This is powerful. Wow! I'm tearing up. As someone whose career got derailed big time because of visas, applying for visas all the damn time, this really hit my core. The world needs to see this. A lot of privileged western tennis players are so clueless about the struggles of players from the "third world." Thank you for this. THANK YOU! Courage, lady. So brave.

Dang this gal is her BEST public relations! She'll get a standing ovation whenever tennis resumes. I feel for her and so many other tennis players who are struggling - to keep the dream alive. What the WTA and the ATP are show casing are the usual suspects - completely devoid of the many faces of tennis. Good luck to you and you are very talented. You do not need the Thiems of the world to achieve your dream.

Feel very sorry for her circumstances but she misinterpreted Dominic’s comments & took them out of context. Dominic never said every player at those rankings was unprofessional, he said there are many that he knows of who are. Let’s not be naive, not everyone in professional sports is hard working. Dominic was unfairly singled out & comments taken out of context. Not a surprise because we are in the era where things get taken out of context on a regular basis. Dominic worked very hard & made a lot of sacrifices in his life to be in the privileged position he is. As I said Dominic was unfairly singled out but with his name being used in this video it wouldn’t have got the coverage it has & that is the reality. Also the fans & media who are criticising Dominic should look at what he donates to charity & compare it with their donations to charity before criticising him again. Interesting aspect is that Dominic’s mother is now following her on Instagram.

Bravo, young lady! Bravo to you, and to all the young athletes who do not know when they will eat again, where they will sleep, where and with whom they will train, whether they will actually go to the competition for which they are preparing for days ... Unfortunately, your letter was sent to the address of the emotional cripple, who is just the leader of a few more young emotional cripples, so - don't pay attention to such "people" ... I'm sure, some of the "older" tennis players help you and others because ... some of them started hard just like you. Keep living your dream! Greetings from Serbia.....

Ines Ibbou is the kind of player, Dominic Thiem would definetely support. He just did not agree with the conidtions under which that pot should and would be distributed and his thoughts on this are understandable if you dont missinterpret what he says. In my opinion Ines Ibbou does missunderstand him or at least generalizes and presents a supposed attitude of Thiem towards young players he doesnt have, and this not fair and respectful either, especiall after what Thiem already has done for new generations. Thiem is even the kind of player, who decided to maintain his main residence in his high tax paying country Austria, paying such a lot ammount of taxes in his income and is just by this contributing more than other big stars who flee to places like Monaco just to avoid taxes. And also she makes just a lot of assumptions about Thiems life and his becoming and his way to the top, which isnt fair either. But most importantly his words shouldnt be missinterpreted in such a sensationalist way
@Mrstudmad
@Mrstudmad 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think she misunderstood. she was very curtuous and made a good point to not only Thiems but most of the previliged players to explain that talent alone can only get your some distance. And I believe this reality check is needed.

Dominic might not think about tennis player like her, but she really want to have respect to all players as a top player. It can be a very good chance for him to know such a situation and feelings. I hope for both of them have a good time, and if possible, they're going to talk or communicate each other directly.

She is not the only one in the same situation. There are hundreds of men and women tennis players who are struggling, but I don't agree on asking charity from the top players and comparing that they got everything or not. The players needs a support from ATP, WTA, ITF and local tennis federations. These top players should give charity to those who are really in need for food and shelter.

While Ines is very inspirational and is a great example of someone who worked hard for her dreams, Dominic did not say he won’t donate money, he said he will donate money to whoever he thinks deserves it more. There are a lot of struggles in this world, Dominic is not rich enough to cater for all. He does a lot of charity and good work silently that isn’t mentioned much. He has also had to work *very* hard to get to his level, dare I say he was privileged with sponsors by being a male player too, but that is not his fault.
@freakytea2815
@freakytea2815 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the idea that he wouldn't help players struggling financially *in his own sport* is pretty classless. He came off sounding entitled and ignorant to the fact that not all players have the same advantages that he did, and he had many. I've always liked him and respected his work ethic and the guts he shows regularly in matches, but this was an unfortunate moment for him, and hopefully he comes out a better person for it.
@tonydang8996
@tonydang8996 4 жыл бұрын
freakytea But does he need to help his own sport to have class? Since when was sport more important than poverty or climate change or endangered animals? If he chooses to help other causes with his *limited* funds then that should say enough about him. Think about it, for players to even have the chance to play tennis, that’s more fortunate than some people not even having food to eat. As I said, there are a lot of struggles in the world.
@freakytea2815
@freakytea2815 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonydang8996 It's very hard to respond to your comment, because no matter what charity is mentioned, it's always possible to find someone somewhere who might need it more. Does this mean that the arts should have no contributions? Should I not donate to a local homeless shelter if someone halfway around the world needs it more? Surely you've heard "Think globally, act locally." Given the international nature of tennis, in this case I would classify contributing to the tennis relief fund acting locally. Also, Thiem's response didn't have a charitable tone at all. It was nasty and condescending to lower ranked players, implying that they just don't work hard enough and don't deserve any help. Maybe something was lost in translation, I don't know, but it sounded pretty vile to me.

I find nothing wrong in what Thiem said, his comments were on the ATP tour. Nadal and Roger too had hinted earlier on some players party kind mentality. Yes he came from a privileged background but please don't underestimate the hard work. He broke up with his gf to concentrate on tennis so he too doesn't have a great personal life, again coaches kids in austria. Do you kNow how much slab rate he has to pay to the Austria govt for every win???? 30 to 50% of the prize money. The solution for you is bringing attention to the Algerian govt to promote sport. Victimising yourself for lack of privileges doesn't help in growing the sport.

While her story is touching, I think that the tennis players have the right to decide themselve if they want to donate or not. ATP and WTA has no right over someone earned money. He may have earned a nice amount of money, but he also have bigger expenses: he has a staff which needs to be paid. And also, top 100 is affected by covid19 too. No competition=no money.

@@amark57 yes, I watched. I never said she asked for his money, but ATP did. Did you read? The owner of the money have the right to decide what to do with them. Its not ATP, mine, nor yours right to decide what x, y does with their money. If he is in top 10 it means he worked for that; his rich parents did not buy him that rank. They only provided the means and he did the work. Was he harsh in his response? Yes, he was. But can I judge him because he does not want to contribute? No, I cannot. @Alexandra Keli The top players have no responsibility to look after the lower ranked players at this time; that lies with the ATP. Imagine if you worked for a company with 1000 staff and some more junior employees who happen to work very hard but make very little in comparison to the top executives started to demand that those top executives help them out financially through donations from their pre-2020 bonuses instead of the "company money". If I were a top executive I wouldn't appreciate that, however, if the company takes a decision to cut planned 2020 bonuses by 20% in order to afford to help out the lower ranked employees... that is a subtle difference but entirely different proposition.

I am lebanese and I know what you have gone throught so keep achieving your dreams and do never waste your time by justifying your personal struggles for someone like Dominic who is with no soul at all. Aaah come on, its not his fault hes absolutely right! There are so many players (especially at future or challenger level) who are fixing matches and shit and he knows that , thats why he doesnt want to give them money, totally understandable. Sure its sad that some player from very poor countries dont have the money to get through this hard times but is this really thiems fault??? No its not , the price money at the biggest tournament are just waaay too high and the lower level tournaments price money is waaay to small so ots defenitly a mistake from the wta and atp. I guess the only thing he did wrong here was to speak about it anyways. He just should have said nothing about it.

@@vincentvervaecke3878 Precisely. The sympathetic opinions of people ultimately get more exposure and take precedence in these comments over those expressing the reality as you are Vincent.
