Got some great guidance from FishGirl last September. My sons and I landed six Albies and lost about four to the seals out on the east side Think they were a bit larger than the ones in the video.. Ran into Tammy as she was driving on to Smith Point and the wind was ripping. Gotta get those tournament fish!

Great fishery and video. I’ll be back again in October but find it harder each year as the seals have decimated the stripers. It is extremely frustrating to fish for a few hours, finally hook up and feel a seal take your quarry, lure and line. Had one bull grey square up to me on the beach over a bluefish. Took several rod slaps and lots of yelling to dissuade him. Insane.

You gotta know how to fight the seals just as well as you know how to fight the fish….that’s what makes it more of an experience

They've destroyed Great Point. Anyone who can't admit that either doesn't fish or hasn't spent much time out there. Hard to imagine it getting worse but it will.

I agree. It sucks. But I think one of the best qualities a fisherman can have is the ability to adapt…so I have it figured out, maybe you can too

@@timothyhill7090 How does one "adapt" to a seal cherry picking your fish? If Tammy and other seasoned island surfcasters haven't figured it out, how have you? Unless you mean avoiding Great Point altogether, which would make sense.

Lol bc they don’t know how to fish…Tammy is a nice lady but I’ve fished next to her many many times. I’ll consistently land fish after fish while she and others lose fish after fish to seals again and again and again. Just like fish swim away from an approaching seal, I have 2 feet that can move. It’s not rocket science…you have a fish hooked that can swim 40mph, full sprint I can hit about half that. Do the math. While everyone else is standing still watching their fish get chowed on by seals, I use the fish’s speed and my speed to my advantage. I also keep a pocket full of golf ball sized rocks. One hand on the rod, the other whipping rocks at seals heads does wonders. (PETA calm the F down). By the time Tammy loses 2 fish in a day, I’ve got 12 on the sand. (Again, she’s a nice lady, but she ain’t that great of a fisherman). I’ve spent days out on great point where she’ll roll in 2-3 hours after I’ve already been there since before sunrise and she’ll literally post up next to me time and time again. Not saying I’m the best in the world. But I adapt to my surroundings, and I guarantee I land 5x more Albies than 99.99% of people on great point. It’s physical fishing…dead sprint down the beach parallel to the water, albie going 40mph +, me going 15 mph +, the seals can suck it. It’s not for everyone and sure I look like a lunatic, but who cares, I land the fish. Other people stand still and just wait to get their catch taken by seals. 🤷🏼‍♂️
