That being said, to me PotC is dead. Johnny Depp was sensational in the first movies, but he really dropped the ball in the latter movies. Jack Sparrow always appeared to be way more drunk than he actually was as a cover to hide his very shrewd and opportunistic mind. In the latter movies he was just plain drunk and there was almost nothing left of the shrewd and conniving Jack Sparrow. To me that killed off Jack Sparrow and therefore PotC.

Simon Tolkien selling out his grandfathers works and having issues with JRRs success is the epitome of modern thinking. And it makes me sick because I would never even dream of tarnishing my grandpa’s legacy. Ever. I’ll be honest that he could be verbally abusive and he wouldn’t sugar coat his words. He never missed an opportunity to criticize us for every thing we did wrong. But he also never missed a day of work less he was near death. He never missed so much as a car payment. He never let his children go hungry or his grandkids. He treated everyone uniquely and gave us good Christmas presents. Hell he bought my parents a water heater when the old one died without a second thought. That’s not even going into his decades of charity work, his time as a Boy Scout chairman and his service in world war 2. My grandfather was a good man and if I’m lucky I’ll be able to accomplish 1/10th of what that man did in a year in my entire life. My point being, is that when you have a grandfather who did a lot with his life and managed to touch so many lives in the process you don’t sell that legacy down the river or bitch about how unfair it is that you can’t be as good as him. You honor his memory and you thank God or whatever you hold near and dear that you had the privilege of being his kin. Simon regrets living in his grandfathers shadow. I regret that I didn’t spend more time with my grandfather before he died and I’m a straight up asshole. That’s should tell you how much of a douche bag Simon Tolkien is. Pretty spot on about Andor - having listened to these takes I do recall it being a bit of a slow burn at the front - but Skarsgaard and Serkis are fantastic. Cassian represents a bit more of a conduit by the end but I think he's perfectly satisfying in that regard. I like that he isn't a Hollywood stud and he's consistent and has an appreciable arc so far. It IS somewhat a detraction that we know his fate but, at the same time, knowing a character's ultimate fate isn't necessarily a bad thing. When done right, the motion towards that end is engaging. The same can be said about the series length, it might feel difficult to commit emotionally to the series, but, when done right, it should be tightly wound and not suffer from bloat.

@PolarizedMechs2 жыл бұрын
Because those had good writers. MLP could do Tom and Jerry in the 1940s comedy or do social commentary, and it excelled at both. Sailor Moon also had some very poignant plots and great characterization. Those female characters were strong, tough, and even when they got knocked down, they got back up. They were not perfect.

It makes me sad to hear everybody trashing on Kang. Now, to be clear… while I was big into the comics, it was actually Earth’s Mightiest Heroes(the animated series) that gave me my love of Kang. They managed to give him depth, emotional weight and just, straight-up menace. He was a real threat. Just like Ultron from that same series. So much potential in those villains and they just didn’t get realized on the big screen. Big sad.

S1E8 of HotD is absolutely brilliant. I was moved to tears in MULTIPLE moments...something GoT never came close to achieving. The very end when Viserys is moments from dying and he reaches up as if he sees Aemma. It cuts to black and the final words spoken are "my love." It was so smart to have him say that AFTER cutting to black instead of before because it implies he's reached some afterlife and can finally see his true love again. Its not simply a vision, or that's atleast what they want us to believe in order to deepen the impact of Viserys' death. An amazing character on par with Ned Stark with a completely different ending. Bravo to Paddy Considine and Season 1 as a whole. We are ready for Season 2!

Agree with Nerdrotic on that since he's old enough to remember those old days. There was only a handful of old hack critics that slated the film because they didn't like sci-fi outside of the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. Every other critic and all the news channels raved about the film. Ahhh the good old days when Star Wars was released during the school summer holidays like blockbusters were supposed to be. Christmas Star Wars releases are lame and pure Disney groomer fluff.

"Consume product and await next product" is the best meme for this era. Regarding "Ring of Power", there was a moment in that last episode where the witches told the tall stranger that he was Sauron and I thought that these hacks had actually been geniuses all along. That they'd been toying with the viewers the whole year, with "Hot Sauron" (Halbrand) being such an obvious setup that it is called out by the "superfans" in Amazon's own promos, and then in the last episode they call us all out, that's not Gandalf, it's Sauron! GENIUS! And then in two minutes they completely wreck it. It actually could have been good if they'd stuck with that.

The people saying Andor is good are the same people who mindlessly praise The Mandalorian. This is my opinion, but I have no respect for a show's writing team when half way through the second season, they know an episode is going to end with droids flying away with the McGuffin so they set the main character up pointing his blaster at an unarmored man's face, has him dead to rights, and the unarmored man says "put down the jetpack," completely ignoring the blaster staring him in the eye. Why not put down the blaster? Because the jetpack can prevent the cliff hanger they have set up at the end. Or a couple episodes later when the Dark Saber is suddenly unable to be given, even though in Rebels--a show also produced by Filoni and Favraeu who are not in fact your saviors--Sabine GAVE the Dark Saber to Bo-Katan already. Andor can pound sand. I have given up completely on Disney Wars and no amount of artificial hype and acceptance will be able to pull me out of the mountain of Expanded Universe books that came before(despite what KK said.)

These companies buy the IP, because they want the fan$, and then ignore the canon which is why the IP has the fans. They just do not understand that the IP comes with the canon and that canon keeps the fans. The story is there, the universe is there, the characters are there, the fans are there, and yet, they think they can do better, and rarely do. Then of course it is the fans' fault.

THEORY: production if the falcon and the winter soldier began in October 2019 and Chadwick passed away the following year in August I believe. I'm pretty sure there's a comment in the series made by Zemo saying he killed the black panther which most likely was written before Chadwick passed away. Point is I am willing to bet black panther was already on his way out of the MCU and Chadwick's passing was a happy accident on marvels front and saw the opportunity to pose it as a respectful end to Chadwick's character and that he could never be recast from this unfortunate event. If I'm right about falcom and soldier boy then that could mean they never intended to do anything else with the black panther and his death was always ment to happen in this movie.

In 2011 My then GF worked at an Adult Store as a second job, they sold it for 90 bucks each and people would buy it. If they sold 100,000 copies total they'd make their budget back and that's at a few years later reduced price. That's not counting all the websites they licensed to, all the rentals, all the "arcades" playing it...Somebody retired off that money. That's insane profit. My ex stole a copy because of course she did. You could tell it had a crazy good budget. Some Producer made their dream pirate movie, made some money, and probably screwed a few pronstars on the set. Dude was living his dream.

When you look at Disney you have to think their CFO is looking at results vs projected results and saying WTF are we doing here? 😳 Marvel was a slam dunk 1 Billion Gross per movie. To put this into perspective at an average of 150-250 million (production budget) and a marketing budget 100-150 million these Movies need to gross twice this amount just to break even. Wakanda Forever is listed at around 500 million total cost, so needs literally 1 billion gross just to break even. This year every Marvel Movie has underperformed including Doctor Strange. So 2022 could see the entire slate of Marvel Movies making little or nothing at the Box Office. So back to our hypothetical CFO instead of making 1.5-3 Billion for the year they have lost 1.5-3 Billion. How long can any Studio keep going with that type of burn rate? 🔥 Our CFO would likely say if we don't change our direction immediately Disney Studios will be bankrupt in 3-5 years.
