I still ordered the new switch, but in a pinch it would have worked. Thanks for watching!

MHTI, I replaced my neighbors breakaway switch cause he had the same problem. The new switch was a lot harder to pull the plug out than the original. I think the OEM must of got a bad batch os switches which were made in CHINA. Maybe quality control persons were out to lunch for sure. This is only a thought Sir. Good luck with your unit. I know locking brakes can give the driver a true scare fro sure. The black zip tie idea defeats the purpose of the safety feature. I personally would not tie the pull plug for the safety part of the equation fella. Peace V

I ordered the new breakaway switch, but I still think the wire tie would work. The plastic tie would retain the pin, but would easily break off if the cable was pulled by the force of a 7000+ lb 5th wheel if it detached. I think it is a viable alternative for a short term, 'get me home" fix. Thanks VF!

@@mrhoptoit7835 I like your logical thinking MHTI. Good luck in your travels Sir......

Those zip ties are stronger than you think. I would not do that myself. Good luck anyway!

@@muskygoss1 The zip ties I have with the stainless steel tooth are just incredibly strong. I agree with you MG1

Lets review what a breakaway switch does. In the very unlikely event of a trailer disconnecting from the tow vehicle while being towed, the cable tightens and pulls out the switch pin, which activates the switch, and locks the brakes. I did say that I was going to use a light gauge cable tie. not those handcuff ties police officers use. I can easily snap these ties with my gloved hands, and Im by no means a body builder. These wire ties wouldn't offer any resistance to the weight of even the smallest camper breaking away., not to mention my +7000lb 5th wheel. That being said, I like things the way they are supposed to be and a new breakaway switch is ordered. Thanks everyone for your concerns.

Seems like a pain. Hope this all is figured out soon for good as it definitely seems like a hazard in itself. With a new rig I would not have thought that this would happen. But I guess it is a quirk that needs MrHOPToIT to resolve. Good luck and keep us updated/ posted. Interesting video Sir. BTW, maybe the dealership would give a different switch to try?
