left on your trowel must go and if there's any hollows that haven't been filled at this point, you're buggered!
