I am a computer engineer by trade and I have just recently got a burned out model of this machine and have bought one as well. At first I was nervous about opening an All In One Computer, but after watching this video, I could just kick myself in the pants at how simple it is to get into and repair. My forte are towers and servers. Now I have two HP Pavilion 23(s), purring happily like kittens... One hopped up for gaming and the other for private use. Thanks for showing me how to get into these things. Thumbs up!

OPEN ME UP Have you considered giving "the finger " to so called "professionals that want to keep the little guy down and strike out on your own as an independent shade-tree Technician? In this world of third-party Warranty Contracts where they actually steal your new setups and gives you another computer with the same problems that you have solved. I am not sure if it is mentioned in the video, but before you take it apart and replace hard drives for example, check with the HP website on the maximum hard drive that you can have. I have an HP Compaq Elite 8300 all in one PC, I was going to put a 4 tb drive in, but the maximum you can put in is 2 tb, and for an SSD it is 300 gig. The 8300 is a lot easier to take apart, you do not have to undo any screws to get the back open, just unlatch and slide up. I fitted a SSD today as the hard drive already installed 500 gig made an i5 processor crawl as if it was 20 years of age, the SSD has sped it up majorly even with just 4 gigs of ram.
@OpenMeUpTec
@OpenMeUpTec 6 жыл бұрын
seems like you got the wrong idea. this is a PC not a MAC. if it fits in the slot it should work. therefore you can any hard drive size you want on the computer as long it fits. you need to remember the HP website is old when they post the information on the site they can only post what exist then which was 2TB and 300GB SSD. therefore the site is out dated and could not have told you about 4TB hard drive since it did not exist

Good clear video without all the extras. I'd love to know if there was a 3rd Sata input on the motherboard. I could install 2 x 2.5" drives that way. One being an SSD. That way I can keep the optical drive and not have to swap it out for a second drive caddy. I am headed on a 120km trip to pick a 4th gen i5 one up tomorrow for $75.00 Woo Hoo! I have a Kingston 240Gb SSD and 16Gb ram waiting for it. If there is a 3rd port and no power take off, I can modify the existing one and solder on another pigtail. I guess I'll find out later tomorrow night. lol

To use it just as a monitor as it is without doing anything is not going to work, as you need basically everything inside of for the screen to turn on. the screen is like any other screen you just with this one the LCD panel cable is attach to the motherboard, if you can find other LCD panel cables out there to change it over for your purpose then you can make it work. I tried looking for other LCD panel cable but have not been able to find out as someone else ask me a similar question. the screen requires power which is provided by the motherboard, the motherboard doesn't work and display anything if it is missing the main components like ram and cpu. in the end you can only really sell you dvd drive and hard drive which are worth less that's if you get it to work.

The star-shaped screws are Torx screws (size T6, T8, or T10 most likely). It is important to use the appropriate tools (Precision Torx drivers) or you risk stripping the screws and causing yourself a major headache. Also, you should learn about Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and protect your expensive computer parts by taking precautions. Link: www.techopedia.com/definition/25751/electrostatic-discharge-esd

Before I say anything, I'd first like to thank you for your time and for the video! I know parts can be upgraded and/or swapped out, but is the power supply unit one of those things? I have a hp pavilion 23-h052 that needed power cord. I bought one, but the computer wouldn't come on (for the first time ever). It never had any errors or issues before, never had a problem powering on, nothing. I though it might be the cord I bought, but when it's plugged in, it shows a tiny white light on right above the power cord port on the PC and I can see the fan on the psu trying to move. I already tried using the jumper to reset the bios, but it still didn't come on. Any suggestions? I'm guessing the psu, but who knows. Ugh! Annoying!

Thanks, very helpful video for those of us unfamiliar with All-In-One computers. Perhaps you can advise me...my machine uses an I3 processor and has 6 gigs of ram. I've recently been working with Sketchup 3d drawing software and have noticed a significant slowdown of the machine depending on the number of objects in my 3d drawing. Do you think doubling the ram would noticeably speed up my computer or is the processor itself the main problem?
@OpenMeUpTec
@OpenMeUpTec 8 жыл бұрын
+Dave Lukasek there 4 things. Having a better CPU will make a difference depending, but for your case I believe so. Ram only if you don't have enough, check task manage and see if you using more ram that you have if you are then increasing ram will increase speed. Hard drive speed if you work is large in size as it need to get you work and save it. Graphic card also matter as moving/more objects use graphic power

I don't think there has ever been an All in one PC with an upgradable video card....well ever. I'm sure there are a few rare ones out there, but that absolutely is not common, not even remotely close to being common. However, the CPU IS SOLDERED on some 23 series systems. At least the 23-H024 has a soldered CPU.

+Jay “Th3_R3d_Rang3r” Rey simple answer is yes there is a improvement but then just by changing your hard drive to an SSD you will see a greater performance than doing anything else and also it is the cheaper option compare to changing the CPU and RAM which will end up giving you a small performance increase and cost alot more.

Ok took me a while to see what you meant by SSD (solid state drive).so pretty much I have a SATA Drive, I also see RPM will a better hd have higher rpms? i see you posted 3.5 for hd so im guessing size will any ssd 3.5mm work? do i have to preinstall anything as in programs or windows system and is there a book out there or a website with all your knowledge b/c I feel like a 7yr old asking you thousands of questions lol

There isn't a 3.5 inch SSD you can leave it hanging inside or get an adaptor for it but I just leave mines hanging but sticky tape is good enough if you dont want it to move around. You will need to install windows and copy everything over as you are replacing your old hard drive. Most companies will give you a free copy of a cloning software to make it easier for you

NOT ALL SERIES 23 have upgradable/replaceable CPUs. Just a heads up. The 23-h024 I know at least has a soldered on CPU and a MB that's a bit different. I haven't checked any others, that just happens to be the one I have right now that I'm working on for a customer. support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-23-h000-touchsmart-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/6528330/model/6529793/document/c04074282

So true, I have a 23-h056 and it's pretty disappointing they would develop machines that are not CPU upgradable. This model has everything going for it, a reliable all in one machine, decent monitor display 1920x1080, can expand to 16 GB of ram, can take SSD. But with Windows 8 set to be unsupported on Jan 2023, I have to decide if it's really worth keeping and switching to Windows 10. By tying it down to only a AMD A6-5200 APU CPU, it's a planned obsolescence for this model's future.

Porowini Hau yes it is better but doesn't mean that it will change anything as it depends on what you do and want. example a Yaris and Lamborghini both traveling at 60km/h there is no difference even though the Lamborghini is faster and more powerful because the road only allows 60km/h

you cant change the graphic card as that's the best one you can get and it is normal for it to be jumpy you need to pay at the lowest setting possible then it will probably still be jumpy.

the power supply for this is external. other computers and laptops also use the same power supply like dell. so instead of buying one just borrow one to test

Thanks for reply, the external P/S measures 19.7V so it is good, still no power, nothing turns on...Looks like logic board is fried..cost is $175, but can pickup similar system for $399...so I will advise friend to purchase new system. What makes this bad is I set him up with Acronis image but his external drive was full and last image six months ago. Lightning fried motherboard and blew the partition table of his HDD, must recover in RAW format. Well, so it goes, will be a long weekend of recovering his system...

Hey hun...Could you possibly help me with something ?? I have the HP Pavilion 20 AIO, Model #20-bo13w... It's about 5 years old and has been a great computer... No issues at all until about a month ago when suddenly the screen flicker once, and it went a little dim and now in the upper right corner it has a gray spot/area... I'm thinking it is the backlighting... It's not gone totally dark but it's dimmer than I'd like so I set up another monitor and fixed my laptop as a backup to see inside the computer in case the screen totally went out I could still access inside my computer, (Backups 1&2) until I figure out what I plan on doing about it... Anyway, Is there any way to fix the backlighting on an AIO... The hard drive is good, besides this issue, the computer still works fine... I've worked on computers before but never an AIO so I'm not to secure about working on one... I have to much stuff on this hard drive to risk screwing it up... I can send you a pic of the screen if you'd like...Thank you :)
@OpenMeUpTec
@OpenMeUpTec 6 жыл бұрын
you can just take out the hard drive and use it on something else to retrieve the data. yes from what you are saying the back light is dead. the issue is it is hard to obtain a 20inch screen.

Wow, I didn't realize that...Thinking now that I could find a used HP Pavilion 20 AIO and just insert my hard drive into it...Possible?? yes?? Now that I wouldn't have to actually worry about screwing up my main computer, (Going to buy another one and use my AIO as my spare/artwork one) how difficult would it be to insert my hard drive into another HP Pavilion 20 AIO ?? I would backup all my important things from the drive prior to doing this...

Where are you getting the "bad computer" ideas? I LOVE my Pavillion 23. I am admittedly, not a gamer, so that could be the issue. My pc has done everything I have asked it to do, flawlessly,and with clear bright grapbics. The hdd died last month ( I suspect the pc fell off of a table or something when I was keeping it in storage at a freind's house),and I opted to replace it rather than get a new pc.
