Onyx Boox Nova Air C vs Nova 3 Color Comparison

They use different processors from one another. The Nova Air C uses the Snapdragon 662 processor (11 nm process). The Nova 3 Color uses the Snapdragon 636 (14 nm process). The 662 will yield ~ 15% better performance in general and uses less power. That is probably one of the reasons for the smaller battery.

I'm not too fussy about battery life or storage. I'm more worried about my eyesight, so this is perfect for me.

Very tempting. My 3 year old Nova Pro is still going strong, but the new Color display has really been refined now, especially now that it has an Amber backlight again. The main hiccup for me is the 32GB storage. 32GB already feels tight on my Nova Pro once you get into manga/comics, and a color screen which encourages more comic/picture viewing would just worsen that situation. I really wish they could've at least gone for 64GB at least, or added a MicroSD slot.

Yeah, if they added an SD card slow, it would be a no brainer for me. 32 gb simply won't cut it if you have a huge library

I think Onyx Boox should improve all their practices about the batteries. They should be removable. They could even use the same battery in all the devices, maybe put 2 of the same batteries in bigger devices ... but we need to have the possibility to fix and change the battery of our devices. In some years we will have batteries issues and this will be a disposable device. (I have an onyx note air 1) ps: Also, they should include the erase on every stylus.

I don't think I can quite justify this upgrade from Nova 3 Color to Nova Air C, but I'm looking forward to what Kaleido 3 combined with On-Cell Touch will create later this year 😁. I hope Boox considers making an eReader without note-taking capabilities that uses colour, like the Poke 2 had. Maybe a Boox Leaf C that incorporates Kaleido 3 and oncell touch to create a super crisp looking screen 🤩😁

@@whiterabbit9606 The bloom of the blue light on the Nova 3 C is a much bigger issue for me. It's so bright that you can see it shining in this video. My eyes are very sensitive to light unfortunately. As for the battery, I'm going to wait for a review which tests the battery performance on the Nova Air C so I can't really say about the battery. Plus I'm going to use it only to read during the night so I guess it's not going to be a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for the comparison. Small upgrade but an upgrade nonetheless. A physical button could have been implemented into the BOOX logo, like in the middle of an O or something, without increasing the dimensions of the unit.

I believe they offer a magnetic case that adds physical buttons similar to the Kindle Oasis although it is $59.99...If you get it from them in a package, however, you save $20 or $30 on the case.

I'm very disappointed by the performance of on-cell without the glowlight. There looks to be no difference between the Nova 3 Color's screen and the Nova Air C. Where are the benefits that are supposed to come from integrating the touch layer with the panel?

Even though Peter suggests they look exactly identical with the glowlights switched off due to identical specs, right at 5:07, the Nova 3 Color on the left seems to better (at least on camera & in my eyes-white cleaner; blues bluer) than the newer Nova Air C. I wonder if any of the other display settings (e.g. those discussed earlier on, with the photo of the balloons) are causing / can fix this to get the Nova Air C looking brighter and white without the light.

Yeah, we can understand what you're talking about. But with the naked eye in studio holding the devices right up to your face, the Nova air C looks better. It's hard to really capture that on camera

I don’t know why they put the page turning buttons on the left side it’s a bit awkward for right handed people. They could’ve put the magnet on both sides of the tablet so you can choose which side you want to stick your tablet on.

Could be a space-saving thing seeing as the C is smaller in all dimensions. Also, you don't need a huge battery as long as the software is refined. But yeah, typically speaking a bigger battery is better

I returned my Nova 3 Color because the contrast was too low when the backlight was off compared to the Nova 3 (B&W). Your video shows the screens side by side with the backlight off for a moment (4:54) but it looks like this problem has not been addressed. Would you agree? Clarification: when I say 'the contrast was too low' I mean that the background whites were not white enough.

Nova 3 and Nova 3 Color are using different types of E-Ink. On a color screen (at least for now) you always habe this gray filter and have to choose between no color at all and that background. As the new device is using the same screen, the problem remains.

It's been a long time since I really paid close attention to my Nova 3 Color battery, but when I first got it I went to the beach with it and with wifi/blue tooth turned off, front light turned off the battery dropped from 85%-83% after 8 hours with frequent refreshing of the screen. My daily use will at times use wifi, blue tooth, frontlight, etc. But I've never tracked it as carefully as I had in that first month or so of owning it. It's possible the battery has worsened since the latest software updates, I'd have to check again sometime soon. Hope this little spiel gives you some idea for the Nova 3 Color anyways 😁.

The most disappointing review so far.. Nova Air C has two speakers and weights 235g. Nova 3 color has one speaker and weights 265g. The screen comparisons were very inaccurate as the settings you set up for both devices were not controlled. You could see the screen becomes totally different when you set the E-ink center or App optimization differently.

I agree with the question. Which firmware version is compared? 3.2.1 improved drastically the colors on nova 3 color. At least is my impression. I recommend the installation to all owners of a nova 3 color.

Well they're not the same without a backlight, again, the new technology merges two of the layers together. If you see it with your naked eye, it's a lot better than on camera It's not a completely different experience, but it is nicer on the newer unit

I ordered one, and I returned few days later. That is not a good device. No personalization authorized, no google services (I knew it, I still have a Matepad 11 on harmony os) but il this case it was really a problem to me. No mails, no agenda, I have everything on google. You can't had widgets with other apps, ... I don't recommand it.

@@karinemery They removed the physical home key and arguably the making of the bezels smaller. Smaller bezels is *sometimes* a bad thing as it tanks the ergonomics. Who cares how *modern* a device looks if it feels like crap in the hands and causes cramps?

the 3 is superior imo. Nearly double the battery for 50 dollars less. I don't think anyone buying one of these needs more blue light in their eyes, and wishes to get away from that. They're both very good devices, but the 3's pen is better too. Applications both a great plus
