My only advice is don't take Best Buy at their word. I found a x950g set last year listed as "Open Box - Excellent." I got to the store. Not only was there NO STAND and NO REMOTE (floor model), but there was an 8" long gash across the display, about 1/2" wide, very noticable. Yeah... Excellent condition.

@@BTheInstallerI followed your advice and bought a open box JBL 9.1 sound bar from Amazon a couple weeks back with a 90 days warranty for a very good discount from his regular price and everything was in perfect shape. At first it was a nightmare since I live in Puerto Rico and they refuse to ship the package outside the US, but I get lucky and send the package to a friend who lives in Orlando Fla that was coming to PR and he brought me the package along with his luggage. I am very pleased with the sound bar but as soon I can save some more funds I am going to sell it to buy the new Sony HT-A9 sorround system to used it along my new 2021 Samsung AU 8000 65” TV after seeing your great and honest review about this product vs the other top of the line Sonos arc with the sub gen 3 and SL ones rear speakers 👍😊

@@BTheInstaller I just scored an open box 55 inch Sony A80CK at Costco for 50 percent off new it had everything still in the box accesories and paperwork! I had just bought the same tv at best buy for $400 off and had it sitting in my Suv when I went into Costco to buy a tv mount for it. After seeing the one at Costco for an extra $250 off the Best Buy deal and in much better condition (The best buy one looked heavily used, possibly a floor model) I bought the Costco Tv had them hold it for me and returned the best buy tv and came back for it.

Just got a 65” QN90A open box from Best Buy. It was geek squad certified excellent. Got it home and opened it up immediately. To my surprise everything was sealed in the bag, plastic film still on it. $1600 out the door.

My 65” LG C1 was an open box item, the sales associate at Best Buy told me the previous owner had to return it because it didn’t fit in their apartment, now whether that was true or not I don’t know. But I got a great deal and I’ve owned it since June and haven’t had any problems, besides the stand not being included, I made one quick phone call to LG service parts and they shipped the base stand to me for free.

Bought an open box once and when I got it home it had a clear impact on the panel. I hiked it back to the store immediately and they gave me a hassle and didn't want to take the return. The manager of the best buy said they would only make this exception once - OKaay - hopefully won't have to return this defective product again. So I would say that if its in the box, get it out and test it or get assurance they will take it back if there is any defect.

My 65" Hisense H9G and Samsung 950T soundbar are both open box and still work like new. My A80J TV wasn't an open box but still gave me an open deal price so that's was pretty cool. I have just one story about returning a TV to Best Buy. I always try to be absolutely scrupulous about returning any new product by making sure it is in totally pristine condition and EVERYTHING that was originally included with the product -- down to the last little twistie -- is still intact. The staff at Best Buy inspected my return and seemed reluctant to accept the TV until after they had verified that every screw was present, counting them one by one. I don't know if all Best Buy stores are this meticulous about returns, but it taught me that if I purchase a product from them I need to be confident it will be a "keeper" because it might not pass the stringent scrutiny of their return process.

This has not been my experience. In fact I once returned an item without a key component. Of course when I realized I forgot it I went back to the store. But they didn’t check the headphones. They just accepted them without even opening the box.

I purchased a Sony XR65A90J over the weekend from Best Buy. It was priced at $2200 open box. The new price is $3k. Before I headed to the store, I was already thinking it would be missing parts such as no remote, missing screws etc. But when I arrived, my first scare was that they couldn’t find it and probably already sold. A best buy associate went the extra mile and checked their backroom. Out he comes with still in a box. It was nicely packaged and missing nothing. Every last screw was there. Everything. Including every foam piece. It still had the screen protector over the screen and rubber screen frame protectors.

Thanks for everything B. I got an open-box 77 inch G2 "Satisfactory" for $2400 at Bestbuy. It was in perfect condition. The plastic on the display was still there as if it wasn't peeled off. The G series LG TVs come with 5-year panel warranty, so I knew I would be covered if anything else happened.

I was shopping with a friend that needed a new TV for a spare bedroom. She wanted a 32”. I recommended a TCL Roku 1080 P. We went to Best Buy because they have the best selection. I found an open box and I asked the salesman to look at the TV. He said that it was ordered online and returned. It still had the plastic covering the TV and had the remote with unused batteries and manual. She purchased it for $178. When she tried to pay for it a higher price came up on their screen so the manger gave her an additional discount to $178. We got back to her house and I set it up for her cable and streaming channels and it worked fine. No problems.

Got an open box certified lg c1 65 inch from Best Buy last weekend, for 1520. Sales guy told me certified means it left the store, but the box was never opened. Their guys crack it open to verify everything is there and it was never actually opened, but all the packaging in the box was untouched. Plastic on the screen, styrofoam, wires, remote, everything has never been touched. So I saved 300 bucks, and got a brand new tv, at least in my eyes. Couldn’t be happier

I got an open box 55’ Sony A90J at 15% discount, a week before Black Friday in the U.K. from a very reputable department store called JL. They are never beaten on price. Even on Black Friday, the tv discount didn’t drop to 15%. If it did, the store would pay me the difference. The tv was checked over and all parts included in the blank box. It was rated as an A which technically is open box as new. I’ve been enjoying it and I am very happy with my purchase. I’m the U.K. open box has to include all parts and if they don’t, you’ll get a further discount.

If you need tv feet/ stand look up vesa stand on Amazon. Mounts to the same wholes as a mounting bracket. Just make sure it fits your size tv. You can get ones that are center and square/ rectangle and can be used to sit on smaller tv stands.

TV store owner here, we sale a lot of "refurbished" products, most of the "refurbishing" is just testing. So while you claim they're often sent back and refurbished for defects, that is simply not true. There is nothing to really repair these days, you should know that. A lot of the Best Buy open box TVs you are suggesting are in fact never tested and can yield pretty crappy outcomes, and there is far more grey area in what the particular product has experienced thus far. Not to mention, we stomp their open box "deals" all day man. Other than that, I actually love your suggestion of rtings, we use that a lot for customers to even better understand the real value of their buy.

I was always nervous about purchasing an open box tv. I guess I am going to have to change my thought pattern on this matter. We did purchase a close out tv once at a great price. After the warranty expired, we heard an arching sound, then smoke start coming from the tv, LOL. No close out tv for us. This was about 30 years ago.

Open box TV deals seem to be a lot more compelling in the US. Here in Canada, open box incentives are generally in the same ballpark as sale prices, so there really isn't much point taking any risks for marginal savings. Refurbished units are even more iffy because the warranty coverage is often reduced and returned stock is frequently offloaded to third party resellers to get rid of them. Deals can definitely be found but follow your plan.

In 2010 I wanted a multi-zone AVR and found a Yamaha RXV1800 receiver that was refurbished. New they sold for $1299-$1499. I found a unit online from a store in New York. I am on the west coast. This unit was also a demo that was missing the remote! I took a chance and got it for…….$725 and a remote online for $85 and it is STILL going strong!! Ya gotta do some research because you never know what you may find. By the way, GREAT video!!

Scored an 85 inch 2021 Vizio PQX for $1500 from an open box store. Normally $3000 or more! There ended up being a blotch of dead pixels/dirty screen, so Vizio sent a brand new unit out as a replacement. I don’t know if I will ever buy a brand new TV again after this experience!

Hey Brandon I bought a 1080p Hisense TV back in 2015 before Hisense was really well known. It was a refurbished panel and I haven't had any problems with it. I have it in my bedroom with my OLED that I turn off and then turn on the Hisense when I'm ready to fall asleep. I don't feel it's a good idea to have the OLED on all night while I'm sleeping. PS plus I hooked up a firestick to the Hisense.

Just bought a 65 Sony x95j from best buy that was listed as "Satisfactory". Was skeptical because it was listed for $1250. Went into the store to see it. Found it had all original packaging undamaged and had geek squad certified tape all over it. Decided to take the risk. Got it home, literally pristine condition. Not sure if someone mislabeled it or what. No fingerprints, all original parts and packaging inside including the Sony model sticker on the screen itself. So far pretty happy with it and saved $350 off the new lowest sale price at the time.

Packaged with a few holes in it, but the actual packing materials looked factory packed, and none of the components appeared to have seen daylight.

I always try to snag open box deals and I am not afraid to buy a TV from last season. TV's have almost no resale value so it makes sense to buy it as good as you can They have warranty and the store allows you to buy the extended warranty at a reduced price

Lesson learned from the X900H, always visit a store, try the settings.... not many talked about missing function smooth gradation and color banding compared to the X950H Now when i know what smooth gradation function does, i always try test the TV im intrested of with that function

But it does big difference in settings with low medium or high? If it's in low, you can see color banding. I think SONY does best. In my country and the big chaines stores you are not allowed to touch and play with settings. But there are some smaller stores that can allow it.

I got a Sony 65 inch 900h last fall for $800. It was missing a remote and power cable. Best Buy there the remote and cable in for the $800 price. So far I’m happy with the tv. I mainly watch football and play video games on it. I plan buying a new Sony or LG oled or newer tech tv in the next couple of years to replace it and move the 900h to another room. I got an Open Box Satisfactory Sony HT-Z9F soundbar for $670 (MSRP $900) and the optional rear SA-Z9R's also OBS for $215 (MSRP $300). Not too shabby IYAM. The manual was missing from the soundbar so I printed it from Sony's website. You can definitely save money if you know which BB store has it in stock and/or if you're willing to travel you a different location (within my limits of course). Luckily for me, the BB that I purchased my soundbar and rear satellites was one the way home from work so that was easy peasy.

I recently found a 77” A80J OLED as an “open box” at my local Best Buy. Actually didn’t have a box at all. My experience was the complete opposite of everything you said. They didn’t know any history at all, wouldn’t allow it to be turned on at all (per management). Also they won’t deliver open box items so I’d have to figure that part out. It was listed as “certified excellent” which means it’s in perfect condition. I pointed out a large scratch on the back corner of the unit which they told me should have disqualified it from the certified excellent rating they gave it. They would barely discount it so it was only $200 less than the $3k sale price of a brand new unit. I was also told by one associate that this unit wouldn’t come with a manufacturer warranty, while another said it would be covered by Sony’s warranty. At the end of the day I absolutely bought a brand new one with free delivery.

Bought a 2016 Lg Oled open box for 850. 00 55 inch. It was a wall demo. The box had all the parts. I bought the 2 year warranty at Best But for $124.00. Tv lasted 1 year and a half. Geek squad came out but couldn’t repair panel. They ended up replacing oled with 2020 Nano 55 in Lg. I couldn’t afford to get another oled they were 1600.00 dollars. Best Buy would go up to 850.00. I was happy with the new tv.

Just purchased a 55' Nanocell 90 series for 630$ retailing for 900$, so roughly about 30% off, open box. Also had them bundle a Samsung Q600A sound bar; original price was 600$ and lowered to 290$. TV was originally Excellent Certified, but they couldn't verify if it was a floor model or returned. Ended up listing it as satisfactory to lower the price. Sound bar, unfortunately didn't have the mounting brackets, even though it stated it would. So they also dropped it from Excellent to satisfactory for a better deal. Total pricing was 1,700$ including tax. got everything for 1,016$. SAVINGS of basically $700!!!! Couldn't be happier!

I went into the store saw, inspected the product and it was in working condition. Upon delivery this morning with broken screen ofcos I refused and asked them to take it back hoping it gets replaced. However customer service tells me over the phone that I have to go back into the store and look for another TV open box and pay the difference. They have no open box 83 inch OLED TV anywhere. I just saw your video and you stated I can possibly get a brand new replacement for the price of an open box. Any tips you can give me will be great so I can head back to the store in couple of days and put the screws to it. Thanks

Questions! I have 77 LG OLED, replaced my LCD Samsung. I noticed that old Samsung TV was going offline on the Smartthings app once tv was powered off. It bothered me, couldn't turn it on with Alexa nor with the app. Went online and found out that I am not the only one complaining about it, some said that only few models do this some don't, but it was only about Samsung. That being said, my LG does the same, regardless of if it's via wifi or ethernet port. Can't use voice assistant to turn it on, can't turn it on with the ThinkQ app either. Do all smart TVs go offline once powered off?

Some big authorized sellers selling open box prob from returns they received, but they claim there’s no manufacturers warranty on them since they open box which makes no sense since TVs were just originally sold 2 months ago

This one time my wife received a delivery for a 75 inch Samsung. It was addressed to me, so she calls me asking where it came from and I was shocked because I had no idea I had purchased it. Apparently a few days before I had drank to the point of scrolling online and purchased this TV. Lol I had to return it since it wasn’t even close to the right TV I had wanted to buy. I'm eyeing a 77 or 83 inch LG G2. Both are around $2400. The 65 is $1200. I'm coming from a 55 inch TCL 5 series, so any would be a hell of a difference. Just wondering hot to get the bigger ones home lol.

what if the window is behind the couch (afternoon sun!) and the TV is on the opposite wall? Don't care about gaming but sports, tv shows, movies are a yes. I have 5.1 receiver so speakers on tv not so important right now

I have a Samsung ks8000 and still enjoy it. But after 5 years do I need to upgrade. The Samsung has no problems except a weak wi-fi chip. I’ve by passed that with an Apple tv

LG 48C1, it’s listed as opened box never used and it costs $500 on offer up, the same seller has probably hundreds of tvs listed as opens box but I’m a bit skeptical even though he has 10 “5 star reviews”.

Unrelated, but has anyone been affected by TCL pulling their Google TV units from Best Buy? Lots of great reviews but lots of issues as well. If you're sitting on the fence, now would be a good time to send one packing. This situation could end up becoming a lemon law debacle and definitely won't help the tier 2 QLED manufacturers.

Got the Sony X950H 55 inch for 448$ it was either returned to the store by a customer or a display tv in the store. Amazing tv, no visible DSE, Amazing colours and brightness. Some blooming, but that's almost to be expected. It came without the box tho, but i just couldn't pass it up for that price.

if u put it on a bright screen like google u will see pressure damage or even litle red dots or dead pixels , happend to me with a samsung , and the tv kept going all black for a second sometimes , never get a oled used

I'm on best buy website and I see a 55 inch LG C1 for $700. That's the tv I want but could it possibly be in very poor condition at that price?? They don't give you specifics online but this video helped. I'll probably just go to the store and test it.

About 6-7 years ago, I wanted a 3-D TV. So, I was walking into a Best Buy just looking at my options. On the floor was a 65" Vizio 3D-TV, Open Box. No one knew why it was returned, but there was no box. I took it for the full price, but wanted the extended warranty for free, for 3 years. I got the TV home, and it died the next day, Day Three, Best Buy had a brand new machine, at my house. I sold it, it still had the extended warranty, and 3d-TV were no longer available.
