Viele Menschen kennen ganz wenig die wahre Geschichte um den König. Ich bin zwar kein Königstreuer, doch ich weiß das er der letzte wahre König war. Er war friedlich, ehrlich, gutherzig und tolerant. Das hatten in der damaligen Zeit bereits viele verlernt. Und jetzt ist es genau so. Er besaß wahre Tugenden. Wenn ein Mensch das nicht weiß was das ist, wäre es immerhin ratsam sich sehr tiefgründig zu informieren. Deshalb liebte sein Volk ihn und er liebte sein Volk.

Wonderful portrait montage. Ludwig had too much sadness in his life. He must have been at war with himself, pitting his own nature and emotional needs against what lessons he had been taught by the social laws & attitudes of his era, his religion, his royal responsibilities, and his exposure to the public eye. I wish that he could have had a much happier, longer life, and I wish the same for Otto.

It's kind of sad that you can see that in the pictures before he was king he looked quite happy and in the one after he was crowned you can clearly see that something changed.

He looked forward to becoming king someday, but not so soon. As it was, he was forced onto the throne when not yet 19 years old. He was the opposite of King Edward VII of Great Britain and the Prince of Wales today. Both were born to succeed, but had to/have had to wait for the deaths of long-living sovereign mothers they loved/love so dearly, before assuming the throne. Ludwig II, by contrast, loathed and feared his father (Maximilian II) -- but did not especially wish for his death. For that meant he would be king, a prospect he dreaded. He had no choice about the matter: the death of King Maximilian II of Bavaria in 1864 abruptly ended his childhood. That put an end to all hopes of enjoying a long, leisurely tenure as a carefree crown prince.

Too much pressure at such a young age. Nobody understood what he wanted. He loved Elisabeth but she never returned his love. So tragic. But she knew the plot to kill him so she did send word of her coach waiting across the lake. The rest is history.

Maybe pressure being a King so young at 18 , expectations for him to marry Sophie, who he clearly didn't love and ironic that The one he did love was married to the Emperor of Austria and rejected compounded into that so called Madness. Which he was definitely depressed from. Also led to the Rumors that he had affairs and was spending an enormous amount of money on Beautiful women. Then the other stories of his homosexuality experiences.
