Heck, he even spared the cyclopes' life. With this song, we see why Odysseus learning this philosophy from his friend polites and even after polites' death, Odysseus kept this philosophy in honor of his friend

I think the lotus eaters didn't think the cave was harmful either not just because they were chill but the cyclopses didn't mind their existence and probably let them come and go. If you remember the next song, polyphemus isn't mad because they trespassed but instead because they killed his sheep and planned to steal. Had odysseus been chill like the lotus eaters, polyphemus might've let them trade or bargain for some food
