In case no one has explained clearly enough, the OP strat is to wait for you to hit the ball right to them, then chip it over your head into your open net. It is actually quite OP against other golds, which is why they keep using it. The OP counter is to notice when they don't go for the kick off, slow down slightly and chip the ball left or right of centre (because dribbling and flicking is beyond the abilities of most golds). Usually they don't have the aerial skill to save it, and it's a free goal. This strat is actually still used with disturbing frequency in high plat and even low diamond, though because they usually have the ability to save an off-centre shot, I find a better counter is to shoot wide (they will usually jump to make the save but miss the ball because it's too far away) and score on the rebound. Or dribble and flick if you have the skills (I don't).

Yeah people in gold don' go for the kickoffs because they believe that they will save the ball and get an easy counter attack, a thing that never happens, so after a few times they realise that it doesn't work and stop doing it. I'm stuck in gold/plat because I play to quickly and miss all the shots so I will try to follow your advice and wait till they make a mistake. The no kickoff “strat” is basically they’re hoping you go and dodge in the ball, so that the ball rolls to them and all they have to do is hit it hard towards to the goal. You’ll be too close from the enemy net so you won’t have time to go back and save it.

The staying in net kickoff tactic is so that when the opponent shoots you save it and hit it towards their net. I dont use this anymore cus im in Diamond but it was pretty useful if you could actually save the ball.

I am gold in 1v1, and the only reason I DON’T go for the kickoff, is because I like to do saving. That and I might afk. However, I do not play much competitive games and usually play casual, so I can see why you suggest this when you play in competitive. Also, I can do some average wall hits, flicks, dribbles and pinches, so I don’t think these golds represented my rank very well, but that is my opinion and I’ve only been playing for 2/3 of a year.
