Met Sticks at a Carlton function this year in Adelaide with David Rhys-Jones and Greg Williams, bought him (sticks) a froffie and he reciprocated. Also had a beer with Rhys-Jones after the function. David was quite nice, but sticks stole the show. Absolute gentleman and legend who shouted the whole bar all night. Everytime he went up to the bar and put a pinapple on the bar and asked who was thirsty. Genuine good bloke.

Footy nut here who as a Pies’ supporter loved watching the great blues; bombers, north , tigers, lions and hawks sides since my birth in 1964. Stephen Kernahan and his fellow Sandgropers, Bradley and motley, were guns! I do not know him personally, however, publicly, he has always struck me as s VERY humble and intellectual gentleman, who, was a genuine GUN AFL Player.

Many South Australians played a long time and valued their home rather than rushing over for a $ in Victoria. It's a credit to their love of their home and football culture.

So ignorant Sheehan of the sanfl. I grew up with the sanfl we loved our competition. It might be hard for Victorians to understand but we had our own high quality footy, we took an interest in the vfl but the sanfl was our main focus. Nothing to be amazed that Kerna's played over 100 games in the sanfl before crossing over the border. Peter Motley was a state of origin player by the age of 19. He was the best player in the sanfl in 1985 and should have won the magarey medal that year but came second by one vote. 1986 he was hampered by a fractured ankle which interrupted his pre season. His best position was a high marking half forward follower. After playing at half back in the state game vs Vic in 85 where he soundly beat Gary Ablett Snr he was played in that position as well but for Sturt he was a forward midfielder. Moving into the midfield in 87 for Carlton he would have been a superstar for Carlton

Gary Albert didn't play vfl in 1983 maybe it was 84
@frankmachin54383 жыл бұрын
I think you missed his point. It’s just that he played 250 games over 11 years in the VFL at CHF which was a very tough position to play in terms of the toll it can take on your body. Mike’s point I think was that he also played 130 odd games at Glenelg means he played getting on towards 400 games at the highest level - extraordinary longevity for a big man in a tough game in a tough position.

Ablett didn’t play in the 84 game against SA so that’s not correct. He did however play against WA that year and kicked 8 goals
@Mike-gn4un Жыл бұрын
@@gfrgtrYes Motlely was playing against Ablett in 84 not 83 ( my mistake) and was outstanding. Motley was one of SA’s best as well in the state of origin win against Victoria in 83 as well

@Mike-gn4un My point was that Ablett didn't play in the SA vs VIC game. Only the WA vs VIC game

132 games in the SANFL Michael at that time was a great achievement. Before Victoria appointed itself the head of Aussie Rules, the SANFL and WAFL were damn fine football leagues. Sure.....$$$$ decimated them to "feeder comps", but we who are old enough to remember (and aren't from Victoria) know what the score is ! Sticks......a GLENELG legend !
