I think cos cream is a treat they are not used to getting. Where as in the wild other animals like to come and steal a cat's meat, so their instinct is to get defensive over it. I believe it's cheetahs that will actually drag a entire antelope up a tree to defend it from hyenas and stuff.

I've tested it, and my cat likes all of those things. His favorite is also cream though, followed by yogurt with a high fat content. But in general he likes pretty much anything, including plain french fries and cooked carrots.
