G’day everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video we’ll be opening up some parcels that need cutting, with some additional material from my stash. I’ll got a bit of detail into how I look at the rough opal and estimate a possible yield, it’s always best to read the opal before any grinding, to glean as much information as possible to be able to make good decisions. I hope you enjoy, thanks for your time. 🤪👍

Thankyou for the excellent instructional videos. Great work packed with the type of information the budding opal cutter usually has to learn the hard way.

quite a variety of material. rough to cut may yield an approximate 20% result. however, sharing your process to get that result exponentially gave the 80% loss a priceless value ✌️🐝➕

I just stumbled upon your channel and absolutely love it. I'm a big fan of black opal direct. Been following him for years and I live in the States so not a lot of knowledge about opal or experience with it, however I absolutely love gemstones and enjoy your content. Looking forward to more adventures and beautiful looking creations. 👍✨🙏🇺🇸

Was really cool seeing you work out the cut using the sharpie, made sooo much more sense when you see it planned out like that🤔🤔🤔 There was one stone that had 3 red colour bars that had me thinking, would you be able to split them using a trim saw? Awesome video, thanks for sharing ✌😎✌

G’day mate, good question, if the colour was brighter and cleaner, I’d have chased at least two stones, but it’s the size, sand and lack of brightness, that made it impractical. 🤪👍

Please wear a mask, dear. You seem like a really lovely person and we don't want to loose you to the cancer that gets the opal miners or silicosis. If you can smell them, you're breathing it in. Also, I think it is really interesting that different opals smell differently when you cut them because I am a very scent-oriented person, and I would be curious to smell them once, and it probably wouldn't do too much harm, but you're cutting stones often enough and out in the dust often enough that you should probably have some protection.
@theopalmills
@theopalmills Жыл бұрын
G’day mate, I do appreciate your concern, but the smell is gaseous, not a fine powder, a dust mask wouldn’t stop the smell, and with the water running over the wheel washing away the ground opal, I’m quite safe from silica dust. Cheers. 🤪👍
