They look amazing, another idea you could try is making a blank rink from resin then using your dremel, carve channels into the ring which you then fill with opal dust/pieces, and seal with a fresh coat of resin.

Meteorite gets a cool look from the etching... so you would have to do the etching as an intermediate step. Obviously not impossible... but not easy.

Meteorite dust would just look like carbon dust and not nice at all. The solid Meteorite rings he has made are solid and not dust. They look like forged carbon fiber.

I would love to see this done with genuine natural opal. This is, of course, synthetic. I think some lightening opal or even good Welo opal chips would work well.

Being a structural color, if you grind the opal fine enough the colors will go away. For the effect you want you might try silica powder as fine a mesh as you can get and then titrate it to get the effect you want. Cool ideas.

If you want a solid color haze in resin they make resin pigment powder specifically for that.

I love these rings! They are beautiful. I know you have done rings from a basic method,using hand tools mostly, which I love watching, being that I only have handtools to work with. Could you possibly, do another tutorial with this method, both of these, but not use the pressure pot and the vacuum chamber? Use a different, low tech, method?

The problem with using resin is that it's supposed to gradually dissolve if placed into water. Washing hands is frequent and will be done accidentally if wearing the ring.

Trying to grind (rather than crush) too small a particle size might destroy/negate the the opal hydrous Silica's refractive and reflective properties.

Lab grown - the silica spheres form columns instead of random shapes. Sometimes it's also resin impregnated.

Maybe this trend will take off by the time I get hitched. Opal is my favorite Stone but I'm an artist and don't need a traditional set stone to tear up my paper while working. A channel setting or something like this would be baller. Esp since I'm allergic to metal so a channel setting in metal would probably cause a reaction.
