Thanks for this breakdown! I really appreciate 343’s more nuanced, sympathetic portrayal of the Brutes in Infinite; as much as I love the original trilogy, I always wondered whether there was anything else to the Brutes aside from being primal and cruel. 343 have done a great job fleshing them out and making them feel more like people, and I think that’s to be commended.

I completely agree about what you said about Hyperius at 14:50 he was incredibly underused in the story despite his design giving him a aggressive amount of character. I also need to mention how odd it is how 343 change his facial design from the concept art to the actual ingame model. Like he’s missing his flaming hair, his fangs, and even his own Gravity hammer that looks similar to Tartarus’s.

Anybody else wondering how the brutes expect to reproduce on Zeta Halo when there seems to be no females around? First thing I thought of when I saw they wanted to colonize the Halo lmao

The rings have cylix's of each species more than likely if the harbinger could open one, the brutes could easily reproduce

In the book shadows of reach, he sends a team of troops to retrieve forerunner slipspace crystals from Truth's keys ship on the ark. He then uses them to open a portal and leave the ark and meet up with escharum, also as he did this the faction the keepers of the one freedom use this opportunity to go to the ark and are going to attempt to fire the rings in the next halo book

Good video. This reminds me of EBR’s videos talking about what went wrong with the Brutes in Halo 3, and how their aesthetics/gameplay changed overtime. My favorite Brutes in terms of visuals and behavior are the Halo 2 ones. Although, them being bullet sponges wasn’t very fun. We know from the books that the Spirit of Fire is still around. They’re still trapped on the Ark, and so is a lot of the Banished. Those two Brute brothers (already forgot their names since I’m bad with names) are still alive. Also, Atriox getting off the Ark was explained in a book. Halo Canon and Hiddenxperia have videos talking about what happened in those books.

Spoiler in 2nd paragraph With halo wars brutes, I think that there was meant to be a DLC centred around the Brute Chieftan but unfortunately it got cancelled. Also, I really hope that brutes in the future do not die off. I know that they wont die off but there is a slight worry for me that they may go extinct because of their planets destruction. Its quite rare but brutes are my favourite species of all time because of how cool they are. I want them in lore to be a large powerhouse of the galaxy as they are now.

Brutes definitely need that mutton chop hair. With it, they have a defined head silhouette and generally look more badass like Tartarsauce and Atriox. Without it, they look like big toes (a la Craig and Eschiram)
