the crazy thing about your music, the thing i love most about it, is that i don't need the commentary during the making of the song in order to hear the message. in the song itself i can hear realisations, the increasing need for change, the song communicates the feelings and thoughts just as good if not better than a speech, or a protest, or some other crazy thing. My dad has this poster in the downstairs living room that doubles as an instrument room, and it says "Music - for when words arent enough", and... this song finally made me realise the truth behind those words, the idea that i never quite understood that music tells stories. my music may never reach the point where i can tell a story as well as you and undoubtedly others. but i want to reach that point someday, and i'm going to continue trying. maybe i can give someone that click moment like you just gave me. thanks, jeremy.

totally relate and 100% agree. it sucks that this is what needed to happen, but somehow it's seemed to bring us all together and make a lot of people realize what's actually important. I hope everybody doesn't just go right back to living the same way they did before all of this, and I don't think they will - people have realized that there needs to be some kind of change. All of this is the start of something much bigger, I think. oh and really cool sounds, thank you for those.

KCIRCE I think you misunderstood my point. Trust me when I say I know this sucks. I’m totally broke. I also own a business and had to let all of my employees go. People are sick, people are dying. Obviously there is a downside to this and I’m not saying there isn’t. You would have to be completely delusional to only see the “good” in this. But that doesn’t mean you have to focus only on the negative. People are realizing that our current systems and ways of living are totally fucked and that something needs to change. People are realizing that there’s more to life. People are finding what they’re actually passionate about again, people are spending more time with their family and people are realizing that the only way through this is by making it through this together. People are more connected now than ever before.. and if you can’t see that, well that’s on you.

It is good to know what others are thinking and that our thoughts are aligned during this time. Rising above what has been separating us all this time is the first step in changing the devastating course our ship of fools had bearing for. Issues have been intentionally dividing us. Let's start with common ground, resolve those issues, then we can focus on the other things in time. I've had one for a few years. It makes a nice scratch pad for sketching out song ideas, but it's also really awkward to try to build complete finished songs on. There are good reasons why Jeremy treats it as a way to record stems, and then moves it all into Ableton to finish each song. Also, the OP-1 is nice as a completely standalone device, since it does a bit of everything... but it's not particularly good at most of those things, and it doesn't really integrate well with other devices. It's kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of device, and kind of a loner. Whether it's right for you depends mostly on you and your style and needs. Its audio-based workflow means you'll probably need some decent performance skills to play each clip while recording, rather than sequencing the notes and letting a machine play for you. Also, its limit of 4 mono tracks and 6 minutes can be very cramped to work in, it's really bad at handling reverb tails and such, its sequencers are awkward, and there aren't really any functions to edit clips afterward if you need to adjust something you already recorded. However, it's fun to use, it's good at facilitating interesting new musical ideas, it's very portable, and the timeline workflow is nice. It's a fun and quick way to sketch out songs, but I'd suggest a different tool for actually finishing songs. Like... a MPC or a Deluge or a DAW. Jeremy makes it look like absolute bangers just fall out of the OP-1, but that's not because of the OP-1 itself. What's being shown here are his insane skills. As far as I'm aware, no one else on the planet can do what he does.
@MChristian4 жыл бұрын
@@ToyKeeper +1 for the Deluge. Also Jack of all, master of none except being the master of grooveboxes. It's unrivaled in its class in my opinion.
@ToyKeeper4 жыл бұрын
I'm still trying to decide what tool to use as the core of my setup. I tried OP-1, but quickly found out why it's not normally used that way. Currently using a Digitakt, which helped, but it's very limiting in other ways. A Deluge looks like a good upgrade, since it would give me the ability to arrange clips on a timeline. But I'm wondering if I should just go for a DAW instead. I don't like using a computer for music, but it would be soooo much more powerful... I'm wanting a workflow which is horizontal first, like laying out a melody several minutes long... then work vertically, to add more instruments and harmony and drums. Then adjust voicing, tweak patches and levels, sprinkle more variety where I can, and render a final mix. A DAW can definitely do that, and a Deluge sort of can too. Neither Digitakt nor OP-1 is really very compatible with this approach though, so composing is currently a lot more painful than necessary. I hope to find an agreeable solution soon. Also hoping the solution will make it fairly easy to freeze and re-freeze clips recorded from other hardware... like, sequence the notes via midi, render to audio, then reuse the same hardware for other patches. And be able to go back and edit and re-record previously-frozen sequences if necessary. But maybe I'm asking for too much.

As someone with a chronic pain disability I am hoping that people will come to realize that the temporary situation they find themselves in is the harsh, permanent reality for a lot of people, and that we'll come out of this with more compassion and understanding for others, and a realization that what some people need temporarily is also necessary for a lot of people *forever*. I am not terribly optimistic about it but I still have some vague presence of hope for it.

People with disabilities tend to be seen as "mooches" or "leeches" or are only given the very minimum basic money needed for living (and god forbid you have any savings or a spouse); now so many people have been laid off and are realizing that, oh, maybe a safety net would be Good, Actually.
