thank you, i love the underground memphis scene and to see the music get overshadowed by these sensationalized cringe theories is annoying.

Obviously the theory is stupid but you can't deny its' creativity and entertainment value.

You said it man. BASIC CRITICAL THINKING. Unfortunately, some people would rather stay in a 4Chan rabbit hole of absurdity. Thanks for the content! #MemphisAF

Thank you man fr my uncle worked on one of the tapes with DJ Zirk and Squeeky they where makin the music that reflected what they were on that’s like saying Chicago Drill music has Sigils cuz it’s dark music about murder yeah when u livin in the hood all you see is Death and Violence and also thank you for tellin even the fans of all this Memphis and phonk rap they got all the music they made frm Spice 1 NWA and Especially Geto Boys mostly Scarface and Bushwick bill
@Carbine642 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU for talking about this and doing so succinctly. I wish this video would get more popular to put this shit to bed for good. I love Memphis rap music, but Phonk and this sigil bullshit has been really hampering the positive press this genre could have if only people would pay more attention to it. There are some good revival acts and the hardcore fans stay hardcore, but the vast majority just throw it under the bus. I feel like one day this stuff will get its due, but for now we just gotta support it as much as we can.
@joechillworld8047 Жыл бұрын
i think the only phonk i can bare is the original stuff from 2013 and so on (like dj smokey, black kray, etc), the drift stuff is so overrated and generic sounding that even drift phonk artists agree that they're getting sick of it

Finally someone came uo with some real talk, these folk out there on reddit/4chan need to get they life together and touch some green fresh grass. I hate how hard people try to make Memphis Rap be a style of itself, try to drift it off into phonk or whatever the fuck. It do be all hip hop though, it ain't nothing to it, 94-96 era of Memphis Rap had a dark tone to it bc the city had its violence and addiction peak during these times, but hip hop is more bout reality than aesthetic. To sume everything, amazing job roddie. I was dying for a video like this. New sub granted.

I believe whoever started this owned this albums on tape and started to hype up the tapes, in order to sell them online and overpriced them since they knew people would want to buy them because they are spooky. I mean look online original copies of these albums are real expensive. Of course I have no proof of this.

I feel like the earlier iceberg videos from Wendigoon and blameitonjorge from 2020-2021 were good because they never promoted baseless conspiracies to be true and they actually touched subjects that made sense for an iceberg chart - Jorge and Wendi were also familiar with the topics they were speaking about and had passion. Nowadays people will make an iceberg chart for anything even if they dont care for the subject and/or the subject has been done to death (seriously, how many Internet Horror Icebergs do we need?). Still an iceberg chart can be good if it's well thought out and unique. But to build on this video, as somebody who follows 90s Memphis Rap, it's pretty obvious the only people who believe this theory are zoomers or casuals who only listen to 90s Three 6 Mafia and 8ball & MJG (ironically not scary at all) or Suicide Boys fans who say shxt like "oMg Memfiz raP iz a Sowynd". The only reason these songs are considered "sigils" is because they're horrocore songs that were uploaded from bootleg and/or damaged tapes. Not to mention, that "Hellraizer" song by Maniac is agreed to be trash in the community and is often memed on. Most importantly, not all Memphis Rap is scary or disturbing. Sure the horrorcore stuff like 90s Three 6, DJ Paul & Lord Infamous' tapes, Children of the Corn (and Lil Grim's other works), Trauma Center Killaz and Manson Family can be unnerving and disturbing, but theres plenty of Memphis Rap is that regular Dirty South Gangsta Rap, Conscious Rap, G Funk, Jazz Rap, Political Rap, Boom Bap Rap, New Jack Swing, Crunk, and even House Rap.

honestly a lot of children of the corn/graveyard productions songs were pretty conscious about mental health

Serious disrespect to memphis. Those 'sigils' tarnish the name. When I think of memphis, I think of the classics, such as gimisum family's fear no evil, or devil shit by cotc. Heck, maybe even 3 6's ridin in da chevy. These were what I grew up on, and having come out of a religion I was indoctrinated into, they hold a special place. But lowering em down to be some child's-play with somethin like this just rubs me the wrong way.

not much to debunk considering its a pretty absurd theory, and you could probably debunk most of the theories on the 4chan iceberg; but I still find the idea that they created these sigils for money and fame entertaining despite it's flaws
