Hey guys, you might look into to getting hook manufacturers to promote more "barbless "hooks!

I watch osearch with great whites migration it’s amazing technology I’ll never forgot how thick the Striper population was in the 1960 I only release the Stripers love the circle hooks I was off Block Island yesterday caught all 40-50 lbers and released all of them stock levels seem very strong fishings been great keep up the good work our Grandchildren should enjoy the fishing we had years ago

I’m from Beverly and I’m familiar with the tag work you guys did last year. I have one bit of advice to improve mortality..make everyone carry a hook remover. I’m talking about the tube style that you slide down their throat and grab the hook by squeezing the trigger, push inward, twist and remove. This tool is an absolute life saver and everyone needs one in case they gut hook a fish. Everyone I show that tool to loves it and says wow I need one. And especially with so many people chunking and live lining, there is so many gut hooks. Much better to remove the hook than to cut it. A schoolie with a large circle hook is not going to end well.

Interesting info. At the end of the day. I can see weather patterns being a major factor on mortality rates.

This is all good, but MA doesn't enforce fishing laws. I've been consistently fishing in MA for 20 years all over the place and have never even seen a DCR agent. At least 60% of my freshwater fishing spots have been destroyed over the years from people filling shopping bags with largemouth bass. If you are going to charge actual anglers to fish, at least catch the people who don't follow the rules. I used to have empathy because most of these people are poor and they are feeding their family but it's gotten to the point where I don't even fish at a lot of my favorite spots anymore. And it happens with stripers too. I've seen plenty of bridges filled with people at night keeping both under and oversized fish right in view of major roads yet no one stops it even if you report it. You can set whatever size and keep limit you want but what's the point if there is no one out there to enforce it?
