It's not about getting the best "studio experience" for the price. It's about the user experience with the instrument. Teenage Engineering has obviously spent a lot of time on designing a unique instrument with an excellent (and self contained) user interface, and a system of accessories to make the user's interaction with the instrument special. Quarterly sales and the ability to replicate Skrillex songs were not in the design brief.

Its not meant to be a studio piece though it can certainly be used for things in a studio. Its made to be super portable and powerful for on the fly music creation and above all FUN to use! Personally for its size it is absolutely amazing what you can get out of this thing. Considering people pay absolutely silly money for phones these days I'd much rather spend my cash on this.

I personally find it quite cool; TE established the OP-1 on the point that it was a basis for musicians to build and innovate on; this surely just adds to the customisability (if thats a word!) of the interface? I dunno, I have fun with my music. Wouldn't want it any other way. Do you not think that could be the point? TE are making a product that's fun to mess around with in silly scenarios, but is also a professional interface if you find something that works for you?

Every DAW can beat the OP - 1, at everything The OP - 1 it's a great synthesizer, at an incredible small size, but it isn't worth the price tag, it would be rather "expensive", like Apple products ( great quality, small size, convinient,...) So if you want to jump into music producing, get a decent laptop with a DAW, learn and make music with it, then you'll change your mind when thinking of buying the OP - 1

hello, not sure what you mean. this video is from 2012 so not sure which microphone was used. we are an engineering company. who knows, someday we might produce socks as well. maybe we could use those as pop filter for voiceover recordings?! now you got us thinking... thanks and have a good one!
@LilMilkable
@LilMilkable 4 жыл бұрын
teenageengineering you know perfectly what I mean, you're just trying to be sarcastic :) you have to admit that having such bad audio quality in a video is not the best presentation for a company that produces instruments. Not saying it's essential, it's obviously totally irrelevant. But still...
@teenageengineering
@teenageengineering 4 жыл бұрын
thanks, no we don't do sarcasm, that's way too offensive for us swedes. we would never dare (and also find it contra productive). we do however have the saying "med glimten i ögat", which possibly is untranslatable but suggests a heartfelt (self-) humoristic approach (socks for pop filter?).

its nice that they are doing something different and quirky, so long as they are giving people what they want as well. I think they need to be careful carrying on down this path as it could look like they are being greedy - the op-1 is very expensive as it is, and then bring out some very expensive bits of plastic as new accessories to help turn the nobs a little better? it just doesnt look good!
